11. Stress entities that come in when one is ill, malnourished or hungry, dehydrated, angry, resentful or depressed. This is unfortunate, but whenever the body is out of balance, it is far easier for certain entities to attach themselves to that body. This is an important reason to always keep yourself well hydrated, well-fed, well-rested and relaxed as much as possible.

Many people, for example, go on a vacation to relax. However, the trip is stressful, the food is not as good as home-cooked, one drinks some alcohol, perhaps, and stays up late because one does not have to go to work the next day, and perhaps has more sex than usual. The result is entity attachment, that can remain for years.

12. Meatless-related entities. This will sound odd, but eating meat blocks the entrance or attachment of some types of entities. One may call these vegetarian entities. In other words, if one does not eat red meat, in particular, certain entities find it easy to enter the head area, in particular. This occurs with many vegetarians, who find themselves less able to think clearly, for example.

This is an important reason to eat red meat at least twice or three times weekly, and it is another danger of vegetarian diets. It is particularly important in blood type O people, who need more red meat, in general, than others. Eating eggs, cheese, milk, or yogurt will not help. One must eat meat, particularly red meats such as lamb. It is part of the special reasons why lamb is used in Jewish and some Christian and other religious feasts and ceremonies. It is a method of exorcism or entity release.

FACTORS THAT INFLUENCE HOW ENTITY ATTACHMENT AFFECTS A PERSON

· The temperament of the host soul. Some people handle entity possession far better than others. This has to do with one’s state of health, one’s maturity level, the balance of the personality and other subtle factors. In one case, it might not cause much of an effect, while in someone else it can cause frank schizophrenic tendencies, intense confusion or anger, or other symptoms.

· The temperament and personality of the invading soul. Attachment of a fairly benign and advanced soul may cause few problems, and as explained in the section above, the experience can be positive one. However, if the invading soul is infantile, very angry or very mischievous, then the problems it can cause are far more severe.

· The age of a person at the time of attachment. If it occurs at a very young age, it usually causes more havoc than when it occurs in an adult, for instance, although this is not necessary the case.

· The age of death of the invading soul’s body, or state of maturity of the invading soul. The invading soul may have died as a child, and this will cause often infantile effects in the host soul. If, however, the invading soul was old at the time it entered the host soul, the host may develop symptoms of aging at a very young age such as blurred vision, aches and pains, etc. In other words, the ailments and thinking of the invading soul matter a lot.

· Degree of possession. Attachment by an entity can be very mild or peripheral, or it can be very intense. This has to do with various factors such as where the invading soul is, the time of attachment, the strength or power of the invading soul, and the strength and health of the host soul, among other factors.

For example, if the host is weak, it is far easier for an invading soul to take a firm hold and be difficult to remove. If a host uses drugs, even marijuana, it is far easier for an invading soul to take hold and the hold is deeper and harder to eliminate.

· Sex of the invading entity. This can cause odd effects of all kinds. The invading entity may be interested in those of the same or the opposite sex, and may exert a strong influence on the person.

The only way to find the truth is to have an entity clearing so that the living host can end any confusion due to invading entities. This is often difficult because the host may be weak and there can be a slew of entities to remove. Nutritional balancing is most helpful here, to strengthen the host. Indeed, occasionally a person changes their sexual preference on a nutritional balancing program, and this is one reason for it.

THE EFFECTS OF SOUL ATTACHMENT

These are many. I will just outline a few of the major types of effects:

Addictions. This is a very important effect of soul possession or entity attachment,(a better word for it). The invading soul usually wants more power over the host soul. If the invading soul can convince the host soul to drink alcohol or use psychoactive drugs, including marijuana, the invading soul will have an easier time controlling the host’s body and mind. Anyone who thinks that marijuana is benign please re-read the sentence above.

The invading soul usually does not care if the host’s body or mind are destroyed by the drugs, alcohol, cannabis or perhaps other items that alter the mind, including even eating too much sugar, junk food or using a lot of caffeine. The invading entity only cares that these things weaken the host so the invading entity has more power over you.

Confusion. This is another primary effect of soul attachment of any kind. For example, after such an entity attaches to oneself, one may start having thoughts that seem very foreign. One may even believe one is hearing unusual voices, feeling unusual feelings, or struggling in some way that is very odd. A man may start feeling like he is female, an adult may start feeling like a child, and so on. All types of confusion can arise, as explained in the next few paragraphs.

