13. The Spirit of Jealousy. The prophetic gifting as one of the supernatural and visible gifts can easily be idolized. Prophetic people can often become jealous of each other. Do you envy the gifts of others? Do you secretly rejoice when other ministries fail?

14. Sexual Immorality. The Corinthian church also had problems in sexual temptation and so do prophetic people. John Paul Jackson gives great wisdom in this regards.

Any ministry can fall prey to any sin, but prophetic people seem to be especially prone to sexual sin. Perhaps one reason is because of the heightened sensitivity that comes with the prophetic gift. While prophetic individuals can "feel" the movement of the Holy Spirit, but they can also feel the torment of demonic spirits that attack them through others. Sometimes a prophetic person will begin to discern and feel what someone is tormented with. If the prophetic individual is lax in their time spent with the Lord, it will become increasingly difficult to differentiate between their own feelings and those coming from other people. The second reason stems from various roots of rejection. In many cases, prophetic individuals have experienced rejection so often that they harbor deep feelings of insecurity. Subsequently, they also can harbor pride at doing something others may never have had the opportunity to experience. This pride becomes a driving force that opens the door to deception. Furthermore, they are prone to receive the acceptance of others with open arms, without maintaining an attitude of vigilance. Thus, a prophetic person who has not developed the characteristic of restraint becomes "open prey" for demonic torment and attraction.(John Paul Jackson)

15. Rationalizing Mistakes. The church has set too high of a standard where mistakes are not allowed especially in the prophetic. The church is too quick to label people false prophets when prophetic people make mistakes. Prophetic people are tempted to cover up their mistakes in fear of the church. Prophetic pride will lead to the rationalization of mistakes. Prophetic people are humans who make mistakes and need to have the humility to admit their mistakes while being in an environment where mistakes are accepted.

Sometimes a prophetic person has a hard time admitting a mistake because he or she thinks it would ruin their credibility. Usually just the opposite happens. Rationalizing or failing to admit our mistakes is what usually ruins credibility. People trust people who say they were wrong.(Jack Deere, Surprised By the Voice of God, p.208)

16. Hearing what we want to hear rather than hearing from God. Prophecy can become a crutch. Sometimes people want prophecy more than God. Getting a prophecy can be seen as an easy fix. I believe almost all the major prophetic words given to me have happened when I was simply seeking God and did not expect it. When I seek prophetic words to direct my life, then my motives and my hearing from God can be more easily tainted. When my focus is not centered on God, any prophetic words that I receive may not be heard correctly not because the giver of the word is off but because I may be hearing what I want to hear. Does the word speak into the very depths of our spirit or do we hear something to reinforce a fleshly desire?

I could see the discontentment of the men and women who come to these services. Out of this has arisen the desire for what they think they lack in life.(Most often these are not needs but are nothing more than wants or lusts). This idolatry opens them up to receive words that speak directly to those wants or lusts and strengthens these desires or idols. All that is necessary for them to hear what they want is that they find "ministers" who are lacking in the area of the fear of God. These will be concerned with their reputation, appearance, growth, and agendas. They can be bought or persuaded with the right reward, thus they will speak to them in light of their desires rather by the faithful light of the Word of God.(John Bevere, Thus Saith the Lord, p.76

I am sure there are more than sixteen areas in which prophetic people have trouble. If you move in the prophetic, you must learn to overcome some of the problems that this gift brings otherwise the gift will overwhelm you.

Prophetic Pitfalls, by Ron McKenzie is an excellent article and a helpful resource as I prepared my own article. I used some helpful quotes that McKenzie cites and many of these authors have also impacted my life such as John Paul Jackson, Jack Deere, Graham Cooke and Mike Bickle.

Rick Joyner also has an insight article how prophetic people are more concept-oriented than detailed oriented

Right Brain and Hearing God

A year ago, one of the members of our church, mentioned that he had come to the realization that one of the biggest hurdles in moving into the realm of the supernatural is that he had been trained so deeply in the left side of his brain.

