Can't complain - need to check on my brother in Boston, though. Couldn't get through last night.

Hi Shoevey,
Hope yours are ok. Couldn't get in-laws either. Think phone lines down. Towers, etc..

I imagine that most have heard of the loss of HMS Bounty(replica)taken by Sandy off Cape Hateres N.C.
The Capt. is still missing, 13 crew recoverd. one dying.
Why did they take a 90' ship out in such a storm, while short handed? The minimum crew is 24. Those being experienced seamen.

I heard about it, maybe they thougt they would have a better chance saving the boat out off the coast, but that's insane!

Luckily I have never had to endure that kind of severe weather. Here's what they did wrong. a short handed crew thought the better of it to go under power. Sail is designed to work with the wind, not against it. Under sail the boat would have survived. The original one rounded the horn of S. America. They could have done it too.

Watch the wreck get confused with others by some nit-wit diver.
The worst I have ever seen was 60 kts. 15+ feet. Put my masthead in the water it did. THAT was scary, much more so than any holloween! It happened when I had to turn to run before the wind. Wow, did the speed pickup fast.
But it smoothed out and sailed fine on storm jib and mizzen course.
They should have set foresails and spanker, reefed of course.