Physical symptoms. An invading soul carries memories of illnesses and is often damaged itself. Therefore, one may suddenly develop aches and pains that are unusual and cannot be traced to any kind of simple cause. Obesity, for example, is one type of problem that is often, though certainly not always associated with soul attachment. If this is the cause, the symptoms usually vanish rapidly with depossession, also called exorcism or entity removal.

Mental and emotional symptoms and psychosis. Entity attachment can result in any mental ailment or psychosis. One may wonder why someone would murder innocent children at a school, for example. The answer is often toxic metals in the brain, and in most cases the use of anti-depressant drugs such as Prozac and the others.

However, the mechanism may be that toxic metals, a junk food diet, and especially medical drug use by teens and young adults can open a person to entity attachment by weakening the body and mind.

Indeed, this is one of the worst features of so-called modern or conventional allopathic medicare. Nutrition and healthy living habits are hardly mentioned, and meanwhile poisonous drugs are doled out with impunity to babies, children and adults that weaken the body and mind. This is a sure prescription for entity attachment.

Other common symptoms include depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, schizophrenia and other ailments. Rarely, one may have violent or even suicidal thoughts if the entity or soul who enters the body harbors these thoughts or perhaps wants to harm you.

It is possible, though not likely, that an invading soul will attempt to kill its host. Usually, the invading soul enjoys being inside another person, so it does not wish harm to the person, but anything is possible. One way that nutritional balancing amazingly can heal severe mental illness such as suicidal thoughts, violence and more may be by improving the vitality of the body and mind of a person so that an invading entity is forced to leave. When this happens, one’s physical or mental illness can vanish literally overnight. The lack of attention and interest in the concept and operational methods of enhancing a person’s vitality or adaptive energy level in the conventional and even holistic medical communities is another of their weaknesses and a cause for exploding health care costs. Sexual problems. These are common with entity attachment. It may be due to immature entities that attach to people and cause the problems. Common effects may include low libido or lack of sexual interest, excessively high sex drive, impotence, frigidity, cross-dressing, promiscuity, voyeurism, exhibitionism, preoccupation with the body, pedophilia (a desire for sex with children), and other sexual aberrations.

In fact, this is a common way in which children are traumatized sexually.

For example, children often hate their parents when they are just touched inappropriately. This simple misstep on the part of a parent or sibling can cause entity attachment.

Just seeing Mom or Dad naked in bed, for example, or having sex with each other can cause entity attachment.

A formerly sexually innocent child all of a sudden is much more interested in sex, becoming promiscuous or wanting to masturbate a lot, for example. All the child can do is trace it back to the “incident”, which now feels like a rape because it changed one’s life. In fact, it was just an incident that caused a mischievous entity to attach to the child, and the entity is causing the sexual problem.

Other identity and relationship problems. Another type of confusion that arises involves one’s identity and relationships with others. One may find oneself strangely attracted to people one was formerly not interested in. Also, one may find oneself avoiding some people whom one was formerly quite interested in, for example. Identity confusion can extend to one’s interests and hobbies, interest in work or family, or other aspects of a person’s identity. The reason is that one’s identity becomes confused with the identity of the invading entity.

For example, a person who experiences entity attachment may find himself or herself with new interests and hobbies, while established hobbies, activities and routines may now seem unusual and less comfortable. This is extremely odd to the person, and often even more so to one’s family and friends. A person who hated cigarette smoke or marijuana may suddenly start smoking, for example, or a person who avoided bars and the social scene now wants to spend time in bars and lounges. It can damage relationships terribly, and often counselors and psychologists are at a complete loss to explain it.



Cult behavior. Entity attachment can also explain why someone goes to a cult meeting, for example, or is raped, and suddenly wants to join the cult and no one can talk the person out of it, even though the person was formerly very rational.

Perhaps an entity attached that likes the cult with its sex, drugs or hatred of foreigners, or whatever. Or perhaps going to a meeting is enough, in some cases, for a person to be attacked and invaded by entities that the cult members share in some way.