I decided to spend a few days researching the left and right brain concept and I was fascinated to learn how God has wired our brain. There are actually two separate parts of the brain, the left side of the brain is concerned with languages, numbers, reading and reasoning and the right side of the brain has to do with music, dimensional forms, art, intuition and imagination.

Children begin life with right brain dominance, but through the American educational system which reinforces the left brain training and children turn into adults who become skeptical of their right brain functions.

Our educational structure places great emphasis on left brain functions of math, reading and writing and these skills define our identity and our careers. Right brain activities like music, drama and art courses have been become elective or completely eliminated from our schools.

A study actually showed that the left brain actually weighed more than the right brain for school children.
I also believe that emotional wounds can also close us to right brain activity. Adults may move into predictable linear patterns of behavior because that is safe and controlled.

Dr. Jill Bolte Taylor, a neuroscientist at Harvard University, had a stroke which damaged the left side of her brain. During the stroke, she is able to see her right brain come alive into a Nirvana type experience. During her recovery she saw tremendous growth of creativity in the right side of her brain. Her powerful story can be seen on video and gives deep understanding in how our brain functions. Click on her link.

Most people today are more left brain but I believe God wants balance in both areas of the brain. In the Bible, when John wrote the book of Revelation, one sees a high level of right brain activity but written with left brain writing skills.

Commissioning in the "Office of Prophet"

The commissioning in the "Office of Prophet" is not much different than written on this site! It is a "High calling" with "High demands"! Only a prophet really knows the ministry and function of a "Prophet". And even one prophet should not try to "box" other prophets into 'his prophetic rule'! It is unscriptural & unwise to put a Prophet (as for the other 5-fold offices) into a "box" of limited anointing's & activities! There are similar characters, but different in verities of God's destiny and anointing's, specific for each person (prophet)! The 5-fold ascension gifts overlap and integrate just as the 9 gifts of the Holy Spirit do! Non are inferior or superior but they all are anointed, appointed & commissioned of God for His specific purpose!(See more in "Prophet in box?")

Like Ezekiel' Commission...

The Holy Spirit entered into the Prophet Ezekiel in the same sense He comes into men in N.T. times! Ezekiel experienced:

Ezekiel was commissioned to a rebellious nation that hath rebelled against a Holy God!

· He saw the vision of Glory!
· He fell prostrate before God!
· Was commanded to stand up!
· The Spirit entered into him & spoke to him!
· He heard the Spirit speak!

1. A rebellious house (Ezekiel 2:3,8; 3:9,26-27)
2. A sinful house (Ezekiel 2:3)
3. Impudent children (Ezekiel 2:4; 3:7)
4. Stiff-hearted (Ezekiel 2:4)
5. Briers and thorns (Ezekiel 2:6)
6. Scorpions (Ezekiel 2:6)
7. Most rebellious (Ezekiel 2:7)
8. Hardhearted (Ezekiel 3:7)
Ezekiel was called and sent to the children of Israel, to a rebellious nation that had rebelled against God. The impudent children and stiff-hearted! And whether they will hear, or whether they will forbear: This rebellion house, yet, shall know that there had been a prophet among them. And he shall speak His Words unto them!(Ezekiel 2:1-7)

Stand upon your feet!(Ezekiel 2:1).
You shall say to them: "Thus said the Lord God!" (Ezekiel 2:4).

Be not afraid of those who offended you with their words.(Ezekiel 2:6).

Be not dismayed the way they look upon you.

You shall speak My words to them.(Ezekiel 2:7).

Hear what I (the Lord) say to you!(Ezekiel 2:8).

Be not rebellious conform this world!
Open your mouth, ears and eyes towards Me!

Speak My words to them!(Ezekiel 3:4.(Ezekiel 3:27).

Go, get you to them of the captivity, to the children of My people.(Ezekiel 3:11).

Speak to them and tell them of the coming judgments.

Hear the word at My mouth, and give them warning from Me!(Ezekiel 3:17).

Arise; go forth into plain language without compromises!(Ezekiel 3:22).

