I don't understand why you are hiding behind a Pseudonym and false location. If you did nothing wrong, why not be upfront about your identity? You are "Cricket" and maybe you need to explain yourself. Why all the lying? Why did you heckle the players on the Braves when they were at bat? Why did one of your coaches call one of the players "knucklehead"? What do you have against David anyway? You have an opportunity to fix your image..do it!

I heard about this thread and didn't believe it! But here it is and seeing there is so much response, maybe LYBA and the Lumberton REC need to print this out and pay some attention. Obviously there is a major problem and it needs to be addressed, otherwise there would not have been so much response to this. None of the coaches were perfect by any means and have no right to act like they were any better than anyone else. There was some obvious "camaraderie" among the three guys and seeing that they also sit on the board, I would think everyone can see this is a real conflict of interest. I will agree with Cindy in her assessment of David. You couldn't have a nicer guy coaching. It's unfortunate that this season ended on such a sour note. I hope that when fall ball starts this will be put behind us and a fix in place to prevent another season like this one. If not then I guess my boys will be changing sports.

This is an excellent post. Very much truth in this. If these problems exist (and I am removed from LYBA now for the most part), we need to assess where we are and move back to the ideals that we started the league with. I am as competitive as anyone and coached many all star teams. We tried as hard as we could to win. But representing Lumberton well was more important than winning. Treating everyone with respect was more important. Having players and families have fun was more important. All star selection will always cause hard feelings. No way around that. LYBA will need to let every coach know from here on out that poor sportsmanship will not be tolerated. Let me say that I know the President and most of the board and I do not believe that rules were broken or made up as they went along. DY has some odd rules, but LYBA has always done its best to follow them.
While I do agree with what you posted here, I do know the governing board/committee consists of some coaches - which leaves the perception that "favortism" exists, regardless of whether it does or not. The committee needs to be made up of solely those who would not be subject to any risk of conflict of interest. From what I've seen - and some fans have made the same assertion - the league doesn't focus on developing the skills for ALL of the children. There seems to be a predominant focal point on the "all stars". One can notice this by merely observing some of the coaches... they focus on the appointed "stars" and merely go through the motions with the other kids (playing the minimum of two innings in the field and one at-bat).

As for the coaches involved in this dispute... I know Coach Walters. I have seen his work, and coming from someone who has been involved with baseball their entire life (playing, coaching the youth from LYBA to high school), I believe he is a good coach. Is he perfect? Of course not. But from what I observed compared to the other coaches - he seemed to care for his team as a whole moreso than the majority of coaches in LYBA. Some of you "assaulting" him on here are exaggerating the details. He was blunt - if he felt there were areas the kids needed to improve on - he did. Not once did I see a kid on his team upset about something he said after the game. Parents - that's what coaching is. If mistakes are being made and the coach is doing nothing but offering flattery and praise - improvement cannot be made - which isn't that the PURPOSE of this league?(On a side note - EVERY coach criticizes/critiques their team... some choose to do it away from the kids/parents.) If a coach being blunt offends some of you so much - I strongly suggest not letting your kid play past rec-ball. Or at least not attending the games, because those coaches aren't going to "hold back". Trust me on that.

As for the other three coaches - I personally do not know any of you. Therefore I am not accusing you of anything. If these accusations are true - you should be ashamed. It would seem you're putting your personal goals and aspirations above the kids... which should not occur in any youth league. It's apparent you're reading this thread - why not address the problem apparently some people have with you? I'm certain your detractors and supporters would love to hear your side of the story. "Pleading the Fifth" tends to lead people to believe one is guilty... which I really hope isn't the case here. I would like to believe that volunteer coaches in a youth league would not stoop to such levels to win. It would really put a black eye on this league and the sport of baseball itself.

Please write another letter with more tears like you did last year telling everyone how sorry you are. I guess you didn't tell the few followers you have that the parents of your team along with the coaches told you to stay home and not come to the games. The reason the parents and coaches didn't want him to be at the games was the way he treated the parents, coaches and kids. If you don't believe me find one of his coaches or parents. Please ask them. You have very few people fooled but not the baseball people and the smart people. Thanks for entertaining me. I love it!
Is it true? Is ignorance bliss? I suspect you are an expert in the subject of ignorance by your utterly ridiculous rant. Son, wake up and stop trying to make this about one person. The problems are league wide and you and your two buddies just exacerbate the problems.