This is an important reason to avoid suspicious people, harmful events like loud rock concerts, drug-laden parties, and even many spiritual groups that engage in events and behaviors that “wear you down” in some way, or preach vegetarian or other deficient diets, or have people perform sex together, or in any way weaken people even in the name of God or country or anything else.



No problems. Lest this section seem overly negative, I remind the reader that, at times, attaching entities are benign, and perhaps even beneficial. They can even improve a person’s personality in some cases, and help to keep other harmful entities out. Symptoms of illness or addiction may go away when a benign entity comes in and begins to influence the soul of the person.

For example, a person may pray sincerely, day after day, for release from a bad habit such as promiscuity, alcohol or drugs. One day, the person wakes up and habit is mysteriously gone. What may happen is that one entity leaves and another enters who is benign and more advanced. This can also happen at a prayer circle or some kind of meeting, as explained below.



ENTITY REMOVAL AND HOW IT IS ACCOMPLISHED



Entity removal, or sometimes it is called de-possession or exorcism is the removal of the attached soul. It is not always an easy process. Many methods can be used, as follows:

Christian or biblical methods. The Hebrew and Christian bibles contain several passages describing entity attachment. One of the main types of miracles that were performed by Jesus, and later by his disciples, was the removal of “demons and devils” from people.

Christians are among the most successful with de-possession. Often one can watch this phenomenon on Christian television. A person walks up onto the stage with a stiff neck or a limp. The priest or preacher says certain prayers and perhaps others hold the person. All of a sudden, the person collapses in the pastor’s arms and when he awakens in a few seconds or more, the symptom is better or even all gone.

Jesus of Nazareth spoke often about “possession” by devils and demons. He appears to have understood this phenomenon better than almost anyone else among mankind’s teachers. He recommended private prayer, prayer groups or prayer circles, fasting, cleansing the body with healthful diets, and even the use of enemas and other simple means to cause entity release. Other sections of this article may help to explain why these methods work. Incidentally, do not do fasting, in my opinion, for more than a day or two at the most. Today, fasts make people’s already nutrient-deficient bodies much more deficient and the results are not good!



Psychotherapy. Some talented psychologists can help remove extra souls and hidden souls by talking to them directly. This may sound unusual, and it is. However, it is an ability that some people seem to have.



Hypnosis. Once in a while, a talented hypnotist can gain access to the hidden invading soul through a hypnotic trance. Then the hypnotist talks with the invading soul and convinces it to leave. Often the invading soul is not given much of a choice because the hypnotist promises to tell the host soul what to do if the invading soul refuses to leave. Many are happy to leave and were just waiting for someone to help them. Some, however, are reluctant because they are enjoying the ride too much, or may even have a protective role and are needed, even if the hypnotist does not understand this.



The use of pendulums, muscle testing or kinesiology, or electronic machines. These are sometimes highly successful, but often not so. They work by a variety of methods. For example, one can send frequencies into a person’s body that an invading soul finds distasteful and the invader will then leave.



Love. Interestingly, loving a person enough can cause an invading entity to leave. This is a secret of some doctors’ and counselors “bedside manner”, perhaps. The entity finds that things are getting too ‘hot’ or uncomfortable, and just leaves. Sometimes the doctor or counselor or nurse apparently takes on the entity and saves the life of a weaker person who could not shake off the harmful entity in this way. This is why one must never mock or underestimate the effect of human love, parents love for a child, for example, brotherly love or love between spouses or even among strangers. It is a most powerful force when harnessed and understood well. Other articles on this website such as Love, And How To Discern It, discuss this all-important subject.



Shamanism. This is an older science of soul recovery and soul retrieval used by the native Americans and most other indigenous tribes around the world. Most of them were and are aware of soul possession and have evolved techniques to remove entities. It can be a specialty area of some shamans and medicine men.

They may use herbs, rituals, talking therapy, sounds, chants and other methods to extract invading souls. This is not a Western method and should be avoided, usually, as it can be dangerous if not done well. For example, an invading soul could be made very angry and take action to harm the host soul. Please be very careful with shamans, many of whom are not well trained enough and some of whom are charlatans who easily take advantage financially and otherwise of gullible Westerners.



Electrical or other types of machines and devices. This is another dangerous area. While electrical gadgets and machines can, in fact, cause de-possession, they are usually unreliable. Please be careful with anyone who claims to use electrical devices for de-possession.