Go, shut yourself in your house and seek My face!(Ezekiel 3:24).

You shall not go out among them (sinners, hypocrite’s etc.)(Ezekiel 3:25)

Preparing for Prophetic Ministry

The ministry of prophecy given with the laying on of hands is an important partof the development of every church leader. This is a Biblical concept and wasused often in the appointment of leaders to various roles and ministries in theearly church (See Acts 13:1-3. 1 Tim. 1:18-19; 4:14). These notes outline some important areas of teaching that will help you inpreparing for this time of prophetic ministry in your life. Please read throughthem prayerfully.

The Prophetic Ministry

A prophet is someone through whom God speaks His heart, mind and will.

The Old Testament concept of a prophet is “one called (by God) to speak forGod”. God spoke to and through prophets. A prophet was not independent. They spoke God's message, not their own.

Prophets were referred to as:
God'smouthpiece (Jer.1:9), God's messenger, God's representative or God'sinterpreter. Their primary function was to speak the heart and mind of God totheir contemporaries, not just to predict the future.

They were to be judged bytheir fruit, their godliness, their obedience to the commands of God, theaccuracy of their prophetic word and whether their word was fulfilled or not.In the New Testament, the prophetic ministry continues as an important part of God’s plan.

All believers can prophesy at times under the anointing of the HolySpirit (Acts 2:17; 19:6). Some within the church have the “gift of prophecy” thatenables them to move in prophetic ministry on a regular basis (1 Cor.12:10).

Afew are called to be prophets, a ministry given by Jesus to equip the saints forthe work of the ministry so the church may grow (Eph. 4:11-16. 1 Cor.12:29).

The Prophetic Process

How does a prophet receive a message from God? God reveals His mind, heart and will through different methods of communication.

These include visions, dreams, an audible voice, riddles ("darksayings"), angelic messengers or the word of the Lord (See Num. 12:1-10).
All revelation comes by the Spirit and involves "hearing" or "seeing" things fromGod. A prophetic ministry must first “hear” or “see” what God is saying or doing. How does a prophet proclaim a message from God?

A prophetic message is usually spoken (through prophecy or preaching) butmay be written down, demonstrated or illustrated. The message declares God'sheart and mind to His people. The people’s response determines theconsequences.

The Purpose of the Prophetic Ministry
God has given the prophetic ministry for the benefit of believers and theongoing ministry of the church. Here are a number of things that the propheticministry can do:

How Prophets Overcome Witchcraft Spirits
Kingdom Living

We are in a spiritual war for dominion. Apostle Paul said,“We are not wrestling against flesh and blood.” That doesn’t mean we're not wrestling.

It just means we know where the battle really originates. spiritual warfare is something we cannot escape as Christians. Christ said he would build His church and the gates of hell would not prevail. However, they are still trying.

One thing important to me is watching the wiles of the devil in action. He has had thousands of years of practice.

It’s also interesting to see that demonic wiles manifest themselves through various world leaders and those in positions of leadership and influence.

So even though we are not in a fight with people we are in a fight against strongholds.

A stronghold is a fortified value system. Scripture declares,“The weapons of our warfare are not carnal but mighty through God to the pulling down of strongholds.”
Jesus was a spiritual warrior.

After the anointing of the Holy Ghost came on Jesus He rebuked demons, faced Satan, healed the sick, and spoiled principalities and powers. He defeated death, hell and the grave. He is your redeemer and he is risen!

The Holy Spirit

The Holy Spirit is the third person in the Trinity. He is fully God. He is eternal, omniscient, omnipresent, has a will, and can speak. He is alive. He is a person. He is not particularly visible in the Bible because His ministry is to bear witness of Jesus (John 15:26).
Some cults like the Jehovah's Witnesses say that the Holy Spirit is nothing more than a force (Reasoning from the Scriptures, 1985, pp. 406-407). This is false. If the Holy Spirit were merely a force, then He could not speak (Acts 13:2); He could not be grieved (Eph. 4:30); and He would not have a will (1 Cor. 12:11).
The truth is that the Holy Spirit is a person the same as the Father and the Son are within the Trinity.

