CHANGE...In the late 1950's most Cubans thought Cuba needed "a change" and they were right. So when a young, dynamic leader came along, every Cuban was at least receptive. When the young leader spoke eloquently and passionately and denounced the old system, the press fell in love with him. They never questioned who his friends were or what he really believed in. He said he would help the farmers and the poor and bring free medical care and education to all, and everyone followed. He said he would bring justice and equality to all, and everyone said "Praise the Lord!" The young leader said, "I will be for change and I'll bring you change," and everyone yelled, "Viva Fidel!" But by the time the executioners guns went silent, the people's guns had been taken away. By the time everyone was equal, they were equally poor, hungry, and oppressed. By the time everyone received their free education it was worth nothing. By the time the press noticed, it was too late, because they were now working for him. By the time "the change" was finally implemented Cuba had been knocked down a couple of notches to Third-World status. By the time the change was over more than a million people had taken to boats, rafts, and inner tubes. Luckily, we in America would never fall for a young leader who promised change without asking, "what change?" Would we?
The endorsement of Obama for President has sent a clear message that Smithtown News is not a fair and balanced source of information. The Smithtown News ha done a great disservice to the people of Long Island. SN failed to report, as all the other outlets, on Obama's Socialist policies. His advocacy of murdering the unborn. Who next will not be worthy of life if he is elected? The elderly or maybe the disabled? His absolute disdain for the country in which he has made is fortune and is campaigning to represent. His associations with people who hate this country, have caused it harm and taken lives. What about the questions surrounding his true place of birth. At the very least Obama does not have the experience nor has he served in government long enough to qualify him for President. These are not the characteristics of a man worthy of being President of a great nation. America has problems of course. That is no excuse to not be loyal and work to fix the country and take it into a direction of healing.
The media has a responsibility to report BOTH sides of the ticket good and bad. SN has no issues with pointing out John McCain's short comings but do not report on all the good he has done. They report the alleged positive accomplishments of Obama yet you do not report on his failures. You fail to inform the people of this island that are struggling that when taxes are raised it trickles down to every single person in every way.
You have done a great job of re-printing the talking points of the Obama camp and have proven your allegiance. You have failed the citizens of Long Island miserably by not reporting ALL the FACTS on BOTH candidates good or bad.
This election is not about race, gender or who has more money. There are 2 candidates and neither are perfect. One will take this country down a slippery dark slope and the other will try to repair it. People needed the media to point out the pros and cons of each candidate so that they could make an educated decision. The Smithtown News has not done this.