Spiritual development. This is discussed in the section below. It is notable because it is the only permanent method of de-possession.



Other. I once went to a well-respected acupuncturist in Phoenix and when I left, I noticed I did not feel right. I happened to go for a swim in a pool later that day, and when I got in the water, I distinctly felt something leave my body. When I left the pool I noticed I was feeling better. Most likely I had an accidental de-possession.

I ignored the episode and about two weeks later returned to the acupuncturist. This doctor worked on several people at a time and did not wash his hands between patients. When I came home, again I did not feel good. I recalled the earlier incident, and decided to take a swim again. Once again, when I entered the pool, I distinctly felt something leave the body and when I emerged from the pool felt much better.

This may have been a de-possession. Water has traditionally been used for this purpose. The entity is attracted to the water for some reason. I wonder if baptism may have once involved de-possession or clearing of entities.



THE PROBLEM OF REATTACHMENT



Although one may clear a discarnate with any of the methods above, the invading soul returns or another one invades. As a result, the host person reverts to their previous health condition or habit such as drug use or something else. This is a terrible problem on earth. The only method that is foolproof is to develop oneself mentally and spiritually in a particular way. This topic is discussed in great detail in other articles on this website under the heading of Spiritual Development. It is also discussed in less detail below.

Factors that seem to contribute to reattachment. These include poor health, fatigue, illnesses, depression or a yin condition of the body in Chinese medical terminology. Another unusual factor is a lack of grounding and centering. It is as though some people “invite” discarnates into their lives, while others do not do this as much.

This could be a karmic or past life situation, or it may occur for some other reason. Even the particular brain structure or way of life of a person may contribute. Another factor is what some call “holes in the aura field”. These are really just areas of less density and often less vital minerals. For some reason, entities can enter in these places more easily.

Other risk factors for repossession include the same ones as those listed above, such as spending time in hospitals, bars, brothels, or cemeteries, and using alcohol or drugs of all kinds.



NUTRITIONAL BALANCING AND DE-POSSESSION



Nutritional practitioners occasionally observe radical changes in a client in a short time that cannot be explained as nutritional effects alone.

For example, a long-standing problem may suddenly disappear overnight, and remain gone forever after. This might be due to clearing out a nutritional deficiency or a toxic metal.

However, it is also possible that somehow the diet and nutrients caused the release of an entity. Nutritional balancing is not designed as a method of de-possession. However, it may encourage it by several means:



1. Strengthening the host body. The invading soul usually has a much harder time remaining in the healthier host body. Often the invading soul, at some point, decides it is not worth staying, or not fun any more, and just leaves.



2. Balancing the oxidation rate. This definitely empowers the host, which diminishes the power and control of the invading soul. This occurs most likely because balancing the oxidation rate and the major mineral ratios at a cellular level clear many toxic metals, infections, and other things that weaken the host. Also, it enhances adaptive energy or vitality of the host person.



3. Balancing yin and yang. Yin and yang are Chinese words meaning cold and hot, expanded and contracted. They are physics qualities of bodies and of other things.

Most people’s bodies are very yin today for many reasons including their diets, lifestyles, radiation toxicity, and the presence of toxic metals and chemicals in the environment. Nutritional balancing is excellent to help restore this balance, which may also make it harder for invading entities to gain access and remain in one’s body. Eventually, as the body becomes even more yang, invading souls may be forced to leave, as they are not compatible with a yang host in almost all cases.

4. Enhancing mental functioning. This can allow the host soul to figure out that something is wrong and this, alone, often derails the invading soul enough that it leaves. In other words, it cannot thrive when it has been discovered, so to speak.

The host soul often also gains much more insight about what it wants from life. This strengthens the identity of the host soul greatly, which makes it more difficult for entities to remain with it.

5. Coffee enemas. This detoxification procedure that we often recommend, in particular, seem to honor the host soul and detract from the power and influence of an invading soul. I do not know how this effect occurs, but am told it is so.

6. Other procedures such as the near infrared sauna, and perhaps all sauna therapy, seems to favor the host and detract or hinder invading souls.

7. Mental or spiritual development. As the host soul develops mentally, which occurs often if a person stays with a nutritional balancing program for a few years, in most cases, invading souls simply cannot hold on, and are forced to leave.