King James Version: Leviticus Chapter 23
1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, Concerning the feasts of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, even these are my feasts.
3 Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation; ye shall do no work therein: it is the sabbath of the LORD in all your dwellings.
4 These are the feasts of the LORD, even holy convocations, which ye shall proclaim in their seasons.
5 In the fourteenth day of the first month at even is the LORD's passover.
6 And on the fifteenth day of the same month is the feast of unleavened bread unto the LORD: seven days ye must eat unleavened bread.
7 In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.
8 But ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD seven days: in the seventh day is an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.
9 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
10 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come into the land which I give unto you, and shall reap the harvest thereof, then ye shall bring a sheaf of the firstfruits of your harvest unto the priest:
11 And he shall wave the sheaf before the LORD, to be accepted for you: on the morrow after the sabbath the priest shall wave it.
12 And ye shall offer that day when ye wave the sheaf an he lamb without blemish of the first year for a burnt offering unto the LORD.
13 And the meat offering thereof shall be two tenth deals of fine flour mingled with oil, an offering made by fire unto the LORD for a sweet savour: and the drink offering thereof shall be of wine, the fourth part of an hin.
14 And ye shall eat neither bread, nor parched corn, nor green ears, until the selfsame day that ye have brought an offering unto your God: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
15 And ye shall count unto you from the morrow after the sabbath, from the day that ye brought the sheaf of the wave offering; seven sabbaths shall be complete:
16 Even unto the morrow after the seventh sabbath shall ye number fifty days; and ye shall offer a new meat offering unto the LORD.
17 Ye shall bring out of your habitations two wave loaves of two tenth deals; they shall be of fine flour; they shall be baken with leaven; they are the firstfruits unto the LORD.
18 And ye shall offer with the bread seven lambs without blemish of the first year, and one young bullock, and two rams: they shall be for a burnt offering unto the LORD, with their meat offering, and their drink offerings, even an offering made by fire, of sweet savour unto the LORD.
19 Then ye shall sacrifice one kid of the goats for a sin offering, and two lambs of the first year for a sacrifice of peace offerings.
20 And the priest shall wave them with the bread of the firstfruits for a wave offering before the LORD, with the two lambs: they shall be holy to the LORD for the priest.
21 And ye shall proclaim on the selfsame day, that it may be an holy convocation unto you: ye shall do no servile work therein: it shall be a statute for ever in all your dwellings throughout your generations.
22 And when ye reap the harvest of your land, thou shalt not make clean riddance of the corners of thy field when thou reapest, neither shalt thou gather any gleaning of thy harvest: thou shalt leave them unto the poor, and to the stranger: I am the LORD your God.
23 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
24 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, In the seventh month, in the first day of the month, shall ye have a sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation.
25 Ye shall do no servile work therein: but ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.

27 Also on the tenth day of this seventh month there shall be a day of atonement: it shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall afflict your souls, and offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
28 And ye shall do no work in that same day: for it is a day of atonement, to make an atonement for you before the LORD your God.
29 For whatsoever soul it be that shall not be afflicted in that same day, he shall be cut off from among his people.
30 And whatsoever soul it be that doeth any work in that same day, the same soul will I destroy from among his people.
31 Ye shall do no manner of work: it shall be a statute for ever throughout your generations in all your dwellings.
32 It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest, and ye shall afflict your souls: in the ninth day of the month at even, from even unto even, shall ye celebrate your sabbath.
33 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
34 Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, The fifteenth day of this seventh month shall be the feast of tabernacles for seven days unto the LORD.
35 On the first day shall be an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.
36 Seven days ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: on the eighth day shall be an holy convocation unto you; and ye shall offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD: it is a solemn assembly; and ye shall do no servile work therein.
37 These are the feasts of the LORD, which ye shall proclaim to be holy convocations, to offer an offering made by fire unto the LORD, a burnt offering, and a meat offering, a sacrifice, and drink offerings, every thing upon his day:
38 Beside the sabbaths of the LORD, and beside your gifts, and beside all your vows, and beside all your freewill offerings, which ye give unto the LORD.
39 Also in the fifteenth day of the seventh month, when ye have gathered in the fruit of the land, ye shall keep a feast unto the LORD seven days: on the first day shall be a sabbath, and on the eighth day shall be a sabbath.
40 And ye shall take you on the first day the boughs of goodly trees, branches of palm trees, and the boughs of thick trees, and willows of the brook; and ye shall rejoice before the LORD your God seven days.
41 And ye shall keep it a feast unto the LORD seven days in the year. It shall be a statute for ever in your generations: ye shall celebrate it in the seventh month.
42 Ye shall dwell in booths seven days; all that are Israelites born shall dwell in booths:
43 That your generations may know that I made the children of Israel to dwell in booths, when I brought them out of the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

