Then why do you start.
As I belong to a minority group (which one is neither important nor the issue) and was not English speaking as a youth, I could easily envision your hateful comments being directed towards me and members of other minority groups. There is much blame on all sides.(I was going to say both sides but the problem is multi-facited.)
There as miscreants in all groups and all members of all groups have contributed to America. When you generalize by saying blacks, or wops, or kikes, or chinks, or Rednecks, or Christians you say more about yourself than about members of these groups.
I'm sure there are many good people in every one of these demographics.
Apparently you did not read what I wrote futher on...
Again, this is NOT how I truly feel. I brought it out in the open, because sadly to say, a lot of people do feel that way. Is there something that is a missed in what I say or feel? Your just trying to read in between the lines and it is just not there...
The following you commented on...As I belong to a minority group (which one is neither important nor the issue)

It is an issue and it is important to you and everyone else....

Honey, I was born in Mississippi and lived in the south until I was 40. I have seen how minorities are treated in this culture and the special "channels, months, and celebrations" are indeed needed. The only reason they would be divisive is that some European Americans would prefer that people of color remain invisible. I am as lily white as they come, yet I am not threatened by Black History Month or Cinco de Mayo celebrations. To me, diversity makes our culture better.
I have no idea whether or not I have not been hired because I was white. I do know of several cases where I was not hired because of my sexual orientation, so I know firsthand how minorities are treated in employment issues.
You work "in medicine," and you honestly expect anyone to believe that you have had difficulty getting a job because you are white?!? Please...
Again, I am so tired of white people who complain because the deck is no longer stacked in their favor.

Thank you for an honest reply. I do not choose to dislike a group or groups because they may be different. I dislike on an individual nature,Person to person. And if I do not care for them as a person I won't associate with them. I am neither con nor lib,I am simply me. I know what I like, and think I know right from wrong. What ticks me is folks who make assumptions that usually turn out to be wrong.
You stated that you were denied employment because of your sexual orientation. I don't agree with the people who turned you down, but why was it an issue to them?
I HAVE been turned down for a couple of jobs because I'm white and the companies had to have "diversity". Go figure...

You pass me on the street and sneer in my direction. You Call me "White boy," "Cracker," "Honkey," "Whitey," Caveman" ..And that's OK.
But when I call you, Nig..., Kike, Towel head, Sand-nig..., Camel Jockey, Beaner, Gook, or Chink...
You call me a racist.
You say that whites commit a lot of violence against you, so why are the ghettos the most dangerous places to live?
You have the United Negro College Fund.
You have Martin Luther King Day.
You have Black History Month.
You have Cesar Chavez Day.
You Have Yom Hashoah
You have Ma'uled Al-Nabi
You have the NAACP.
You have BET.
If we had WET (White Entertainment Television). We'd be racists.
If we had a White Pride Day ..You would call us racists. If we had White History Month
We'd be racists. If we had any organization for only whites to "advance" OUR lives
We'd be racists.
We have a Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, a Black Chamber of Commerce, And then we just have the plain Chamber of Commerce. Wonder who pays for that? If we had a college fund that only gave white students scholarships ... You know we'd be racists.
There are over 60 openly proclaimed Black Colleges in the US. Yet if there were "White colleges" ..
THAT would be a racist college. In the Million Man March, you believed that you were marching for your race and rights.
If we marched for our race and rights.
You would call us racists.
You are proud to be black, brown, yellow and orange, and you're Not afraid to announce it. But when we announce our white pride ..
You call us racists.
You rob us, carjack us, and shoot at us. But, when a white police officer shoots a black gang member or beats up a black drug-dealer running from the law and posing a threat to society.
You call him a racist.
I am proud. But, you call me a racist. Why is it that only whites can be racists?
There is nothing improper about this subject.
How can you be proud of something you have nothing to do with? You're proud of being white? I'm proud of my achievements. You're proud because you're white. Give me a break. What did you do to achieve this supremacy?

Yep, you're a racist and ignorant too. You truly don't know why we have Martin Luther King Day or Black History Month. You should be ashamed and embarrassed of this post. Apologize and take it back!

Even if you have not been hired a few time because you were white, you will never convince me that as a nurse (given the current shortage of nurses in this country) you have experienced difficulty in finding employment because of your race. The prejudices you have demonstrated in your messages on this board, however, suggest that your attitude may hinder your employment. I know I wouldn't want someone like you to be my nurse.

Many people are tuned down for jobs in Medicine for their race......and some are turned down because they do not speak spanish, cambodian, Vietnamese, or hmong. However, most of the time it is spanish. I refuse to learn spanish to accomodate these people & yes, being a Nurse I have been turned down for jobs, just for the reason of being white.
So you might just need a big bandaid for that bleeding heart, buddy.

I've been puzzling over these words. Why does my position "make sense now"? Are you suggesting that my being gay automatically makes me less racist? I suppose it makes some sense that being the victim of prejudice would make one more sensitive to bigotry against other groups, but sadly this does not seem to be the case. Racism is more or less as rampant in the GLBT community as within the general population.

By the way, since you apparently believe in stereotyping based on sexual orientation, you should have no problem with the assumption that your lack of sensitivity for others is because you are straight.

I certainly don't claim to be perfect. All of us are racist to a degree; evolutionary biologists believe that this may be a holdover from the time when "different" meant "threat." I work very hard, however, to minimize whatever prejudices I may have.

Quite honestly, racism has really never been much of an issue for me. I was born in Mississippi before the civil rights act; school desgregation did not happen until I was in the 7th grade. Needless to say, I grew up in a very racist culture (although my parents did not espouse racist beliefs). Nevertheless, I never -- even as a child -- understood racist attitudes. My mother had to forceably keep me from going and sitting in the waiting room for "coloreds" at the doctor's office when I was five. I simply did not understand why they couldn't sit with the rest of us.(And if you wonder why my mother stopped me, let me point out that this was during a time when bigoted white southerners were murderering people and bombing homes and churches in their fight against the civil rights movement.)

I've never found racist humor to be funny. While I may not have always vocalized my opposition, I have never laughed and typically walk away. Last spring, at my father's funeral in Mississippi, a cousin of mine made a racist remark about Native Americans. I chose not to say anything because I thought it was an inappropriate time to start a civil rights discussion. So I guess there are circumstances when I'm not as outspoken I'd like to be, but I try to be a positive role model.

Nowadays, we have White pride, black pride, brown pride and gay pride. Um, how can anyone be proud of their color? Or their orientation, or their race. It didn't do anything on it's own.

It just is.

It's what people DO that should be celebrated with pride. If you are just sitting there, feeling proud of yourself, then you might as well be proud of a log, or a rock, for all the good you're doing.