This is a slower way to remove discarnates. However, I believe it is far more permanent, and this is a great benefit. It appears to happen automatically with a properly designed nutritional balancing program.

All other methods of de-possession suffer from the problem that one can become invaded again, and it happens often. However, once the host soul has advanced to a certain degree, which is not hard to do with nutritional balancing science, invading souls appear to no longer be able to enter, or if they do enter, they cannot stay in the host’s body for long. This can be a key to health and well-being. It is an important reason why I prefer nutritional balancing science to many other methods of healing such as drugs, homeopathy, herbs, vitamins and others.

OTHER NATURAL HEALING METHODS

Some natural healing methods, to some degree, help protect a person from entity possession. Invading entities generally find it much easier to enter a weak, dying, yin, malnourished, toxic body than a healthy one. Please recall this principle as it is another key to avoiding entity possession and repossession if one expels an entity. However, beware and avoid yoga, tai chi and other oriental arts. These do not seem helpful at this time.

HAIR MINERAL PATTERNS ASSOCIATED WITH SOUL ATTACHMENT AND REMOVAL

This is a newer research area. However, There appear to be mineral patterns on a hair analysis that are more associated with entity possession. They include:

Phosphorus less than 13.
Sodium/potassium ratio less than about 1.
Zinc less than about 13
Manganese less than about 0.006
Copper above about 20, in many cases
Nickel above about 0.06
Cadmium above about 0.006
Lead above about 0.015
Four highs in some cases, and it is usually a male entity when it is an entity.

Entity removal. Also, there appear to be hair mineral patterns that occur when entities leave the body due to a nutritional balancing program, or even due to other circumstances. So far, they may include:

1. A shift from three highs, four highs or some wrong two highs patterns into slow oxidation on a retest. When this occurs vigorously, it may be called a crash landing pattern. One may feel exhausted for a few days, at least.

2. A dramatic rise in zinc and phosphorus on a retest.

3. Other healing reactions of all types. Many, but not all reactions involve entity removal. This complicates the picture and, at times, can produce almost any symptom imaginable. Often the symptoms include irritability or nervousness.

Correctly Interpreting 1 Corinthians 14:33b-35 (Part 1)

If you ever wish to see a gathering of Evangelifish gnash their teeth and rend their garments as in olden times, all you need do is stand before them and quote with enthusiasm the biblical text,“women should remain silent in the churches.” Correctly applying this passage is quite a challenge, in large part due to the explosive nature of the topic. Taken from 1 Corinthians 14:33b-35, the entire offending passage reads:“As in all the congregations of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches. They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission, as the Law says. If they want to inquire about something, they should ask their own husbands at home; for it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church.”

1 Corinthians 14:33b-35 must not be studied in isolation. Its proper interpretation will necessarily harmonize with the rest of Scripture. It has been suggested that the correct place to begin is not with this passage at all, but rather back in 1 Corinthians 11a (regulations concerning head coverings during prayer and prophecy). Indeed, the ideal starting point is the first chapter of Genesis. Accordingly, before reading this article on silence, it may be best to first read the NTRF articles “Sisters In Service” and “Women As Teachers & Prophets.” That said, what is the correct application of 1 Corinthians 14:33b-35?

1. The command is crystal clear. This one paragraph states four different ways that women are not to address the church:
A.“women should remain silent in the churches”
B.“they are not allowed to speak”
C.“they should ask their husbands at home”
D.“it is a disgrace for a woman to speak in the church”

According to The Expositor’s Bible Commentary,“women were not to speak in public worship (33b-36)... The command seems absolute: Women are not to do any public speaking in the church”(Vol 10, pp. 275-276).

B.B. Warfield wrote that “precisely what the apostle is doing is forbidding women to speak at all in the church ... It would be impossible for the apostle to speak more directly or more emphatically than he has done here. He requires women to be silent at the church meetings; for that is what ‘in the churches’ means, there were no church buildings then”(“Women Speaking in the Church,” The Presbyterian, Oct. 30, 1919, pp. 8-9).

