Judged: 1 1 1 I think ridicule is fine, and apparently, I'm in good company: “Ridicule is the only weapon which can be used against unintelligible propositions. Ideas must be distinct before reason can act upon them; and no man ever had a distinct idea of the trinity. It is the mere Abracadabra of the mountebanks calling themselves the priests of Jesus." - Thomas Jefferson How do you feel about marginalization through demonization and dehumanization? Here are a few ancient examples still widely read and taught today: [1] "The fool says in his heart,'There is no God.' They are corrupt, their deeds are vile; there is no one who does good" - Psalm 14:1 [2] "But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone." - Revelation 21:8 That's pretty ugly there - hate speech, even. You say that you're an agnostic, do you? Well, you and I were just called corrupt, vile, abominable, no good, the moral equivalent of a liar, murderer and whoremonger, and fit for eternal torture according to a perfectly just and loving god. The way I see it, you and I are entitled to a few friendly jabs back, wouldn't you agree? Thanks for your concern. |

Judged: 1 1 1 Yes the open minded ones, but the majority are not here to learn or challenge their views. For example; most religious freaks are only here to point their finger at you and tell you that you're going to "go to hell". Fear and guilt was used on them, and they think it will work on you too. Common sense and logic to them is as invisible as the wind is to other people. In the end people just end up becoming polarized and frustrated. |

Judged: 1 1 1 funny how most anti-abortionists are the very same people who cry foul when the subject of gun control is brought up. now please don't say the same is true of the pro-choice crowd crying foul when laws restricting abortion are brought up. there is a difference, gun ownership has direct effects on the lives of others, just ask those 20 babies in Newtown Cn....or their families. When an the use of an object impacts not just the user, but others the gov't can and should put restrictions on them. Cars are a perfect example. an abortion affects no one else but the woman undergoing the procedure. as for the rich being taxed at a higher rate, I'm not for that. I just want them taxed at the same rate I am....about 23%. But right now they for the vast majority (99%) are taxed at 15% or lower. |

Judged: 2 2 1 The fact that you couldn't present ANY facts to this debate says an awful lot about you nanoanomaly. I'll take what you call a fantasy world because it's the same world that brought you penicillin. It's called medical fact. Not that it will help a narrow minded person like yourself. See, I told you that I'd prove in public that you are a fool. Next time don't come to a debate without having facts to back up your illusions. LOL. |

Judged: 1 Yes. But we also learn from one another, share common views and, at least for me, gain some encouragement that things are improving. The godbots, well, ain't nothing we can do about them. Let them spew the venom and threaten eternal damnation. I ain't askeered. |

[1] Merry Christmas: "An Orange, County Florida cop disguised himself as an elf to issue between $10,000 and $50,000 in speeding tickets in less than three hours." http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/14/1486.asp [great photo] [2] You've heard of Robocop, right? Meet Hobocop: "Police in Ocala, Florida have brought back the practice of dressing up like the homeless in order to generate significant traffic ticket revenue." http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/13/1315.asp [3] I only included this one because of the photo of the Amish at Wal-Mart: "Ohio law allows small towns to establish mayor's courts instead of using county courthouses. The practice is meant to allow the towns to keep the significant revenue generated from motorists. The practice, however, has come under fire because it encourages speed traps. One of the most vocal critics is the Ohio Supreme Court's chief justice. "The Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals recognized the inherent conflict in a system that permits the person responsible for the fiscal well being of a community to use judicial powers to produce income that supports the well being" http://www.thenewspaper.com/news/14/1492.asp [4] And don't think that these speed traps can't be lucrative: "For the third year in a row, cops in Pendergrass, Georgia earned the state's speed trap record by collecting $1012 in cash for each of the city's 479 residents. The $485,011 prize came from seizures, fees, and speeding tickets in 2005. Motorists passing through on their way between Athens and Gainesville provided the lion's share of the money." |
Here is to new beginnings. |

I wondered about the firing of guns into the air, because we always see the people in those war torn Muslim areas doing that, and knowing that what goes up must come down, and even though a bullet coming down is a pretty light object, it is still traveling at over 100 mph freefall or if on a trajectory could even be at almost the velocity it left the gun. I discovered online that it is frequent that people do get hit and often killed by those kinds of displays. I really wonder at someone firing a burst from a machine gun into the air in a crowd of thousands of people. I think there might have been occasions at charivaris (shivarees or chivarees) that I went on when I was young, that someone fired a shotgun, however we were in a very remote rural area and the odds of the pellets from a shot gun coming down on someone would have been next to nil, and since hunters often fired at birds in flight, that would be an ongoing risk anyway. My brother-in-law did get hit in the face by some stray pellets that someone fired towards the water somewhere opposite him, and a pellet or two ricocheted off the water and struck him in the face. I think it lodged under the skin on his forehead. Fortunately it didn't hit him in the eye. |
