Oh yeah?

Here; 2+2=4

That is absolutely true, therefore absolute truth DOES exist

Hi There.. In the sixties they introduced "New Math" which is based on the binary system. I remember there were different "bases" that yielded different answers than the math we had grown up with. For instance...2+2=8 in base 4. Well, it sure screwed me and a generation up when it came to math. Here's the wiki page on it. Hope it helps.

Only objects exist, concepts do not exist... If truth is an object, could somebody please show me in an image or photo?

Truth, ultimately, must be observed to verify if a statement resolves to the world. Can anyone who me what an 'absolute truth' refers to?

Truth does not 'exist' because it is not some part of an object, but is a concept we use to verify statements made about the world. If truth does not exist, how can 'absolute truth' exist?

The statement "Absolute truth exists" is also problematic as it has been derived from a reductio ad absurdum argument form. But truth cannot be derived logically, merely by systematic form. In others words, logically speaking, if the premises of a valid argument are true, then the conclusion must also be true. However, how is the truth-value of premises determined? Ultimately, by observation. However, the reductio derives its conclusion on pure logical form, without observation. Here we have a classic example of philosophical sophistry, where the audience is duped into agreeing with a conclusion that is not verifiable, demonstrable, or falsifiable.

Some might question my assertion that truth does not exist, by asking if my assertion is true, but the same rebuttals to 'absolute truth' also apply. As a point of interest, existence is merely physical presence, or dimension with location. Truth does not have these qualities and therefore, does not exist. My statement is NOT an assertion of truth and whether it exists or not, but an explanation and definition, that is consistent and objective.

For any one interested in disputing the existence of truth, please provide an objective, consistent definition for existence and we can begin there...

Jesus was never mentioned in any Roman sources and there is no archeological evidence that Jesus ever existed. The Bible is NOT ABSOLUTE TRUTH.

Thank you and have a nice day.

"---GOD THE TRINITY AND GOD'S 10 COMMANDMENTS is absolute truth...Thankyou, and HAPPY New Year with Christ Jesus..."

Hey Normand, is God an object or concept? Is the Trinity an object or concept? This should be easy to determine if truth applies to objects or concepts, right?

The problem arises when we try to pin the notion of truth to objects, and then say we "discover" truth. But, does an object have the characteristic of 'truth'? It sounds nonsensical if we were to posit "the tree is true" or "running is true", but people don't seem to have a problem saying 'God is true'. This is not a consistent way of defining or using truth as a property of objects.

"Death is an absolute truth."

Nancy,'death' is what an object DOES, not what an object IS. This means that truth now applies to actions, like running, walking, sitting and laying. Does it make any sense to say that 'sleeping is an absolute truth'? I guess it would depend on your definitions of 'absolute','truth' and their conjunction.

Let me reiterate the last request I made in my previous post; please provide consist, consistent, objective definitions and we can begin to have a constructive narrative.

For reference, truth is just a function of language. It is used to determine if a sentence or proposition resolves to the world. Truth is not IN the world, but is a concept relating at least two or more objects.

Normand, so now we're "picking sides"? I thought this was a discussion regarding 'absolute truth'... Perhaps I was incorrect.

I did notice no one is able to provide a concise, consistent, clear definition of 'truth', though some people think my comments are 'clueless' and 'nuts'... and therefore 'not-truth'. I welcome ANY comments that lend themselves to rational and constructive narration.

I also noticed some people 'disagree' with my claims. That's fine. I am more than willing to amend, change or abandon any of the definitions and explanations I have provided. Simply provide your own. As long as the definitions and explanations are rational, clear, concise and consistent, I have no reservations for accepting different claims. It's easy, just provide definitions for the terms and fill in the blanks below:

exist:_________

object:_________

concept:________

truth:_________

absolute:_______

I will await your response so the constructive discussion may continue...