Gordon Fee, in his commentary on this passage, opined that “despite protests to the contrary, the ‘rule’ itself is expressed absolutely. That is, it is given without any form of qualification. Given the unqualified nature of the further prohibition that ‘the women’ are not permitted to speak, it is very difficult to interpret this as meaning anything else than all forms of speaking out in public ... the plain sense of the sentence is an absolute prohibition of all speaking in the assembly”(p. 706-707).

2. It applies to “all” churches. That women were “silent” in all first century church meetings everywhere (and not just Corinth) is evident from the way the paragraph begins,“As in all the churches of the saints, women should remain silent in the churches”(14:33b). W. Harold Mare pointed out that 14:33b “emphasizes the universality of the Christian community. All the churches are composed of saints (those set apart for God), and should be governed by the same principle of orderly conduct”(The Expositor’s Bible Commentary, Vol. 10, p. 276).

Warfield put it this way,“‘It is not permitted’ is an appeal to a general law, valid apart from Paul’s personal command, and looks back to the opening phrase –‘as in all the churches of the saints.’ He is only requiring the Corinthian women to conform to the general law of the churches. And that is the meaning of the almost bitter words that he adds in verse 36, in which – reproaching them for the innovation of permitting women to speak in the churches – he reminds them that they are not the authors of the Gospel, nor are they its sole possessors: let them keep to the law that binds the whole body of churches and not be seeking some newfangled way of their own.”

The Greek tense behind “should remain silent” is a present imperative, which generally commands the continuation of an existing condition, thus “keep on remaining silent”(Beginner’s Grammar of the Greek New Testament, New York: Harper & Row, Publishers, W.H. Davis, p. 168). This indicates that the women in Corinth, as well as all other churches, were already silent. This was not a new command; they were merely being confirmed in what they were already doing.

It should be remembered that Paul himself had founded the church in Corinth. He stayed with them about two years, teaching and making disciples. He orally, in person, had already instructed them about the proper roles for men and women within the church. They knew, before he ever penned his letter to them, exactly what he had taught about women addressing the gathered church.

The New Covenant brought new freedom and liberty not found in the Old Covenant. Rather than special dietary restrictions, now all food is clean. Rather than just Hebrews being God’s people, under the New Covenant all believers, Jew and Gentile alike, are God’s people. Rather than just male Levitical priests, now all believers, men and women, are priests. After his departure, the Corinthians had written Paul many questions (7:1) about their new liberties in Christ. Evidently, some in Corinth also questioned Paul’s previously given verbal instructions about the proper role of the sisters in a church meeting. The letter to the Corinthians is his response to their queries.
3.“Women” are not always “brothers.” In many contexts the word brothers can refer to both men and women. Other times, it refers only to believing men (as it clearly does in 1 Corinthians 7:29, 9:5). It is a fluid term. Some argue that in 1 Corinthians 14,“brothers” refers to both men and women. Is this the case? The readers, throughout 1 Corinthians 14, are addressed as either “brothers” or “you”(second person pronoun). However, there is a significant pronoun shift from “you” to “they”(third person pronoun) in the paragraph concerning women (14:33b-35). Rather than writing,“women ... you”, the text states,“women ... they.” Why did Paul not write directly to the sisters, if they were included in the term brothers?
This pronoun shift can be easily accounted for if the word brothers throughout 1 Corinthians 14 refers primarily to the men. The women were thus referred to in third person, since they are written about, rather than directly addressed. When it is stated that all, anyone, or each one of the “brothers” can participate in the interactive meeting (14:26), it may specifically be men who are meant. Women (“they”) are not to make comments designed for the whole church to hear. Interestingly, the textus receptus adds the word “your” before “women” in 14:34, further evidence that the term brothers throughout 1 Corinthians 14 specifically referred to the men and not the women.
Since Paul had no hesitation about addressing women directly in other of his letters (for instance Euodia and Syntyche in Php 4:2), the fact that he did not here makes the case above all the more compelling. Again quoting Fee,“all the previous directions given by the apostle, including the inclusive ‘each one’ of v. 26 and the ‘all’ of v. 31, were not to be understood as including women.”(New International Commentary on the New Testament: The First Epistle To The Corinthians, Grand Rapids: Eerdmans Publishing p. 706).
For the sake of argument, suppose that the sisters were indeed included in the word brothers. It would parallel the case of a man gifted with tongues. In 1 Corinthians 14:26, everyone of the brothers is said to be able to contribute a tongue. Reading this, the tongue-speaking man would anticipate the free exercise of his gift. Yet, in 14:28, the tongue speaker is informed that if no interpreter is present, he must keep silent and not speak in tongues. The chapter is still written to him, for he is a true brother, and the truth of participatory meetings still applies, but his contribution to the meeting would be limited. The same holds true for the prophets (if a revelation comes to another, the first prophet should stop). Would God give a prophet a prophecy that the prophet was not free to deliver? Evidently so, based on the inspired text (“the first speaker should stop” and “the spirits of prophets are subject to the control of prophets”). Finally, the same would hold true for the women also, even if they are counted among the brothers, who then learn in 14:33b-35 that they are not to speak to the church at all.

