The most common rationalization for the lack of scientific evidence is the "God must remain hidden" argument.

Many believers try to rationalize God's existence by saying something like this: "The existence of the universe proves God's existence. Something had to create the universe. Science has no explanation for the universe's creation. Therefore, God created it."

The way to understand that this is a rationalization is to look back in history. Ancient people, before they had science, explained many things that they did not understand with "gods." There have been sun gods, thunder gods, fertility gods, rain gods, etc.

The Bible works the same way. It tries to explain many things that its ancient authors did not understand by attributing them in God. For example, if you read Genesis 9:12-13 you will find this:

And God said, "This is the sign of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for all future generations: I set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be a sign of the covenant between me and the earth..."
This is the Bible's explanation of rainbows. Of course we now know that rainbows are a prismatic effect of raindrops. In the same way, Genesis chapter 3 tries to explain why human childbirth is so painful and Genesis chapter 11 tries to explain why there are so many human languages. These are myths, nothing more.
In the same way, Genesis chapter 1 contains the Bible's creation myth. The creation of the universe and life is attributed to God. We already know that God had nothing to do with the creation of life (click here), but religious people still try to attribute the creation of the universe to God.

The fact is, God had nothing to do with the creation of the universe, in the same way that God has nothing to do with the sun rising or rainbows appearing. Science does not have a complete explanation for the universe's creation, yet. While it is true that science does not yet know everything there is to know about the universe, scientists will eventually figure it out. When they do, what they will find is that nature created the universe, not an imaginary being.

This is a stupid post. Nobody can prove your god doesn't exist any more than you can prove your god does exist. If you believe in god then he exists. If you don't then he doesn't exist. Instead of picking another stupid religious fight why not just let it go.

So a rainbow is a prismatic effect of raindrops? It was God who created the raindrops and the sun giving it its effect.

You said "We already know that God had nothing to do with the creation of life (click here)" don't really understand the "click here" part but this is an untrue statement. "WE" don't know that you may think you know that but you don't.

You also said, "When they do, what they will find is that nature created the universe, not an imaginary being." Now you are the future of science? You know what they are going to find? Why don't you say scientists a lot of trouble and call them and tell them so they don't have to work so hard for something that you already know? How do you know that they aren't going to find out that God is real? But I agree with you, it wasn't an imaginary being that created the universe, it was GOD. Now prove me wrong.

Congrats, well said. This post is no more stupid than the one called "Prove There's a god" This was just to show people what you just said. Thank you very much. But there will probably be others on here that will fight you to the end on that. I believe He is real, and that is good enough for me. That's my concern. So many try to take that away from me. But they never will no matter how hard they try. I have been accused of being a bible thumper, a moron, and many names I do not care to mention just because I believe. But fact is I force no one, never tried to shove anything down someone's throat. But, many times have others tried to force me not to believe.

You say these things in the bible are myths, then prove they are if you are sure they are. I could understand if you said "I think" they are myths, but you said they are so you need to bring proof to the table if you want your words to to not be in vain.

Good post Desert Rat. Why is there such a need for some to prove the God does or doesn't exist? Just let everyone believe as this wish and let it go.

It is just as foolish to try and convince someone that feels as if they have experienced God that he doesn't exist as it is to convince someone that has not experienced God that he does.

And please people...your beliefs are yours...dont' try to make them someone elses.

Before a person can absolutely say that God doesn't exist, they first would have to have perfect knowledge of ALL things, and no one has that sort of knowledge. However for purpose of this argument, lets say we find a person who possesses 70% knowledge of ALL things, if such a person exists. This person who has 70% knowledge of ALL things states with certainty that there is no god. I then ask this person whether it might be possible that God might exist in the 30% that he/she doesn't know? The point is, no one can say with absolute certainty that God doesn't exist. Such a statement can only be taken by faith. The person who believes God exists, believes in His existence by faith, the same way a person who believes God doesn't exist, must also take his/her belief by faith no matter how long or how loudly the fundamental religious humanists and atheists may protest otherwise.

God didn't create raindrops. The sun evaportes water from the ocean, lakes and rivers into the air, then it comes back again in the form of rain. Same as god doesn't cause Earthquakes. The Earth has plates all over it, and when the plates hit one another or move quickly away from one another, that causes Eartquakes, and when they hit one another really hard, that's how mountains were created, volcanos too, and tidal waves come from the Earthquakes moving the Earth moving in oceans, it creates huge waves. While early man made up gods to deal with the unknown, scientists began to figure it all out. They may have one or two things not totally figured out yet, but just the discovery of DNA tells ya gods are not real, the part about chimps have 99.9 percent the same DNA as we do. Never mind the advances in medicine, study biology, scientists know what every part of every one of your cells is and what it does, study geology, you find out how mountains were created, etc. People go on and on about god only if they don't get the books, study humanities, study science, get the real information that is out there. Humans were here for millions of years before the Jesus stuff was made up. Life existed and evolved on Earth for over 300 billion years. Think about that. Yet, people like Joseph Smith started the Mormon religion in the 1900s, and sold it as real. Think how nuts it all really is.

Anyway, prove god is not real, which one? Is the god of Islam real? Is the Jewish god real? According to Christians, all of the other religions WERE made up by men, and only their's was not. Doesn't that sound kind of odd?? If all of the other religions were made up by men, are called false by Chritians, yet 70 percent of the world is not Christian, something is fishy if you ask me. Why didn't god stop the oil leak in the Gulf of Mexico speaking of fishy? Oh, I forgot, he was in the U.S. helping Christians find a parking spot close to the store they wanted to go into. Very important stuff. That proves there's a god. How come 27 million women and children are being held as slaves around the world and god doesn't do one thing about any of it? Maybe cause it's not real, it's told to folks in churches, but does it stop the 25,000 children who die in the world each day from starvation from dying? No, cause it doesn't exist. Humans are doing all of it, that's the problem. Churches should demand folks take college classes in science and humanities before they just blindly believe in religion.

To explain this better you need to understand logic. Your proposition is called argumentum ad ignorantiam (Argument from Ignorance)
Argumentum ad ignorantiam is a logical fallacy is where you assert your proposition is true simply because it hasn't been proven false or visa versa. Argumentum ad ignorantiam is used to shift the burden of proof. And that is exactly what your are trying to do.

Logical fail!

This is for people that say Hitler is a Christian. When Hitler began to "woo" the German people they were mainly Christian (70-75%). He gave lots of speeches about how he was "on a missions from God." It is a well known fact that the only God Hitler believed in was Hitler!! He was a master manipulator and for him to tell German people he wasn't a Christian would have been political suicide...duh. Take a look at the lyrics of a Hitler Youth song commonly sung AFTER he came to power.
"We are the joyous Hitler youth.
We do not need any Christian virtue
Our leader is our savior
The Pope and Rabbi shall be gone
We want to be pagans once again…”
-Horst Weisel Hitler YouthSong

He was NOT a Christian!! Like many mass murders, he hid behind religion to serve his own devious purpose. His plan was to take over the world, set up a pagan master race and return the world to what he viewed was its ideal natural state; a world “unpolluted” by Jewish ideas and Jewish off-shoots such as Christianity. The words of the Hitler Youth song make this very clear!! Anybody who has even half-ass studied Hitler knows this!! So, look it up yourselves and quit saying he was Christian because that is false.