Leviticus Chapter 24

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
2 Command the children of Israel, that they bring unto thee pure oil olive beaten for the light, to cause the lamps to burn continually.
3 Without the vail of the testimony, in the tabernacle of the congregation, shall Aaron order it from the evening unto the morning before the LORD continually: it shall be a statute for ever in your generations.
4 He shall order the lamps upon the pure candlestick before the LORD continually.
5 And thou shalt take fine flour, and bake twelve cakes thereof: two tenth deals shall be in one cake.
6 And thou shalt set them in two rows, six on a row, upon the pure table before the LORD.
7 And thou shalt put pure frankincense upon each row, that it may be on the bread for a memorial, even an offering made by fire unto the LORD.
8 Every sabbath he shall set it in order before the LORD continually, being taken from the children of Israel by an everlasting covenant.
9 And it shall be Aaron's and his sons'; and they shall eat it in the holy place: for it is most holy unto him of the offerings of the LORD made by fire by a perpetual statute.
10 And the son of an Israelitish woman, whose father was an Egyptian, went out among the children of Israel: and this son of the Israelitish woman and a man of Israel strove together in the camp;
11 And the Israelitish woman's son blasphemed the name of the Lord, and cursed. And they brought him unto Moses:(and his mother's name was Shelomith, the daughter of Dibri, of the tribe of Dan:)
12 And they put him in ward, that the mind of the LORD might be shewed them.
13 And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,
14 Bring forth him that hath cursed without the camp; and let all that heard him lay their hands upon his head, and let all the congregation stone him.
15 And thou shalt speak unto the children of Israel, saying, Whosoever curseth his God shall bear his sin.
16 And he that blasphemeth the name of the LORD, he shall surely be put to death, and all the congregation shall certainly stone him: as well the stranger, as he that is born in the land, when he blasphemeth the name of the Lord, shall be put to death.
17 And he that killeth any man shall surely be put to death.
18 And he that killeth a beast shall make it good; beast for beast.
19 And if a man cause a blemish in his neighbour; as he hath done, so shall it be done to him;
20 Breach for breach, eye for eye, tooth for tooth: as he hath caused a blemish in a man, so shall it be done to him again.
21 And he that killeth a beast, he shall restore it: and he that killeth a man, he shall be put to death.
22 Ye shall have one manner of law, as well for the stranger, as for one of your own country: for I am the LORD your God.
23 And Moses spake to the children of Israel, that they should bring forth him that had cursed out of the camp, and stone him with stones. And the children of Israel did as the LORD commanded Moses.

