Just wondering if anyone was aware of the departments mission statement? This is too much!! Who the heck do they think they have fooled? Their statement is as follows: It is NOT the function of the department to PUNISH you, only to hold you in a SAFE and HUMANE manner to provide OPPORTUNITIES for you to improve yourself until you have completed your sentence. Now let me tell of my story and the things I have encountered since my loved one was sentenced to adc time. He is in his 30's and got mixed up in drugs really really bad. He was arrested in a couple of different counties for poss of drugs etc. Every single one of his charges are VICTIMLESS crimes. We were told at court that due to his charges being drug related he would need to take the 6 month drug program. Which we were grateful to hear because this is what he needs. However, it has been everything but an experience of opportunities or humane and safe for him. He was taken to his initial assignment unit just about a month ago. He is under restriction from medical due to an injury so is not able to work. This facility also has no drug programs or as far as we can see no opportunities to improve yourself in any way. He sits, day in and day out, doing absolutely nothing except being exposed to true hardened criminals. If they are not true criminals in entering this organization then you can bet your money that by the time they leave they will surely be criminals. I am going to break down what a day in his shoes is like. Ok, you get up at 3 am, make your bed and get yourself ready for breakfast at 4am. He leaves breakfast and heads right back to the barracks to sit until 10am (lunch). He eats lunch then heads back to sit, goes to supper at 3pm then goes to barracks to sit, they bring the mail around sometime between 6-8pm. After this mail call you sit some more until bedtime which is 10 or 10:30pm. Then it starts all over again. If someone can see an opportunity in this situation if you wouldnt mind would you please tell me what that opportunity is?? Also this unit has NO DRUG PROGRAMS for him to participate in so he is ripped of this opportunity also. We are trying to get him moved to a unit that does offer opportunities to improve yourself such as, in his case, drug treatment programs and any other positive programs. But have ran into the issue of "he has to wait his 60 day initial assignment time period" before he can transfer, if he is able to transfer at all. The guards do not speak to the inmates nor do they want the inmates speaking to them. There are no cameras up to monitor them as they sit in the barracks all day long, and they may go 3 hours without seeing a guard other than to do count. They are left to fend for themselves and 9 out of 10 fights go undetected. The bottom line: WE, AS TAXPAYERS, ARE PAYING THEM TO PROVIDE THESE PEOPLE WITH OPPORTUNITIES TO IMPROVE THEIR LIVES YET THEY ARE SITTING ON THEIR BUTTS, DOING WHATEVER THEY PLEASE, WHEN THEY DO SPEAK TO AN INMATE IT IS NOTHING BUT NEGATIVE AND IN A VERY HIGH TONE, AND WE ARE PAYING FOR THEM TO CREATE MONSTERS AND HARDENED CRIMINALS THAT WE WILL ONE DAY HAVE TO DEAL WITH WHEN THEY ARE RELEASED BACK INTO OUR SOCIETY. The governors office has been made aware of this situation and the attorney generals office has to and neither seem to care. So my suggestion is that if you are a hard working citizen and you want to see positive changes you let your voice be heard and demand those responsible be held accountable. There are good guards, dont get me wrong, but there are also good inmates that are there for only harming themselves with drugs or some sort of violation. These lazy adc authorities should be imprisoned for not following the guidelines but they are not. As it is now no one is being held accountable and they have managed to keep us occupied with other problems enough for them to be able to slide by under the radar of the publics view. I encourage each of you to research and learn more about this!!!

I also have been dealing with this same type of thing with a member of my close family. He is also in for drugs and has also been sent to a prison that does not even offer a drug treatment program. There is only one class available and he applied 3-4 times and never got a response from them. This is getting so old and it is wrong. I wish someone would really check these people out and see what is really going on because they are just able to do this and get away with it. They are not rewarded for wanting to participate in programs. Hell they arent even rewarded for having the motivation to participate because god knows they arent going to actually allow them to better themselves. They would much rather them sit in the barracks and do nothing than to actually do something that would benefit them and help them once they are back into society. They take take and take from them and never ever look past the punishment phase of their job duties. It is about more than that and it is about the employees also following the rules too. The higher ups have to know what is going on....they just do not care to do anything to change it. They are going around enouraging these inmates to do things that are against the rules and promising them whatever they want in exchange for money and when the inmate gets caught they could care less and they are never even questioned about it. They just move on to the next newby. I can only think of one group of people that would be able to do anything with cash in a prison. How about the employees? A prisoner sure cant do anything with cash. But instead of investigating why there would be cash in the prison walls they just punish the inmate and move on to the next disciplinary hearing. I never did even dream that this was as corrupt as it really is but I have been shown otherwise. Firing every single person including those in their "high" positions and starting over sure sounds like a plan to me. And as far as you saying the governor and all didnt care....that is soooo wrong because we put him where he is. And you are right we are paying these people to do these things. It is so wrong all the way around!!! We need a change in everything. From the governor to the director to the unit wardens and anyone else who does not do their job. I hope more people than just us gets involved in this because the more who do the more chance we have at getting a resolution to this.
