I'm bummed.
Are you bummed about the OU game or the snow? lol

Sorry, I had to get that jab in after last nights Cotton Bowl, but that freshman quarterback Johnny M from A&M is the real deal, that guy is a winner! I would hate to have to go up against him, same as Robert Griffin of the Redskins! There are some great quarterbacks coming out lately!!

Great Seattle game! Glad to see RG3 walking around after the game. That looked horrible when his knee folded.

Good morning friendlies

What a wonderful weekend of riding. Trotted quite a bit, but of course it didn't last too long until my boy broke into a canter (or lope for the folks who don't know what I'm talking about)

Looking forward (and actually nervous) about this coming Saturday. A few of the riders invited me to join them for a trot around the dam. No stopping, just trot all the way. Going to be pretty extreme and tiring (both horses and riders) but if I really push myself I think I'll manage. Would be wonderful for my goal towards shedding some extra weight...

But constantly doing the rising trot can be quite harsh on your legs (thighs mostly).

Anyway, have yourselves a wonderful start to the week :-)

Forgot to mention: The ride will be from 7-8am, so they reckon it'll only take an hour. Wow, we're certainly be moving then! I hope they take as many shortcuts as possible then at least. It normally takes 1hr 15min to move to the halfway-mark, where we unsaddle and rest for about 30min and then another hour, 15minutes back to the yard. Of course it involves a lot of walking, with the odd trot and canter...

Guess we'd be able to go the full distance in an hour if we really push ourselves. Just hope it's not too hot that day <grin>

There comes a time when a woman just has to trust her husband...

for example...

A wife comes home late at night, and quietly opens the door to her bedroom.

From under the blanket she sees four legs instead of two.

She reaches for a baseball bat and starts hitting the blanket as hard as she can.

Leaving the covered bodies groaning, she goes to the kitchen to have a drink.

As she enters, she sees her husband there, reading a magazine.

"Hi Honey", he says, "Your parents have come to visit us, so l let them stay in our bedroom.

Did you say "hello"?

Not just my butt, my arms, stomach, back and legs. And I'm sure my knees are gonna be like jelly when we finally return.

I think I should start practicing during the week, trotting the whole hour route (not around the dam though) to work on our fitness. Seeing as he's an older horse, he's also bound to be quite stiff and sore afterwards. One of the ladies going with is a veterinary nurse (specializing in horses), might be good to ask her advice. The last time I spoke about slowly increasing workload to work on his fitness (once after a resting period), her response was, "Horses run, hop and fart in the field, they are a lot fitter than we give them credit for" So she's bound to give me the same answer this time around, though the circumstances are different.

I don't know, I don't think I'll have the stamina to trot all the way around the dam. It's going to be exhausting and hard work. But I'll give it a try and see

Well if you can get on him 2 or 3 time this week and maybe trot straight for 15, 30 and 45 then an hour won't be a huge step from his sort of lazy life waiting around for his foot to heal up.
Probably be good for you too.

Spoke to a couple of people on a local horse forum (HorseJunction) and they advise against it, because I won't be able to get him fit enough in a week's time. So I'll rather err on the side of caution and give it a skip. Don't really think it's a good idea anyway, as I can't even trot for 5min, let alone an hour! So I'm going to pass on this crazy idea. Leave it to the "pros" Lol
