I have a Chevy Silverado 2500HD with a 6L gas motor with a automatic transmission. I have had an on going problem with the check engine light coming on followed by a REDUCED ENGINE POWER display. I have replaced the throttle body, had the wires re-connected and shrink-wrapped to the throttle body. I have replaced the PEDAL POSITION SWITCH. I still have problems with the engine shutting down and loss of power. I have to pull over and turn the motor off for a while and restart it only to have it happen again. I know I am not the only one with this problem. I think it is design flaw. I think the wires are too small and have too many poor quality connectors throughout the wire harness. If you know how to fix this problem, Please help me. My truck is my tool box for work! I have herd that many people have taken their trucks to the dealer only to have this problem return after heavy expenses. Can we get Chevrolet to acknowledge this problem and help us?

with computers onboard now the backyard mechanic is a thing of the past.....but maybe someone out there has an answer.

do you own the truck outright?

if so ,trading it in on a reliable truck is an option.

i drive a carburated non computerized truck even though i can afford a new truck....i own a $30,000 dollar harley vrod,so money is no problem....but i don't like computerized fuel injected vehicles that i need to rely on for work.i've owned my current work truck since 1985,the last non computerized and non fuel injected model year.

options for me would be ;

1] trade in your current vehicle for a "hopefully" more reliable one.

2]find an old truck thats been restored, or in great running condition.....try "ebay motors".

i have a 2003 surburban, same problem. just started this winter, i am told it is a computer problem, not mechanical. yes it is a flaw and they should recognize it. i also have the year vehicle with the gauges all messed up and wonder if that is a player, the tac is always pegged and oil gauge, might trick vehicle into thinking problems. also appears to be bigger trouble in cold weather, above 45 does not happen. if start on cold morning and let it warm up does not have problem either.
truly angers me and gm should be behind it.

I went to the GMC dealer with my 2003 Chevy 2500HD pickup and ask them to flash the computer and run diagenostics all to find a short in the Throttle body. I had the throttle body replaced and now the truck runs better than new. I feel having the computer flashed is an answer to the problem which I found out there is a tech bulletin to have this done. I have had the throttle body replaced three times in the last two years. I think GM should compensate me for those parts which totaled over $1,200.00

in the good ole days before computers in cars, your problem sounds like a over heated engine, you will lose power if waterflow is incorrect, internal engine temp. will slow it down.may sound crazy today but try changing thermostat to higher temp. an see what happens,it's cheap an easy to do yourself.

I have 2003 6.0 silverado and had the same issues as all of you took it to the dealer and had computer work done still no fix so I fixed it my self here is what I did. First replaced the knock sensors under the intake and the wire harness that runs to them. This solves the cold weather problem. Next replaced throttle body very easy to do save some money. Then I replaced the throttle pedal and haven't had a problem since been 5 months.

2003 silverado. 2 months ago I had this problem along with many others. I had the mass air flow changed, knock sensors and harnesses changed, and ignition switch. Two weeks later The Reduced power came back. Took it back to the dealership, they said my battery was bad. Replaced that. Now two months later it started again. It does it to me when I start it never during driving. Screw the dealership they are as lost as me can anyone help.

I have the same problem, but mine would fault when the truck hit bumps. The gauges all went wild and reduced engine power displayed on the dash. I looked it up in the owners manual, it said the reduced power comes into play when the motor is overheated. Mine was not hot, manual says the procedure to clear this was to change the oil, so I reset the oil life system and drove away normaly till the next bump. The problem turned out to be a ground wire connector on the back of the passenger side cylinder head. Yhe wire was broken inside of the insulation. Hope this helps

I feel GM should start backing up all the BS commercials they make. Many parts on these HD trucks break down way too soon. I have replaced my park brake release handle 3 times all original GM replacements. I finally had enough, I went to HomeDepot and bought a hevier duty cable and made my own assembly it was very simple to do. If you have to do this make sure you buy a 1/4" ID tube to slide the 1/16" cable through. Before disasembly notice the set up of the part you are replacing. You will also need some 1/16 cable ends that you crimp at the ends of cables. This replacement works smoother. Good luck

I also have a 2003 2500HD. I get the reduced engine power all the time. I clean the sensor even replaced the mass air flow sensor and it still does it. Seem everyone that has this truck has a problem I am thing a mass law suit with GM to make them do a recall on this. If everyone sends in to the attorney general. We can force GM to fix this mess.

I already sent my complaint into the Attorney General.

I have a 04 2500HD just started the reduced power 3 days ago.drove it to the garage it was fine, drove it home same thing. Went to use it and there's like a small jolt when it lets go and no power, down to an idle. Shut it off for a bit and it started but only went 1/4 mile, same thing. Had to drive it 20 mph home 5 miles. Does anyone really know what the problem is ? Seems like all this computer crap, you could know right away. I think all this computer junk for throttle etc is BS. I don't need a computer to push my gas pedal, I'm fine with linkage. Mad as Hell.

The reduced engine power damn near got me killed on an interstate! The truck just went to idle for no reason and it keeps happening. Our mechanic says turn off the truck, disconnect the battery , turn the key on and reconnect the battery while the key is on. That resets it but still won't fix the problem. With all this safety crap GM adds in and gov't requiring seat belts you'd think they would do something about this dangerous problem. I put the flashers on but of course they went out with the battery disconnected so in the middle of a highway the truck sat dead for a minute or two nearly causing accidents. I re attached the battery and it will be good for a week or 2 Get a class action suit and I'm in!- But I forgot that was the other GM that made this truck - now that it's Gov't Motors I guess there's nothing we can do

I too have one of these Chevy Trucks, its always something. If I drive over some real rough roads the power dies. It has a battery drain on it, I can buy a new battery and in two days the battery is dead. I traced it down to the radio, if you unplug the radio , no battery drain if you plug it in --dead battery. There has to be a diode in one of the trucks computers that is bad but, which one? I had the radio checked out and they said there was nothing wrong with it, so it has to be the wireing harness or the computer thing. I put in a new Radio Shack radio and direct wired it to the fuse bank. Its OK for now, it sure is a gas hog, tested the calatic converters and one was plugged. Went to GM with year and serial# got the right one and had a fabricator put it on. Runs quite better. But in all this truck is a pain--always something!
