If Ratsie himself confesses to buggering kids, 99% of catholics will say how great it is and forgive him with no further penalty than fasting and prayer.

This is not about forgiveness. This is about his inability to lead the Church in the 21 st Century.
Coverup, secrecy and looking the other way no longer works on this day and age.
He should step down like others have when caught in a scandal of these dimensions.
His failure to own up is hurting the Church and the effectiveness of future Church leaders

I'll use words that I'm sure you're familiar with. Particularly if you've been peddling that line very long:

Maureen Dowd posits this in her NYT column today.

What is the rationale for this statement? Are women bereft from any human frailies? They are immune, or their leadership would be immune from error?

Yes, the pope should resign, but he'll never do it because he's so filled with pride.

nanasil, I think you're right, but he would NEVER humble himself and step down. He lacks the humility to do so.

There is no reason to resign. This is the time that the Church needs him most. This is the time to "face the music" for a possible solution of "healing, penance and reconciliation".

He has not committed a crime himself. On the contrary he is trying to solve this kind of problem that is a disease that has been happening long time ago not only to the priests but to all fields in life even up to the lawmakers and peacemakers.

From the Dowd column:
American bishops have gotten politically militant in recent years, opposing the health care bill because its language on abortion wasn’t vehement enough, and punishing Catholic politicians who favor abortion rights and stem cell research. They should spend as much time guarding the kids already under their care as they do championing the rights of those who aren’t yet born.

ME:
I would like to see the cult & Nazi Ratzi investigated by an international tribunal. I would like to see the sins and crimes of these people fully exposed, and every one of these expensively dressed, jeweled, and shod pimps, rapists and pedophiles be brought to justice. I would like to see every one of their victims receive hand written apologies and compensation from every one of these cult leaders involved in their rapes and the coverups. I would like to see some honesty from the cult itself about its failure to lead its faithful sheeple, and the failure of its position as a world religious leader.
I would like to see the wealth of the Vatican dispersed to reverse the spread of AIDS in Africa caused by its vile lies about condoms. I would like to see the cult get out of the business of speaking to its sheeple about sexuality at all. It has lost the moral authority to do so.
I would like to see the bureaucrats, pimps, panderers, enablers, and filth that is the RCCult hierarchy disbanded and forced into the real world that its sheeple live w\in - lives of poverty, illness, despair, and broken trust. I want Nazi Ratzi tried & convicted & sentenced for his crimes against decency & humanity.
Then, perhaps, the RCCult will attain some value in the hearts of decent people. Until then, it is a sewer.

Whether the pope is male or female isn't really the issue - the RC church simply needs BETTER LEADERSHIP.

Oh, KissandTell - would you object to Mary heading up the church?

You are a dishonest apologist for this creep is what you are.

This pope is directly responsible for many many abused children by shuffling around these pedophile comradeds of his from one parish to another.

Wisconsin priest accused of molesting 200 deaf boys was spared defrocking in 1990s by future pope
