about 4 months ago i bought a over priced bath tub from a company called sanijet, located in coppell texas, outside of dallas, the man john booth, told me they were the safest tubs ever made. i bought a 7 thousand dollas pipeless tub. at first it was fine, then about a month later , the motors started making strange noises and while my son was in the tub, he got an electrical shock, at first he said it just tingled, 2 days later he is completelly deaf in his left ear. mr. john booth refused to send anyone to check out the motors { he already had my money} i got an electrician to look into it and found the motors to have been rigged up on the inside. the electrician said it was done on purpose . sanijet knew the danger but refused to fix it. i now have a lawyer involved in the matter.my son cries at night because he still feels the effect of the shock and because he deaf in 1 ear. i have spoken to many of sanijets satisfied customers { not really satisfied} and have worse stories, such as a man who cannot move his left hand after being shocked. after all six of the motors were opened , none of them were done correct. why does my son have to pay for sanijet's { john w. booth, president} mistake. buyer please beware.

mr. silva, this is not the courts. i am going to show these posts to my lawyer. you do not need to put this on the internet. we at sanijet, do have a great reputation, this is an isolated case. thus ends this forum discussion.

Sorry about your Son. You can sue on many levels here. Welcome to the ethicless corporate America
where company's get away with murder at the expense
of their customers and the gov't allows it. American workers and consumers alike are shoved aside for greed and have a grim future while companys reap record profits overseas in the name of self interest and allow the American way of life to be outsourced and downsized into poverty.
Needless to say I will never buy a sanijet product.

i am a sanijet customer . i bought a regular priced tub about a year ago, it worked fine the first 5 months. then the motors started to spark. i called their customer service and they were glad to help me. but they never did. many calls went unanswered , till i called the better business bureau, then like magic they were there for me. 2 months later 2 more motors burned up, and it looks like i'm stuck with a warranty plan that does nothing. please stay away from sanijet, it'll make your life a mess. save your money. this john w. booth is a big fat slob, who will say anything to sell his tubs.

Who the heck buys a $7,000.00 tub? Now they're having trouble with them? Can't get service? This is a joke. Why didn't you just buy a normal tub? Off to court, to sue the no good people that charge $7000.00 a tub. They both deserve each other.

Mr. Booth, some of what you say is correct, but in the way you said it, you told me all I need to know. I will stay far far away from Sanijet which, until now, I was considering - that's why I found this site.

Although the health issues of the son of the original post author are unfortunate they are extremely unlikely to have been caused by the bath tub in question for many reasons. First and foremost a tub of this type must be installed on a Ground Fault Interruption circuit which would immediately trip and remove all power if a true electrical short occurred (a properly installed and functioning GFI will remove power within milliseconds of detecting a fault current. Therefore, even if the tub motors were defective in some fashion the only reason a shock hazard would have occurred would have been due to improper installation with the tub itself having played a contributing role. So if someone is going to be subjected to a lawsuit it should be the installer. Second the original post has many questionable assertions. It begins by stating that the tub was overpriced which indicates the purchaser had a built in bias from the beginning, feeling that he was overpaying although it clearly did not stop him from making the purchase. Third, is the complete lack of details on the supposed defect which is described mysteriously as "motors having been rigged up on the inside". What does that mean? A court of law will demand considerably more detail about a defect than that. Additionally it would be very difficult for anyone, even an electrician (perhaps the same one who failed to install the tub properly on a GFI circuit in the first place) to determine whether something had been fabricated in error or on purpose. The fact that the electrician made such an dubious assertion indicates he is likely trying to deflect culpability from himself. Does it really make sense that a manufacturer would deliberately manufacture a product that leads to electrical shock? Such a business would not stay in business very long. As to whether a supposed electrical shock of the nature described in the post could deafness days after the event I will leave that determination to a medical expert. I would say if legal recourse is going to be taken in this case it would be advisable to start with whoever installed the tub as they would seem to have the highest probability of culpability in this situation. Perhaps the purchaser having felt that he overpaid for the tub tried to save money by hiring an electrician to install the tub who was unlicensed, unqualified, incompetent or all three. I can certainly understand the desire to "sue the tub manufacturer" but one would be advised to put a better story together than this one to have even a shred of a case.

Agreed, Watchdog -
I purchased a Sanijet years after meeting Mr. Booth in California way back when they were involved in legal heat with Jacuzzi, and have to admit, they are great tubs. My wife is diabetic and loves the cleanliness and ease of cleaning. We both HATED our old Jacuzzi that used to stink, wasted water, and needed constant cleaning.
Additionally, I believe improper installation was the key to what happened in the situation above. Everything in your bathroom should be on a GFCI, just like any outlet near your kitchen sink. If not, it's at the owner's risk to themselves. If it wasn't on the instructions, I could understand, but I really think that was on there.
Anyhow, as far as the tubs being overpriced - not really - look them up. They frequently have sales, and you can get a really premium tub for about $2500.

I have had a Sanijet tub for over five years. The product has performed perfectly from day one. All bathroom outlets and whirlpool/jetted type tubs are required by code to be protected by GFCI devices to protect from possible electrical shock. The inspector doing the electrical inspection of the installation would have checked for this. Permits, followed by inspections, for this type of work are to protect the consumer from shoddy work. Assuming all work was done correctly to code a shock would be unlikely unless the GFCI failed to trip, GFCI devices should be tested monthly.
