Thank you Rotor, Oki and those that served and protected our country ... you are truly special to me ... to my daddy, USMC * SEMPER FI * OO-RAH ...

On certain military honorary days you may see tables set out giving away artificial "poppies" and taking "donations" for same ... Probably because of this great soldier:

Lieutenant Colonel John Alexander McCrae, MD (November 30, 1872 – January 28, 1918) was a Canadian poet, physician, author, artist and soldier during World War I, and a surgeon during the Second Battle of Ypres, in Belgium. He is best known for writing the famous war memorial poem "In Flanders Fields". McCrae died of pneumonia.

He also wrote this song poem:

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie
In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
In Flanders fields.
--5-3-1915 -- Lieutenant Colonel John McCrae, MD

Cold Winter
The Indians asked their Chief in Autumn if the Winter was going to be cold or not.
Not really knowing an answer, the chief replies that the Winter was going to be cold and that the members of the village were to collect wood to be prepared.

Being a good leader, he then went to the next phone booth and called the National Weather Service and asked, "Is this winter to be cold?"

The man on the phone responded, "This Winter is going to be quite cold indeed."

So the Chief went back to speed up his people to collect even more wood to be prepared. A week later he called the National Weather Service again, "Is it going to be a very cold winter?"

"Yes", the man replied, "it's going to be a very cold Winter."

So the Chief goes back to his people and orders them to go and find every scrap of wood they can find. Two weeks later he calls the National Weather Service again: "Are you absolutely sure that the
Winter is going to be very cold?"

"Absolutely," the man replies, "the Indians are collecting wood like crazy!"

If the chief had a phone, why didn't they just watch TV?

On the other hand ...
Once uopn a time two great tribes were warring with each other, to no good effect. Finally the chiefs agreed to come together to talk peace. They decided that if the two could have their children wed, then all would be well with the tribes. Both would benefit of course.
Well, the first chiefs daughter had no desire to be wed to a brutal man like Lone Eagle. So, that night Falling Rock ran away.
For the next weeks they searched. The search turned into months, but still no luck. Falling Rock was not to be found anywhere.
That was years ago, but still today, as you drive around in the mountains you see signs directing to take care and keep an eye out. So be careful and
watch for Falling Rock.
