My brother was sentenced to 22 years on a first time low level non violent drug conspiracy indictment. As it stands he has been incarcerated now for 6 years and has no chance for parole since federal prisons do not have parole. His out date is 2020. He was never caught with anything. They convicted him on other peoples testimony. The people who testified either walked free, or obtained sentence reductions for snitching on him. His co defendant got absolutely no time at all in exchange for testifing against my brother and now has turned his life to GOD.

As a matter of fact I beleive that he will!! You see I wrote to him about 3 years ago when he was an Illinois senator. His reply made me happy he said that if he ever had the opportunity to vote on the issue that he would vote in its favor. The only thing that dissapointed me was that I did not know who this guy was and so to me it meant nothing. BUT NOW I DO KNOW WHO HE IS AND WHOOO HOOO.

Thank you Linda. I knew I could count on you!!!

I find it appalling to know that a person was sentenced to 22 years on MM Law on the testimony of people who were convicted and getting reductions or immunity. I watched a story on Tru TV about Kemba Smith who was pardoned from a long sentence based on the MML. She was tricked into pleading guilty. The person she was going to help find and convict ended up dead. Prosecutors are allowed to lie to the defendant in order to get a guilty plea.

I heard President Bush comment that one size does not fit all children when speaking about education. In the same concept one set of MM Guidlines does not fit all crimes. I support Federal Parole for non violent first time offenders. President Obama will you PLEASE approve Federal Parole and sentencing reduction for first time, non-violent offenders.

it is unfortunate and appalling that ALL are not doing the same amount of time (22 years). as the saying goes...if you cant do the time, dont do the crime.

Honey I think you are talking about a dead bill. This year we are no higher than HR 40. There may be a new bill presented this year in May Ive heard but we have got to ask our lawmakers to support it and co sponsor any and all legislation pertaining to it. Please find out who your representative is and drop them a note. PLEASE. Do not wait until May it will be wayyyy to late.

I know of murder cases that net a lot less time than some first time drug offenders. I do believe that they should reinstate federal parole and for allowance for good time work efforts. Everyone deserves a second chance if thet prove they're trying to rehabilitate. There should not be any mandatory minimum sentences. In my sons case they got the amount wrong that he was sentenced for. And that is in his transcript.

I agree that non-violent offenders should get parole, especially when we have drunk drivers who kill people, child rapists and wife beaters walking the streets.

You did come to visit THANK You.

Thank you all this is the response that I was hoping to get. Sometimes you just dont know what people will come up with. I think that with just a tad bit of education it dosent take a rocket scientist or a passivist to understand that these people are truely getting the raw end of very wrong sentening laws.

I agree that 1st time offender that are non violent should have parole. Conspiracy charges and got 60 months. Never been in trouble. The judge told him that he didnt think he deserved such harsh but by the "guidelines" he had no other choice. We need to support to bring back Federal Parole plus adjusting the guidelines. I think it should be up to the judge to do the sentencing.
