Does anyone know if the folks who lost their jobs last year and are running out of unemployment benefits will be able to get a 3rd extension?

I have heard there is a 20 or 33 week extension but cannot find anything for sure.

When President Bush signed the extension of unemployment it provided seven additional of first UC and in high employment states an addtional 13 weeks. All Pres. Obama's package did is extend the time table from end of March 2009 to December 2009. IE no third extension. Their is conversation of third extension on Capital hill. Write you Congressman and explain long term unemployed have a hard time finding a job and the the economy is shedding thousands of more jobs each week.

Our Congressman/Congresswoman already knows the unemployment situation. There is absolutely NO reason to send them a letter trying to educate them on our employment status.

In other words, they know the numbers.

How can there not be a third extension when the unemployment rate continues to grow each day. No one feels the unemployment pressure than us who are looking for any job to survive.

A lot of us unemployed folks misunderstood the unemployment extension provision in the Obama stimulus bill. Most thought it was a true 3rd extension... not just an eligibility expiration date change for the 2nd extension. I think a lot of Obama supporters are going to be shocked and highly disappointed when they figure out the truth. There are no jobs now and there are only going to be fewer jobs in the coming weeks and months. Thanks for nothing Barry O.

Whatever is the "official" unemployment percent,
the actual usually is about double that.
So, 9% equals about 18%.
Pretty darn high if you ask me.

let's just revoke corporate charters,
as we can and always could since the founding of the US.
our legal creations should not be allowed to be out of our control.

The stimulus bill reads "New claims for extended unemployment benefits have been extended through Dec 31,2009" Everyone thought this means we got a 3rd extension! What a FARCE!

I sure was hoping for a third extension also. My 2nd. extension is about to run out. There are no jobs in Michigan, only more lay-offs and plant closings. We need our newly appointed leader to help us, not send millions/billions in aide to the foriegn countries. We need those millions/billions right here in the good Ole' USA !

Question? I live in Pa and my unemployment will run out shortly, I have never had an extension, but from what I am understanding you must have an eligible quarter to get an extension? I only had one quarter in the whole year, do to being off for a vehicle accident, does that mean I will not get an extension? so confused on extensions in pa and who is eligible.

Yes, hearing the amount of the latest aide package directed towards middle east peace just added to the camel's back(no pun intended). We're talking numbers in the billions, added to the already outrageous amount spent on the Iraq war each month. All three branches of the federal government need to open their eyes and minds to the significance of each individuals plight, and support those that have been unemployed for some time. The math is easy, the number of unemployed continues to grow, as the rate of layoffs vs. the rate of employment oppurtunities available continues to surpass the "predicted" number of future unemployed. Please contact your legislative representatives and remind them of this continued imbalance, and the further need of a 3rd extension, and allow the unemployed the affordability to continue to beat the pavement every day in search of those rare oppurtunities to return to the workforce.

I have wrote the president, the congress, the representives. I have not only asked for help for myself but for all of us out there that are still unemployed from last year. I have never been on welfare in my life and I must say that being unemployed really stinks.
I have a college education and I still can not find work. Lets all hope that they get their heads out of their butts and help us out.

I have looked everywhere looking for something. I am in Texas where the unemployment rate has gone to 6.4 up every month. I know New York has extended emergency benefits 13 more weeks. It is on there website. I am really frustrated at how the unemployment stimulus was portrayed. I have just ran out of my second extension and fell behind on my mortgage. Have looked EVERYWHERE for a job. I also will be paying childcare so I need to be making something after paying childcare. I am not sure how some things passed as needed under the stimulus but extending benefits was not one of them. Well felt good to vent. Good Luck everyone!! This will turn around

My daughter lost her job with the Government and her unemployment is to run out next week, she may face loosing her car so then how does she find a job? She has been looking for months and no jobs available. Please make a 3rd extension, there are so many unemployed people that need help.

It's incredible that out of $ 700 billions plus dollars , and a 700 plus pages of text of the bill passed by Obama, there's no third extension of U-Benefits for the ones that we going to run out of benefits on april 11 2009, in what way this action will benefit the recuperation of the economy, if we the long term unemployed will not have the money for contribute to the economy, and also why the congress don't act in one step as a whole, instead they are going piece by piece. Shame on you Democrats learn from Bush he give us 33 weeks of extensions last year.

I just want people to know that I contacted the unemployment office in my area. I ran out of emergency benefits in January. I did recieve a total of 20 weeks of EUC benefits. That was all I was eligable for because the unemployment rate in my state was below 6%. I was told that the unemployment rate in my area skyrocketed to 6.2% in january. I was also told that if february and march was above 6% I would be eligable for an additional 13 weeks. your state must be above 6% for 3 consecutive months before you can collect an additional 13 weeks. ( i hope i understood this correctly )...
