Figured as much. So...same ole same ole...or is there a new and exciting debate going on? Just seen the yellow dog war is still hot and heavy apparently. Noticed a few new names...I suppose I'll have to see if I can figure them out. It's getting to cold to be outside and I gotta find something to occupy my evenings. No better pastime than arguing with the schizos!:)
Hope you still got my back!
Same crazy stuff and same crazy posters. Even though some continue to change their names.

That's so funny! I thought of posting that very thing myself.

I have run into a family of backwoodsers/fence-jumpers who were not all that different than the ones in that movie. I found out later that they had a lot in common with that weird family in one of the X-Files episodes...inbreeding...lotsa inbreeding. Every kid that was close to my age was clearly fkd up. It was a tragedy.

If you look here, at this graph, you can see the rising line, heading toward the mountain of what could have been a good joke. Here, at this cliff, we'll call this "valley A," is where my joke failed. It did not recover, despite attempts.

Hey there Mac! Been a while..hope all is well!
I'm with you..Love poetry!
Appended as self-explanatory:

'In Xanadu did Kublai Khan
A stately Pleasure-Dome decree,
Where Alph, the sacred river ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea.

So twice five miles of fertile ground
With walls and towers was girdled ’round,
And there were gardens bright with sinuous rills,
Where blossomed many an incense-bearing tree;
And here were forests ancient as the hills,
Enfolding sunny spots of greenery.

But, oh! That deep, romantic chasm which slanted
Down the green hill, athwart a cedarn cover:
A savage place! As holy and enchanted
As e’er beneath the waning moon was haunted
By woman wailing for her Demon Lover!
And from this chasm with ceaseless turmoil seething,
As if this Earth in fast, thick pants were breathing,
A mighty fountain momently was forced,
Amid whose swift, half-intermitted burst
Huge fragments vaulted like rebounding hail,
Or chaffy grain beneath the thresher’s flail;
And ‘midst these dancing rocks at once and ever,
It flung up momently the sacred river!
Five miles meandering with ever a mazy motion,
Through wood and dale the sacred river ran,
Then reached the caverns measureless to man,
And sank in tumult to a lifeless ocean.
And ‘mid this tumult, Kublai heard from far
Ancestral voices prophesying war!

The shadow of the Dome of Pleasure
Floated midway on the waves,
Where was heard the mingled measure
From the fountain and the caves.
It was a miracle of rare device:
A sunny Pleasure-Dome with caves of ice!

A damsel with a dulcimer
In a vision once I saw:
It was an Abyssinian maid,
And on her dulcimer she played,
Singing of Mount Abora.
Could I revive within me
Her symphony and song,
To such deep delight ‘twould win me
That with music loud and long,
I would build that dome within the air!
That sunny dome, those caves of ice,
And all who heard should see them there,
And all should cry:“Beware! Beware!
His flashing eyes, his floating hair!
Weave a circle ’round him thrice,
And close your eyes in holy dread:
For he on honeydew hath fed,
And drunk the milk of Paradise!”'- Coleridge.

A favourite from when it was a lot newer than it is now.

Can you be specific? What prejudism has a church caused you?
Here's where that file of old posts that Sheila objects to my recycling comes in handy. I'll just refer you a few rather than reinventing the wheel.

It's not just prejudice against me that I am objecting to. This post was on Christian atheophobia, although not about offenses directed specifically at me. Those are far fewer now that I've expatriated:

This post discusses how the exclusion I felt by having to recite a Pledge that was also prayer created a wedge between me and America. Does that count?:

[2] http://www.topix.com/forum/religion/atheism/T...

I recently posted about one such offense in 1998, when I was considering joining a large clinic in Southeastern Missouri, where we relocated for the opportunity, and had to deal with being branded a "god hater" almost from day one. Not surprisingly, it didn't work out. Does that count?

What is so "dangerous" about said church?
You already asked me this once at http://www.topix.com/forum/religion/atheism/T... , and I gave you an extensive answer then. I'm not surprised to see the question again. The answer is VERY long, but I can shorten it to a few representative links.

Here are the list of complaints about the offenses of religion from a great speaker, Greta Christina that I gave you the first time you asked. There were fifty, thirty-something of which appear below :

[6] http://www.topix.com/forum/religion/atheism/T...
[7] http://www.topix.com/forum/religion/atheism/T...

These three are about just the damage done by the church in its promotion of scientific incompetence and distrust:

These are good summaries, too:

Oh wow...I can only imagine how the presidential debates went on here. Between ethics, religion, race, and economics this election has had everyone in a tizzy.

Lol...I had a college professor who I believe feels the same way! Personally, I'm a Keats fan. One of my favorites...

When by my solitary hearth I sit,
And hateful thoughts enwrap my soul in gloom;
When no fair dreams before my "mind's eye" flit,
And the bare heath of life presents no bloom;
Sweet Hope, ethereal balm upon me shed,
And wave thy silver pinions o'er my head!

Whene'er I wander, at the fall of night,
Where woven boughs shut out the moon's bright ray,
Should sad Despondency my musings fright,
And frown, to drive fair Cheerfulness away,
Peep with the moonbeams through the leafy roof,
And keep that fiend Despondence far aloof!

Should Disappointment, parent of Despair,
Strive for her son to seize my careless heart;
When, like a cloud, he sits upon the air,
Preparing on his spell-bound prey to dart:
Chase him away, sweet Hope, with visage bright,
And fright him as the morning frightens night!

Whene'er the fate of those I hold most dear
Tells to my fearful breast a tale of sorrow,
O bright-eyed Hope, my morbidfancy cheer;
Let me awhile thy sweetest comforts borrow:
Thy heaven-born radiance around me shed,
And wave thy silver pinions o'er my head!

Should e'er unhappy love my bosom pain,
From cruel parents, or relentless fair;
O let me think it is not quite in vain
To sigh out sonnets to the midnight air!
Sweet Hope, ethereal balm upon me shed,
And wave thy silver pinions o'er my head!

In the long vista of the years to roll,
Let me not see our country's honour fade:
O let me see our land retain her soul,
Her pride, her freedom; and not freedom's shade.
From thy bright eyes unusual brightness shed—-
Beneath thy pinions canopy my head!

Let me not see the patriot's high bequest,
Great Liberty! how great in plain attire!
With the base purple of a court oppress'd,
Bowing her head, and ready to expire:
But let me see thee stoop from heaven on wings
That fill the skies with silver glitterings!

And as, in sparkling majesty, a star
Gilds the bright summit of some gloomy cloud;
Brightening the half veil'd face of heaven afar:
So, when dark thoughts my boding spirit shroud,
Sweet Hope, celestial influence round me shed,
Waving thy silver pinions o'er my head!

To Hope
John Keats