Leviticus Chapter 25

1 And the LORD spake unto Moses in mount Sinai, saying,
2 Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye come into the land which I give you, then shall the land keep a sabbath unto the LORD.
3 Six years thou shalt sow thy field, and six years thou shalt prune thy vineyard, and gather in the fruit thereof;
4 But in the seventh year shall be a sabbath of rest unto the land, a sabbath for the LORD: thou shalt neither sow thy field, nor prune thy vineyard.
5 That which groweth of its own accord of thy harvest thou shalt not reap, neither gather the grapes of thy vine undressed: for it is a year of rest unto the land.
6 And the sabbath of the land shall be meat for you; for thee, and for thy servant, and for thy maid, and for thy hired servant, and for thy stranger that sojourneth with thee.
7 And for thy cattle, and for the beast that are in thy land, shall all the increase thereof be meat.
8 And thou shalt number seven sabbaths of years unto thee, seven times seven years; and the space of the seven sabbaths of years shall be unto thee forty and nine years.
9 Then shalt thou cause the trumpet of the jubile to sound on the tenth day of the seventh month, in the day of atonement shall ye make the trumpet sound throughout all your land.
10 And ye shall hallow the fiftieth year, and proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof: it shall be a jubile unto you; and ye shall return every man unto his possession, and ye shall return every man unto his family.
11 A jubile shall that fiftieth year be unto you: ye shall not sow, neither reap that which groweth of itself in it, nor gather the grapes in it of thy vine undressed.
12 For it is the jubile; it shall be holy unto you: ye shall eat the increase thereof out of the field.

15 According to the number of years after the jubile thou shalt buy of thy neighbour, and according unto the number of years of the fruits he shall sell unto thee:
16 According to the multitude of years thou shalt increase the price thereof, and according to the fewness of years thou shalt diminish the price of it: for according to the number of the years of the fruits doth he sell unto thee.
17 Ye shall not therefore oppress one another; but thou shalt fear thy God:for I am the LORD your God.
18 Wherefore ye shall do my statutes, and keep my judgments, and do them; and ye shall dwell in the land in safety.
19 And the land shall yield her fruit, and ye shall eat your fill, and dwell therein in safety.
20 And if ye shall say, What shall we eat the seventh year? behold, we shall not sow, nor gather in our increase:
21 Then I will command my blessing upon you in the sixth year, and it shall bring forth fruit for three years.
22 And ye shall sow the eighth year, and eat yet of old fruit until the ninth year; until her fruits come in ye shall eat of the old store.
23 The land shall not be sold for ever: for the land is mine, for ye are strangers and sojourners with me.
24 And in all the land of your possession ye shall grant a redemption for the land.
25 If thy brother be waxen poor, and hath sold away some of his possession, and if any of his kin come to redeem it, then shall he redeem that which his brother sold.
26 And if the man have none to redeem it, and himself be able to redeem it;
27 Then let him count the years of the sale thereof, and restore the overplus unto the man to whom he sold it; that he may return unto his possession.
28 But if he be not able to restore it to him, then that which is sold shall remain in the hand of him that hath bought it until the year of jubile: and in the jubile it shall go out, and he shall return unto his possession.
29 And if a man sell a dwelling house in a walled city, then he may redeem it within a whole year after it is sold; within a full year may he redeem it.
30 And if it be not redeemed within the space of a full year, then the house that is in the walled city shall be established for ever to him that bought it throughout his generations: it shall not go out in the jubile.
31 But the houses of the villages which have no wall round about them shall be counted as the fields of the country: they may be redeemed, and they shall go out in the jubile.
32 Notwithstanding the cities of the Levites, and the houses of the cities of their possession, may the Levites redeem at any time.
33 And if a man purchase of the Levites, then the house that was sold, and the city of his possession, shall go out in the year of jubile: for the houses of the cities of the Levites are their possession among the children of Israel.
34 But the field of the suburbs of their cities may not be sold; for it is their perpetual possession.
35 And if thy brother be waxen poor, and fallen in decay with thee; then thou shalt relieve him: yea, though he be a stranger, or a sojourner; that he may live with thee.
36 Take thou no usury of him, or increase: but fear thy God; that thy brother may live with thee.
37 Thou shalt not give him thy money upon usury, nor lend him thy victuals for increase.
38 I am the LORD your God, which brought you forth out of the land of Egypt, to give you the land of Canaan, and to be your God.
39 And if thy brother that dwelleth by thee be waxen poor, and be sold unto thee; thou shalt not compel him to serve as a bondservant:

40 But as an hired servant, and as a sojourner, he shall be with thee, and shall serve thee unto the year of jubile.
41 And then shall he depart from thee, both he and his children with him, and shall return unto his own family, and unto the possession of his fathers shall he return.
42 For they are my servants, which I brought forth out of the land of Egypt: they shall not be sold as bondmen.
43 Thou shalt not rule over him with rigour; but shalt fear thy God.
44 Both thy bondmen, and thy bondmaids, which thou shalt have, shall be of the heathen that are round about you; of them shall ye buy bondmen and bondmaids.
45 Moreover of the children of the strangers that do sojourn among you, of them shall ye buy, and of their families that are with you, which they begat in your land: and they shall be your possession.
46 And ye shall take them as an inheritance for your children after you, to inherit them for a possession; they shall be your bondmen for ever: but over your brethren the children of Israel, ye shall not rule one over another with rigour.
47 And if a sojourner or stranger wax rich by thee, and thy brother that dwelleth by him wax poor, and sell himself unto the stranger or sojourner by thee, or to the stock of the stranger's family:
48 After that he is sold he may be redeemed again; one of his brethren may redeem him:
49 Either his uncle, or his uncle's son, may redeem him, or any that is nigh of kin unto him of his family may redeem him; or if he be able, he may redeem himself.
50 And he shall reckon with him that bought him from the year that he was sold to him unto the year of jubile: and the price of his sale shall be according unto the number of years, according to the time of an hired servant shall it be with him.
51 If there be yet many years behind, according unto them he shall give again the price of his redemption out of the money that he was bought for.
52 And if there remain but few years unto the year of jubile, then he shall count with him, and according unto his years shall he give him again the price of his redemption.
53 And as a yearly hired servant shall he be with him: and the other shall not rule with rigour over him in thy sight.
54 And if he be not redeemed in these years, then he shall go out in the year of jubile, both he, and his children with him.
55 For unto me the children of Israel are servants; they are my servants whom I brought forth out of the land of Egypt: I am the LORD your God.

....Now, let me back up here and give a defense for those who are on the frontlines giving prophetic words. I have said this a thousand times, for it is true: It is not enough to hear the voice of God. You must know what He means.

Many times, the problem isn't that the person giving the prophetic word did not hear God – but rather they lacked the ability to fully understand the word's meaning and thus properly interpret what He meant. This takes years of experience learning from your mistakes.

Too many are quick to judge the person giving the word rather than the word itself; we could use a lot more grace in this area. Time is the true test for every prophecy; to assume you know if the word is correct OR NOT before time reveals it, then that is to despise the prophecy.

Do not quench the Spirit. Do not despise prophecies. Test all things; hold fast what is good. 1 Thessalonians 5:19-21
One of the major reasons people who are ministering in the gift of prophecy feel they have failed when giving someone a prophetic word is because they are afraid they will mess up someone's life.

You cannot help but respect a person who is that concerned. However, allow me to speak to you if you are one of these types of prophetic people:

You must trust the Holy Spirit with everything within you that He will not misguide you. You cannot mess up if you put your mind in neutral and speak or write only what He puts into your thoughts and spirit. Prophesying all starts with just one word; and once you speak or write that one word, everything else will begin to flow.

Can a Christian be physically afflicted by demons without a sinful point of access?

by Mark Sandford

Can a Christian be physically afflicted by demons, even when there is no sinful point of access?[a response to a question that came up at a prophetic school]

According to Lk. 10:17,18 (emphasis mine): The seventy-two returned with joy and said, "Lord, even the demons submit to us in your name." Jesus replied, "I saw Satan fall like lightning from the heaven. I have given you authority to trample on snakes and scorpions and to overcome all the power of the enemy; nothing will harm you."

In the Greek, adikeo means "harm," physical or otherwise. This verse is in the context of doing deliverance. Can a righteous man be physically harmed during a deliverance session?

Nowhere have I read an account of this, either in Scripture or in the historical record. By contrast, in Acts. 19:14-16, the Seven sons of Sceva were beat up because they were not Christians, yet were doing deliverance.

