OK, enough is enough - every night the same thing on almost every TV channel. Why is so much attention being given to Haiti while worse catastrophes have occurred around the world? Is this the tiny island of orphaned children who are now being airlifted to the USA for urgent adoption? This many children must have relatives in the immediate Haiti area still alive - we're talking thousands of children here.

We have more media coverage and helping hands in the Haiti catastrophe than actually any catastrophe that has occurred within the USA.

It looks like the Christians have done it again. The "Feed the Children" commercials are now a reality in our backyard. We have enough homeless children in our country of which many have be abandoned by living parents. I just can't believe people are lining up to adopt any Haitian child they can.

Many may say my statement is cold and heartless, but why does the USA have to be the savior and the world's septic tank for other countries?

I hate it too, I mean, we didn't help China? I want to watch the weather channel and 50% of it is Haiti! I mean, landslides are happening and waterfalls off the freeway are happening in my area! I can't go ANYWHERE without hearing about Haiti. We're in an recession, some say a depression, but we don't help ourselves. We help this one country that when were finished it gives no benefit to us.

The Haitians are worthless and will never amount to anything other than crimes, hatred, and squalor. Let a mortally wounded animal die...

I will say this for the internet: by getting my news solely from it, as soon as I heard there was an earthquake in Haiti, I was able to control my exposure to anything about it--so far I've managed to avoid seeing any footage, video, photos, articles about it, etc. I had to stop listening to NPR entirely. Despite the hysterical media's perverse insistence that I pay attention and care, I have remained steadfast in my refusal to pay any attention at all.
So long as there's one suffering American, not one dollar should leave the country until every American has shelter, food, clothing. Our crumbling infrastructure is more important than their crumbled one.

I know, sheesh! I feel sorry for the people in LA who had that tornado, the Mount St. Helens eruption, the St. Louis tornado, more than I do Haiti! Haiti used to be unknown then that stupid earthquake came along! Dang, people! There are little kids in Zimbabwe who don't even have enough money to buy a broken pebble and people in China who's meals are eating dry rice out of a bucket!

Mr. Slippy, you find it irritating to see and hear of other people's tragedies. You are angry over the attention they recieve by the news media. Most adults do not feel as you do...otherwise this news would not be covered. Right?
You hold a "minority view" on the subject. More people actually care more than you do. It's a fact. You are entitled by the laws we are governed by to have and hold your opinion. Just be aware that your point of view is not shared by most people around the world. And your "semi-argument" that other deserving people around the world have troubles too, does not rule out the charity and service that is provided to people in unfortunate circumstances.
You might want to discuss your feelings with someone you respect to better understand how charity and outreach are held in high regard by civilized people as a standard of important community behavior. Just "feeling" sorry does'nt provide the help that is really needed in these emergency circumstances.
Mutual support and civil caring is the second Commandment in most bibles for very good reasons.
It helps keep civilized society intact in good times and in bad times. Think about these tings.

We need about three marathons a year to raise this kind of money for our own people. We could wipe out homelessness in a few years.
You sort of don't know how things work. Welfare and charity have their place in the scheme of things but education, job training and legitimate work are the primary means to boost our economy...not govt. giveaways. Welfare is temporary while jobs are being sought.
Never permanent. It's a fact.

Haiti is a money pit. While I feel bad that they had a natural disaster, I also understand the strain that it puts on Americans. Essentially, we put EVERYONE before us....and that is a shame.

Haven't we learned anything in the middle east? You can't change a culture. Haiti was an impoverished, crime ridden country prior to the disaster, and it will remain so.

Once Haiti is stabilized, we need to back out, and allow other countries to step up to the plate. We were scrutinized by France and others, that the US was trying to occupy Haiti...so let them take care of things.

We always help...and we always get criticized. I'm sick of it!

Both you and Andet come from insular, parochial ignorance of what the facts are and self-appointments on "how things should be done".
Typical ignorant socialist /radical activist dummy talk. Typical of quasi-educated, "know nothings" echoing talking points from Progressives bent on overthrow of our nation. The public is waking up to the "scourge" you present to our Constitutional freedoms...so just keep it up. Free Speech in action.

socialist/radical?

How do you figure?

Because I don't think that our bankrupt nation should finance the world?

You don't make sense.

I am "for" the Constitution and our freedom. Not against it.

Its all P.R..We want to show the rest of the world how caring and compassionate we are, while we let many of our own children live in poverty and squalor. We ship billions of dollars around the world to help out worthless 3rd world countries while we cant even feed some of our own people. This country wastes so much money its not even funny. How many billions of dollars have we blown to go see if there is water on Mars? How many foreclosed families could we have helped here with that money?
