Religion...mad man-made system/tool that can be harmful if not distribute with care, as long it does not impose upon a right of the person. But, some still need religion as guidance and structure like criminals such as murder, rapist... it can help them sometimes to become better person if taught morally without evil influences. Until that time when man can decide on which religion to disband and which to keep the good religion . As you know man always need each other, we as communal animal congregate, we need look to fulfill the void of emptiness and that is religion! Religion can be used for good or evil, so we have to becareful on what we pick!

Now if we could just get the churches to teach what the Bible actually says and not try to put some political spin on it. Jesus has better things to do than worry about the new sewer lines on New Haven street and the Bond Issue is not satin inspired.

Society can not survive without religion. Communism proved that.

I'm about as religious as it gets on topix but theoretically was there a first culture before religion existed? If so clearly society can survive. Although if there were no penalties for anything I don't think it would

No, it really didn't.

If anything, the failed Russian version of communism proved that every artificial bubble in economics eventually deflates. The Russian economy was based on "robbing Peter to pay Paul". Over time, it was unsustainable.

Religion played very little role in the downfall of the Warsaw Pact. It's strongest influence was as a temporary shield for the Solidarity movement in Poland.

As a counter-point, China, officially nonreligious and a country with a history of religious persecution, continues as a Communist country.

i think more damage has prevailed in the name of religion that not. IMO religion is a frame of mind. we spend too much time judging others in the name of religion & at the same time we are damaging not only each other but also our planet.

You are incorrect. The human soul DOES NOT revolve around economics.

And as far as China goes...The ONLY reason it has survived is because America has allowed it because of our greed. Human atrocities abound from religious persecutions in that country. It is only a matter of time when a new class of "male only" society will implode on itself.

You fail to mention the idea of how atheism effecs the morale of humans...Where is the hope to keep moving on?

Religion=hate and intolerance. The world would be much better off without it.

We live in a different place... its not too many years before humans stop believing in God all together.

We live in a time where people don't believe in faith, they don't believe on something that can not be proven... as some have already figured out, you can't prove the existence of a God.

Sadly, its just a matter of time...

Nobody really knows what will happen once the world stops following religion... Maybe its something bad, maybe its something good, we just have to wait and see...

Secular democratic government is the only system that can provide world peace -- it is the only system that allows multiple religions to coexist with mutual respect. Religious governments always lead to war.

Actually that's not quite correct. Atheistic
communism was actually an attempt to replace
religion with the veneration of the State,
complete with all the trappings of "religion."

Instead of the Bible, the Soviet Union and its
satellites were given Karl Marx' writings. In
China the Bible was replaced with the sayings
of Chairman Mao. The tombs of communist
leaders were made into the equivalent of
cathedrals. Every aspect of religious practice
was incorporated into the public expression of
communism, just as Christianity coopted elements
of other religious expressions centuries before.

So its not really a matter of having "religion"
or not, but what kind of "religion" we will have.

can we do without religious structure?......yes.

can we do without moral structure?......NO.

religion does not own morality...and often hides behind morality while committing immoral acts.
