Or maybe he did it because he was screwing Joe's wife?

Joe and his wife were already on parole for drug and weapon charges. Maybe it had something to do with a bad drug deal gone bad?

I live in Lafayette Indiana, my grandsdon went to school with the man killed. I looked it up just to read the article.
It makes no difference if it was self defence, he broke the law.. he broke the parole rules... NO WEAPONS people..
Hard as it may seem, we have laws to keep in this world, with out them we would have lots more of killings... So obay the law and keep a life....

This guy and his wife were both on parole and served time for drugs and weapons. It's known all over, that once out of prison, on parole, and back home together with their kids and family; they were right back into heavy drug use. what about the children? who takes care of them? the elderly grandparents and the state?

I am saddened by the death of one time friend Joey Rush. I can only say from what I knew of him, he was easy going and never one to start a fight. I never knew him to drink or smoke much less use drugs. I can only imagine in my own mind that this was a case of wrong time, wrong place. It is tragic and I feel terrible for his family.

Joey was my cousin and you are right about him never starting a fight. He was so easy to get along with, the guy wouldnt hurt a fly. He just got mixed up with the wrong people it sounds like and paid with his life. The guy who gunned him down Joseph Vanstavern is a mad dog killer pure and simple, wanted on a parole violation too. I hope that guy gets raped nonstop in prison. The guy is pure trash and will get whats coming to him.

I knew them both for many years- they were both amazing guys - it was not a case of wrong place wrong time. Joe had cleaned up his act -he and his wife were divorced because she didn't- Joe still owned the home for the record- and Joey was on drugs- I believe it was self defense and am saddened that two such amazing guys went in such a bad direction-they both have paid with their lives ultimately and all because of drug use.

my x husband is dating joe and i knew joey cause i was his roomate several years ago. iknow for a fact that joe was a very dangerous man and so is his ice addict x wife. she is the one to blame!! chasity should have kept her legs closed and her mouth shut and maybe joey would be alive and joe wouldn't be in jail! i remember a few years ago when joe pointed a gun at a friend of mine just cause he was talking to that ice head!!! she is the one that needs to be behind bars right beside joe!!

joey rush was a complete ice head, and a thief. altough he didnt deserve to die, he shouldnt have stole so much. i knew both men, and i know of numerous times that joey stole from joe. how can u say joey didnt use drugs, when toxicology results were positive for meth?

I dont think so scooter. My stepsister happens to be dating Joe, and was present during the shooting. However, you are right that his ex should be in jail.

Im disapointed by how many of you who have posted comments dont really know the facts of this case. I am a Carrollton resident so I've read all the articles written about this incident, and I happen to have known both men very well. I just wish people would get their facts straight before they comment.

What are the facts? Where should I start? Well, first of all Vanstavern was on parole for drug charges(trafficing meth)not weapon charges as it has been said. Altough he was not residing at the home at the time of the shooting, he did still own the house and property. Toxicology results for both men were positive for meth, so this talk about Rush being an angel is crazy. He was most certainly a druggie, and a notorious thief. It was not an act of self defense, since forensic evidence suggests that Rush was in a crouching position when he was shot, and was also unarmed.

It was theft, not robbery.

All these comments, and opinons are now irrelevent, due to the fact that the trial is over. Vanstavern was ordered to serve life plus 5 years, which is overkill if you ask me, but that's the way the ball bounces. I feel for both families, and my thoughts and prayers go out to them both. I feel that both men made bad choices in life, and on the day in question. I dont feel that either one deserves what they got. It just goes to show how bad choices can ruin our lives.

Wow! Several more lost to meth? What a waste. My step-son was on that stuff at age 13. His best pal's mother got him started on it. There is nothing good you can say about that stuff. thanks for the information/facts.