David can coach my boys any time! He's far and treats them equally. He is not too harsh with the children by any means and just because a couple of the parents and one assistant coach were not team players does not, by any stretch of the imagination, make them "baseball people or smart people! You three were intolerable and so transparent and obvious with what you were up to. You ruined the season for many of us with your antics. I pray that LYBA will do something about what you three were up to because it's not fair to anyone. Your sense of humor is about as spot on as your sense of right and wrong and fairness...pretty much nonexistent !

What a great game tonight! The boys played well and tried there best! But this blog wasn't about what West Robeson team did, it was about the cold hearted, cheating sucker of a coach that Lumberton has. Its said that they went all that extra mile to have meetings before the season and stacking the team to TRY and get a great team together and still ended up losing. But it's not the kids fault, we should only blame the coaches and the parents that allowed this to take place. Its just sad that the children are being the one to feel the effects of this behavior. For the ones that say West Robeson cheated, they would have to cheat 50 years just to catchup with Lumberton.

It is disheartening to read about all of the things that are apparently going on behind the scenes in a youth baseball league. Isn't it supposed to be about the kids learning a sport and having fun? Pretty sure that I won't be signing my kids up for LYBA baseball if this is what's going on! I just feel sorry for the kids who are being exposed to all of this lying, cheating, and immaturity. I hope that this is all put to rest and resolved. My concern is for Gavin. He's a kid who really loves the game and deserves to be treated fairly and have all the same opportunities as any other child. He and his friends also deserve to not have their friendships disrupted because of this mess, which in the big picture of all that is important in life, really doesn't matter. Just let it go. I feel sure coach Reed has seen enough here and with all the unpleasantness at the all stars, what a bad impression lumberton made, it's more than enough to work on implementing needed change.

Did all of these posting start after the "All Star" season was over? This is not the first year that stuff like this was going on. Ask the coaches from the early to mid 2000's

Its not just coach pitch. We had those same deals made in the Majors this year too. I mean look at the American Majors. 9, 12 year old and 3 11's. The plan was made before the season started. Look at how stacked the American side is. Nothing against the coaches that schemed that idea up, kudos to the other division coaches that busted up their "little" plan At least the National team does have a few of the "rightous". Too bad the supplemental team was already picked because of this also. Daddy ball is all it is. Glad my child is not playing this time but it sucks trying to explain to him why others that aren't even near his level at least make one of the 3 teams. LYBA needs an overhaul but they better wait till the American side takes State.

The original post was on May 12th but it didn't get active until after the "events" at the All Stars. It is something that needed to come out and hopefully something will be done about it.

As somebody who has had a son play in LBYA for many years it is amazing that it took this long for some people to realize what is going on. We had a decent experience at coach pitch because the coaches did not really know each other and all the players. After that it has been pretty much pre-determined who is going to play on all stars. I also do remember when coach hodges' kid could not play because he lives out of district. Of course that has changed since. What is most disturbing to me is when I look at the 2 majors all star teams this year. A stacked American team and a National team that frankly looks more like a supplemental team. There are some kids that should not be on the team and only made it because they played in the National league. I see some talented kids on the supplemental team who got screwed because they played in the American league but were not part of the predetermined "chosen" ones. It is a shame but I am sure this happens in other places. Thank god middle school and high school coaches don't care what all star team you played on. For the most part, the kids who should be playing will play were they need to play. Unfortunately, some kids who have the talent and physical attributes will not try out for middle school or high school ball because the kids or parents have been discouraged while playing LYBA. It is not like LYBA is producing outstanding Lumberton High School talent. Hell, some kids play LYBA but play on Orrum Middle school team and I guess Fairmont High later on. How should that be possible?

I do not live in Lumberton or Robeson County but I am from Robeson County. I have a child that plays Dixie Youth and I would just like to say that "Daddy Ball" is in every league. My child has been playing for seven years and has made All-Stars each year so I know the sport very well. As for the coaches you speak of I have known these guys for years. I have seen them coach for All-Stars and in Travel-Ball and I would let my child play for them any day. Yes the sport is about the kids having fun but I have never seen a team of kids having fun when they are losing!!
Speaking of travel ball. How come there are never try outs for travel ball. It is all "hush hush" and the coaches pick their favorite players, just like all stars. Unless you are in the circle your kid does not have a chance for travel ball. How come I don't see ads like in hope mills for travel ball try outs?

The reasons you have kids playing lyba and playing at OMS and FHS is because the lyba and school lines overlap each other.
