because you have never sat down and had a chair to fold or break thus dropping you to the floor, doesn't mean it can't or won't ever happen.
you DO have faith or trust that chair will hold you. thats what faith is believing something without seeing or knowing the outcome.
trusting something will produce what you hope it will.
Medicine is not a garentee.
side effects
reactions
insufficent results.
but we HOPE and TRUST it will do the job, thats faith.
you place your faith that it will do what you need it to.
and when it does, your faith was well placed.
same with God.
Patty, your examples are nonsense. Yes, you don't know that a chair or a car or anything else that we can experience can be guaranteed to always do what we have 'faith' that it will. But we do know that these things exist, and we do know from experience that on average they tend to function safely. With God we have no knowledge of existence, and we have no knowledge of any effects of putting faith in that God. So you are on two entirely unrelated subjects.

If you want to draw parallels or use metaphors at least use those that are in the same ball park. You might compare faith in God to faith in unicorns, or the man in the moon, for example.

Comparing something that we can see and feel with our own senses is not the same a something that we don't even have a clue of its existence, and absolutely no evidence of it ever having existed.

The zygote is biologically alive. It fulfills the four criteria needed to establish biological life:
1. metabolism
2. growth
3. reaction to stimuli
4. reproduction
There is more that that. Here's a better list:

[1] active movement (may be subcellular only)
[2] obtain nutrients
[3] metabolize / channel and store energy / generate heat
[4] eliminate waste
[5] complex organization
[6] cellular
[7] organic
[8] growth / development
[9] reproduction / replication
[10] homeostasis / repair
[11] sensitive / responsive
[12] adapt / evolve
[13] similar composition (proteins, ATP, DNA, etc.)

Not self sustaining?

So you think once a baby shoots outta the vagina it's self sustaining?

You still live with your mommy, you aren't self sustaining either.

<quoted text>Not to mention all the "benefits" of pregnancy....swollen ankles, hemorrhoids, not being able to get up out of a chair, unwanted weight gain, and SO much more that is not at all fun or pleasant about pregnancy.
But though I sympathize and empathize, and think it is a rotten deal that women have to experience those things, until very recently, now that we can produce human life outside a woman's body, it was the only way of keeping humanity alive, so you and I could be here arguing with these brain dead people, so I don't think that one can completely paint pregnancy as a negative thing. About all that we can do or could do is to find means to make a pregnancy less difficult for a woman.

We men cannot be held accountable for not having to go through those experiences because we just physically have not had any way of doing it. I think now with hormones, and a Caesarean birth, a man can carry a child in his abdominal cavity, and mature it to birth state, at which time it has to be cut out of him.

http://www.gentlebirth.org/archives/malepreg....

There was a show back a decade or two ago on tv where some friendly aliens had come to earth, and in their situations a female carried the child for part of the pregnancy and then it was transferred by some means to the man, so that both got to experience a pregnancy. If I remember correctly it was rather a moving episode.

<quoted text>It can be argued that it is my opinion that life begins at birth; most anti-choicers are of the opinion that life begins at conception.
But LEGALLY, all rights afforded to a PERSON begin at BIRTH.

Nothing to do with pro anything a life begins at conception.
Life is legally defined an entity at 12 weeks.
Life is born around 9 months +- 1 month.
But it does exist before it is defined as such.
None of this matters that much to me.
