Kaitlin gives it right back too, and she is a peaceful Buddhist. Many atheists here are just as mean and vulgar as the Christians....so what is their higher responsibility?
I think I have been fortunate enough to avoid lashing out in an overly crude manner, but I've still had people say very crude and offensive things about the God I believe in, or me...without batting an eyelash about how it offended me.
'

Yes, she does.(She's actually a witch who is familiar with Buddhism from what I gather).

And yes, some of them make offensive remarks as well,(I take it you've "met" Pomona Atheist?) I never said none of us did... but the difference is that if you go back and ask any of them, they will *Take Responsibility* for their words and say, "Yes, those were MY words and my opinion!" whereas the likes of YD will say, "It's not ME who's saying that, it's the Bible!" - the responsibility for her words is handed over to "god".

Atheists don't have an atheists handbook to blame...
See?

In other words, it's really, really easy to be a christian; requires no real personal responsibility or self-discipline. This is why christianity attracts so many people like yellodog, porter, itsme75, Hateful Harold Peterson, Fred Phelps...
I am *so* glad I wasn't born into a christian family.
<quoted text>
Who says atheists do whatever they want? You do, with no evidence to support this fallacious claim.
Oh, and by the way; "God" never made any sacrifices. None. That's just mythology.
<quoted text>
Ooh, now you now are trying to imitate me--which, by the way, is a high compliment. Thanks. You know I'm right, yet you just can't bring yourself to say it. Can anyone say, "Fear of eternal punishment?"
I provided examples of how christianity attracts malicious people just on this thread alone; yet you provide none to back up your claim. Atheists are far more likely to behave ethically than christians are to behave morally, because atheists take responsibility for their own actions, while christians--*without exception!*--claim divine forgiveness.
"Ethics is the measurement of the public good. Morality is the weapon of religious and social righteousness." ~John Ralston Saul~

How do atheists take responsibility for their own actions?
What are you, kidding me?

When's the last time you ever heard an atheist say, "The devil made me do it!" or "It's God's will!" or "I'm not perfect, just forgiven!"

I'll bet *you've* used these before, haven't you?

Bob, doesn't it seem to make sense that 'evil' is just a word which we use to describe certain types of behavior? We know that not all cultures, nations, or religions have the same definition of what is evil, so for evil to be an entity itself, which would indicate that it would be consistent in description, seems rather unlikely.
Human beings occupy their time and their lives with many various activities and actions. Some of these most people consider good and others bad. Which we tend to concentrate on most seems to depend on what we were taught when young and how we were treated by other people, and how we adapted to that. This can be distorted somewhat if we have some physical or mental impairment.
Evil is live backwards.

Evil is something within the individual or group that weakens it. Demands without contributions. Screams for individual attention that divert from the mission, which is survival.

Me, I think about it once in a while for a few minutes. Then I forget what I was thinking about.:-) I let it cook on the back burner. Maybe it will help when it comes time to cross that bridge again. Staying loose and flexible.
'

Yup. I've always tried to go by the old notion that in order to find real Truth we first take everything we think we know and throw it out the window. Not an easy task. What "beliefs" I do hold are held very gently, never firmly. Whenever I find myself starting to think I have found any truth, then it is time to chuck it all out the window again and start fresh.

Peace

You totally discredit yourself by that claim. Man has discovered bodies, skeletons, even villages that are older than 6000 years old. Why would you expose yourself deliberately to ridicule by making a claim that even most Christians would deny?
Just immaturity and a need to validate his own worthless, uninformed opinion by trying to impose it on others.

"I think about it once in a while for a few minutes."

Does this mean your magnetism theories are not what you consider to be in the realm of "life, the universe and everything"? Or do you really spend that little time even on that?
(I had assumed it likely occupied a lot of your time)

Since both are the opposite sides of the same coin, technically you do both, at the same time.

Gets back to that relative morality thing doesn't it? Sacrificing a baby is only one step away from sacrificing animals.
They were *Pleasing* their deity just like the Jews thought they were by killing innocent doves and lambs.
Personally, I think "God" would find it repugnant no matter what was being sacrificed in his name...
But I digress... we all believe that sex with a young child is wrong.... VERY wrong, right?
But imagine a society of similar beings who live over in yonder valley who are like us but with several key differences. One is that their females are only fertile between the ages of 4 and 6.
Absolute morality seems nice on the face of it but if you start to imagine various factors being different, it begins to fall apart.

When animals were sacrificed, their remains were cooked and eaten. I don't know what was planned for Isaac.

Ok then. Hitler was just as good as you.
Hitler , and every single person that supported him , were in fact evil, with their genocide subversion ,and absolute authority.
Consider the fact if Hitler was not evil , then "evil" has no meaning as a word. Fascism and crimes against humanity such as genocide and human sacrifice are the very defining points of evil.

<quoted text>No, of course not. Hitler was twisted, sick, perverted, sadistic, paranoid etc. His ideas were harmful to individuals and groups of people. His practices were reprehensible, immoral, and wrong. Evil? No. For me to endorse "evil", I would have to believe that there is a thing that sits in judgment of all actions, deeming them good or evil. There is no god. There is no evil. There are assholez who hurt people. There are benevolent Samaritans who assist people.
There is something that sits in judgment of all things, MEN, and they defined the acts
of men like Hitler Evil. Vlad the impaler , was defined as evil for his crimes against humanity. Countess Bathory , I could go on alot more , but these type people are the models men have used to define what true evil is.

Daily Horoscope for May 22

Taurus

The sad fact is that a certain person isn't making much sense right now. They seem to be talking nonsense, or maybe they've got the wrong end of the stick but are hanging on to it for grim death and refuse to let you correct them. Mind you, there's also the possibility that you're the one who has got themselves in a muddle but doesn't realize it. Scary!