4.“Silent” really does mean silent. The word behind “silent” is sigao, defined in BAGD’s lexicon as “be silent, keep still, say nothing.” There exists a much less harsh term, hesuchia, which primarily means “quiet” in the sense of tranquil (used in 2Th 3:12 & 1Ti 2:11-12). However, hesuchia is not used here. The women were to be silent (sigao) with respect to speaking during the 1 Corinthians 14 meeting.

This same word, sigao, is used throughout 1 Corinthians 14. Those who speak in tongues are to be silent (sigao) when no interpreter is present (14:28). They are not to address the church at all with respect to delivering a tongue. Anyone who speaks prophecies is to be silent (sigao) if another person receives a revelation (14:30). He is not to prophesy any longer. Similarly, all the women are to be silent (sigao) in the assembly. They are not supposed to address the church.
5. The silence is limited to speaking. As pointed out above, the same Greek word translated “silent”(sigao) in 14:34 is also used with reference to the tongues speakers (14:28) and prophets (14:30). Each time sigao is used in 1 Corinthians 14, it is carefully qualified (limited in scope). So too with the women’s silence: it is qualified by the word “speak.” The Holy Spirit easily could have added,“they are not permitted to speak in judgment of prophecies,” or “they are not permitted to speak a teaching.” Instead He said,“they are not permitted to speak.” Thus, women are to remain silent with respect to speaking to the assembled church. The context is clear about what is being regulated: situations where only one person is up addressing the whole church (“one at a time,” 14:27 & “in turn,” 14:31). The silence requirement would therefore not apply to congregational singing, whispered comments not intended for the whole church, laughing, playing an instrument, chatting during the fellowship of the Lord’s Supper, etc.

6.“Speak” refers to public statements. From laleo,“speak” is used throughout 1 Corinthians 14 primarily with reference to those who would speak (laleo) publicly to the assembled church (with a teaching, an interpretation, etc.). In fact, the solution for a would-be public tongue speaker (with no interpreter present) is for him to instead laleo privately to himself and to God (14:28). Such private laleo is encouraged, not condemned. Thus the regulations throughout 1 Corinthians 14 primarily concern instances of public laleo, not private laleo. Similarly, Paul is not here prohibiting private laleo (conversation) between two women in 14:33b-35, but rather public laleo. Thus in this context, laleo (14:34) does not likely refer primarily to idle, thoughtless private babble nor to inconsiderate and distracting private chatting (though such would also be inappropriate). Instead, that which is being prohibited is public speaking intended for the whole church to hear.
Dr. Mare commented that “some have explained the apostle’s use of the word “speaking”(v.34) as connoting only general speaking and not forbidding a public address. But this is incompatible with Paul’s other uses of “speaking” in the chapter (vv.5, 6, 9, et al.), which imply public utterances as in prophesying (v.5)”(p. 276).
Warfield noted that:“It requires to be said at once that there is no problem with reference to the relations of laleo and lego. Apart from niceties of merely philological interest, these words stand related to one another just as the English words speak and say do; that is to say, laleo expresses the act of talking, while lego refers to what is said. Wherever then the fact of speaking, without reference to the content of what is said, is to be indicated, laleo is used, and must be used. There is nothing disparaging in the intimation of the word, any more than there is in our word talk; although, of course, it can on occasion be used disparagingly as our word talk can also – as when some of the newspapers intimate that the Senate is given over to mere talk. This disparaging application of laleo, however, never occurs in the New Testament, although the word is used very frequently.
The word is in its right place in 1 Corinthians 14:33ff, therefore, and necessarily bears there its simple and natural meaning. If we needed anything to fix its meaning, however, it would be supplied by its frequent use in the preceding part of the chapter, where it refers not only to speaking with tongues (which was divine manifestation and unintelligible only because of the limitations of the hearers), but also to the prophetic speech, which is directly declared to be to edification and exhortation and comforting (verses 3-6). It would be supplied more pungently, however, by its contrasting term here –‘let them be silent’(verse 34). Here we have laleo directly defined for us:‘Let the women keep silent, for it is not permitted to them to speak.’ Keep silent – speak: these are the two opposites; and the one defines the other.”