We have seen no instances where Christians suffered a similar fate, although we have seen instances where unconfessed sin gave demons the right to afflict emotionally. For instance, a certain man became demonized when he assisted a deliverance minister in casting a demon out of a homosexual. Because the man hated homosexuals, the demon transferred to him. It afflicted him by causing him to become sexually attracted to other men until he repented of his hatred, and was delivered of the homosexual demon.

So, does Luke 10 imply that no demon can ever harm a Christian physically (even outside of a deliverance session), unless there is a sinful point of access? According to Mt. 4:5, demons can at least affect a righteous person physically without harming him: "Then the devil took [Jesus] to the holy city and had him stand on the highest point of the temple." In the Greek, histemi means, "To cause to stand, to set" (literally, the devil "stood him").

Satan physically transported Jesus to the pinnacle of the temple. But surely he did this only with God's permission.

But can a demon directly harm a righteous person physically? According to Scripture, the answer is yes, but once again, only with God's permission. Satan obtained permission to afflict Job physically, with boils: "The Lord said to Satan, "Very well, then, he is in your hands; but you must spare his life'" (Job 2:6).

On rare occasions I have heard Christians claim that when Jesus came, he prevented this kind of thing from ever happening again to a Christian. For Jesus defeated the demons: And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross (Col. 2:15). Therefore, Satan cannot use any sin that we have repented of. However, Job was not afflicted because of any personal sin.

He was afflicted because God gave Satan permission, in spite of Job's righteousness. For that reason, I know of no commentary claiming that a predicament like Job's cannot occur today.
2 Cor. 12:7 might confirm this. Paul said, To keep me from becoming conceited because of these surpassingly great revelations, there was given me a thorn in my flesh, a messenger of Satan, to torment me. Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me. But he said to me, "My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness."

All commentators agree that the thorn had nothing to do with any sin in Paul. Rather, as the passage says, it was sent to keep him from sinning. The Greek word, "torment," is kolaphizo, to strike with clenched hands, to buffet with the fist. Even though Paul offered Satan no sinful point of access, God allowed him to be buffeted with the fist. Does this mean demons physically harmed him, perhaps through discomfort or a physical ailment (some commentators suggest that Paul's "thorn" was poor eyesight--see Gal. 4:15)?

Or did Paul use the phrase metaphorically, of a spiritual or emotional buffeting? We don't know. No one knows exactly what Paul's thorn in the flesh was. However, we do know the following:
---(1 The thorn was in his flesh. The word, "flesh," can be used of the sin in us, but it is also used of the body. This makes it possible that the "buffeting" was physical.

---(2 The word for "buffet" means a physical beating. Although one might use any word metaphorically, this word's customary meaning was physical. Elsewhere in scripture, the word is used in this way (for instance, of the soldiers beating Christ (Mt. 26:67; Mk. 14:65).
---(3 The thorn was "from Satan;" Satan was afflicting a righteous man.
---(4 The thorn was sent only by God's explicit permission, to accomplish God's purpose.

Conclusion: in rare instances and only by God's permission, a demon may afflict a person who offers it no point of sinful access.

In the vast majority of cases, physical demonic affliction has been invited by sin. But it may at least be possible that in rare cases, it is not. To determine whether this is so, careful discernment is required.
Does the Old Testament really say that inaccurate prophets should be put to death?[in response to a question about a teaching given by a prophet.

In our prophetic school, we teach that Dt. 18:20 commands Israel to put prophets to death when they prophesy inaccurately. Thus, a false prophecy is a sin as weighty as adultery, murder or witchcraft, which likewise reaped the death penalty. However, we believe that today, just as God can restore anyone who commits these sins, God can restore an erring prophet if he repents.

By contrast, a certain modern day prophet teaches that Dt. 18:20 does not command that such a prophet should be put to death. Thus, in his eyes, an inaccurate word is not a weighty matter, and repentance for speaking presumptuously is not necessarily called for]:
