People like you have been trying to deconstruct the church for 2,000 years.
The Romans couldn't do it. What makes you think lil ol' you has a chance? The 5 people on Topix that peruse your bullshit won't make any change...
We're already making a change.

One thing this election demonstrated is that the American people are getting sick and tired of religious BS and anti scientism.

You are becoming the lunatic fringe at an accelerating pace.

ooouuuch! who's doing the judging and condemning here, pal?!
"there is One Good; that is God" Jesus
when you can judge with God's perfect righteousness, maybe we'll nominate you as the one who establishes what goodness is! until then, you're only a man and subject to the same egotistical temptations as the hitler-himler dynamic duo;)
The Abrahamic god, from whom your jesus supposedly sprung, makes your hitler-himmler duo seem like choirboys by comparison.

I guess your Jesus got sick of his dad's tantrums, eh?

Understandable...yet, if I was a Christian born in Mecca and Mecca was founded under Allah, I would have to accept that the lovely nation of Mecca was born of Allah and accept it or move. The U.S. was/is one nation, under God. God was the deity that the founders of the U.S. built this nation upon. And because that "name" offends people, does that justify throwing out the history of the U.S. and it's principles? I've noticed that since we've "banned" using the name God and dismissing Him in our country, this country has gotten worse and worse. Yet, during 9/11, all of the sudden it was ok to say His name and pray to Him. I really don't think the God of my understanding wants to be a God of convenience. People should be free to worship whoever or whatever they want but I don't agree that God shouldn't be recognized as the true "leader" of our nation. The minority doesn't seem to mind at all when they're getting money handed to them on pay day which has "In God We Trust" on it.
I said that the mecca thing was an extreme example - you wouldn't have a snowball's chance to stop the pilgrimage. I was just illustrating a point - some people feel as though they are being surrounded by a tradition they don't follow, and they either have to go along with it or risk being ostracized. Again, I don't really care and actually enjoy christmas, but I sympathize with the people who would like the holiday season to be more inclusive.

Also, the US was not founded on christian principles. The founders made several very clear statements to this effect - and they codified their belief in the separation of church and state in the constitution.

I very seriously doubt that the "banning" of using the name of god has anything to do with the condition of the country. The 9/11 thing is an interesting example of how people respond to disasters - patriotism, jingoism, and very direct displays of religious sentiment were very common. It was an attempt to affirm our "national identity" in the face of a threat. That's why it became "ok" to "talk about god" so openly.

The media plays a HUGE part in it. My Aunt (very religious) gave a lot of money to a tv evangelist years ago (I think it was Baker?) and it turned out he was a fake. I never heard of Pat Robertson (think that's a good thing). Doesn't he know that it states clearly in the Bible that he's "promoting" that it says "Judge lest you be judged"? tsk tsk....There sure are a lot of nut jobs out there.
How in the world have you not heard of pat robertson? He's a famous nutbag. He was the one who blamed the haiti disaster on voodoo and said that they deserved it.

Yep. And the thing is, that's probably the least effective strategy you could use if you're trying to convert someone to your way of thinking. People entrench their beliefs if someone threatens them.

His popularity sharply declined after that. I'm not surprised that he's falling out of public awareness.