7. Silence is an act of submission.“They are not allowed to speak, but must be in submission”(14:34). For a woman to teach, judge a prophecy or dispute with a teacher would clearly not be speaking from a position of submission. Indeed, such is expressly prohibited in 1 Timothy 2:11-12. However, the inspired text goes even further in 1 Corinthians 14, and associates any public speaking by a woman in a church meeting as an non submissive activity. Head coverings, in 1 Corinthians 11a, are said to be a mere “sign” of submission to authority. Silence, in 1 Corinthians 14, is said to be an act of submission.

8. Submission, not silence, is an Old Testament principle. An appeal is made for the women to be submissive “as the Law says”(14:34). The word “Law” can refer specifically to Mosaic legislation. It can also refer to the entirety of the Hebrew Scriptures. It is so used here. The silence of women is not what the Law teaches. However, as is clear from the tenor of the Hebrew Scriptures, starting with creation, women are to be submissive to their husbands. Men were the leaders in both Hebrew society and religion (e.g., only men could be priests, the vast majority of the prophets were male, all the writing prophets were men, in the few historical examples where women did prophesy to men they did so in a more private setting, most of the political leaders were men, families were patriarchal, vows made by a wife could be revoked by her husband, Deborah rebuked Barak for wanting a woman to help him lead, etc.). Thus, the submission of the women, as expressed in 1 Corinthians 14 by their silence, is consistent with God’s truth revealed throughout the Old Testament.

9. Even inquiries are prohibited. Asking a question is the opposite of making a statement, yet even this is declared to be out of order in 14:35. Instead, women should “ask their own husbands at home.” Why? Because “it is disgraceful for a woman to speak in the church”(14:35). If Paul, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, declares a certain activity to be “disgraceful,” then it is as if Christ Himself were declaring it to be disgraceful. Ultimately, how do we know what pleases our Lord unless He tells us? In God’s household, it is disgraceful for a woman to speak to the gathering of the church.

During the outpouring of the Spirit at Pentecost, both men and women may have prophesied and supernaturally spoke in other languages. This resulted in a great number of conversions as people heard the gospel in their own language. Women may evidently pray in prayer meetings and speak or prophesy at evangelistic events. However, during the regular, weekly, Lord’s Day meetings of the whole church they are not to speak out publicly.

10.“Disgrace”(14:35) does not mean “obscene.” In an apparent effort to make a face value reading of the command for silence to appear improbable, some have suggested that the proper translation here should be “obscene.” They then cry,“Our sister’s voices are not obscene!” The simple fact is that the Greek underlying “disgrace”(1 Corinthians 14: 35) does not mean “obscene.”“Obscene” is too strong a word.“Disgrace” is from aischros (#150), defined by the lexicon as “shame, ugly, base.” Aischros is used other places in the Bible with reference to dishonest gain (Tit 1:11), of women with short hair and of men with long hair (1 Corinthians 11:6). I could not find a lexicon that suggested it fundamentally means “obscene.” In essence, those who say such erect and knock over a straw man in an attempt to make this biblical command seem ridiculous and not possibly of apostolic origin.

Prayer Destroying Curses (Affirmations)

Heavenly Father I ask You to forgive me for all of my sins, transgressions, iniquities, trespasses, and any un-forgiveness I have in my heart for anyone at this time. Heavenly Father I believe that You are the Son of God, and the Only Way to God, that You died on the cross for my sins and rose again from the dead. I give up all my rebellion and all my sin and I submit to You as my Lord and Savior. I turn to You Lord Jesus for mercy. From now on I want to be totally obedient to You and to Your Word.
