I am starting this discussion because I have FAS and to let you know that there are people who have FAS do lead productive lives. By that I mean helping in the community, living on their own, and graduating from High School. The reason that I know this is because I am one of those people. Is there anyone else who would care to tell their story? If so please post a comment. I want the public to know that this is a problem for quite a few of us. I did struggle through school but I did graduate.

Thank you for starting this discussion. I have FAS and people don't understand me. They treat me like I'm stupid and I am not stupid. I'm having a hard time in school and kids still tease me. I want kids to know what its like having FAS.

Gina you are not stupid kids just don't understand our special needs they need to be educated in this sort of thing. I have talked with some of the middle school and high school kids and since I have done that the ones I did talk to have quit teasing others because they are different. They did come to me to talk one on one about what FAS is and what it does to a child. I'll be speaking at some of the schools in Rockford and I hope to see you.

Everybody struggles with something in their lives, but that can make us stronger so we might be able to help somebody else with it. I hope that this topic helps somebody.

I was told today that I am to smart for a person with FAS. Well I will have you know that I walk it and live it 24/7. I have a friend who has helped me become what I am today. She has taught me to speak up and fight for what I believe in and to also talk to teens about FAS and how the child is affected by it. I feel blessed because I have the privilege to talk with others about Fetal Alcohol Syndrome. I have also talked with a mother who has three adopted children who have FAS and FAE and I have given her hope for her children that they can succeed and go farther than high school. I know that some won't agree with this but I have seen it happen.

I was also called dumb and an idiot. Well I can assure you that I am not an idiot nor am I dumb. I know for a fact that there are people other than myself who have FAS that are living on there own and who have succeeded at doing what they had set out to do.

This forum was made so that those of you who have F.A.S can talk to others and learn from them as well. This is also for those of you who care for the ones who have F.A.S. This is also a sort of speak support group as well. I want you all to know that you don't have to be shy about this. I was at one time too until I met someone who taught me that it is ok to speak up.

I know that there are more people other than me who have F.A.S. and if you are scared that is ok. I was too until a friend of mine told me that it is ok to speak up and to let my voice be heard. We are all adults and can talk to one another and learn from one another. So please do not be afraid to speak out on this forum.

This is a very important topic to me. I really want those of you who have and who are taking care of those who have F.A.S to talk about how this has affected you and how you cope with this on a daily basis. I walk it and live it every day but I do live on my own and I do pay my bills. It wasn't easy for me growing up because I was made fun of every day in school. But that only made me stronger.

Maybe somebody is afraid to comment on here, but I believe that there might be something more that we don't know about. Maybe God has a bigger plan here.:)

Thank you so much for sharing this video it helped a lot. I also want to let you know that there is going to be a new group starting here that has to do with F.A.S and I am also looking into starting a charity for F.A.S. Thanks again for sharing this.

Well I am back again to let all of you know that those of us who struggle with F.A.S can get through this hard thing. I know because I am living proof of it. I am living on my own paying my own bills and also volunteering in my community. I am also in the process of starting a charity for F.A.S so I am very excited about it and like I said in my previous posts you guys can come forward and talk about this because this subject isn't to be taken lightly either and there are people out there who need to be educated about this and see what it can do to children and how it affects them as adults.

If anyone has any other video that is informative please share on here. We all need to be shown and reminded that even though there are people out there who have F.A.S because it can and will help us to see how others have progressed in certain things. For example I am living on my own and paying my own bills plus I talk to other people about it and it has changed their lives and ways of thinking.
