This is good. As the East has shown, freedom is not necessary for a thriving economy.

At least it was reviewed by non loyal Bushites... so I feel it may be more on the level then it was....

I mean less likely to be abused for political gain.

Ah, the good ol' Unpatriot Act.

I really think the Founders are rolling in their graves over this. The first time, it was done in a panic after 9/11, which is not a good time to work on something this far reaching.

When fighting a terrorist war sometimes you have to give away what you have never seen. Only crimminals have anything to fear.

People like you make me sick. It would be one thing if you were willing to give up your rights, but you want to give up mine, too. Well, you can't have them without a fight.

People in Germany in 1935 thought just like you. Look where they were 10 years later.

You post your country, state and city so everyone else can see what kind of paranoid Idoits (sorry) mentally challenged loser we are dealing with. We are not German, maybe your are ? We live in the USA, maybe you don't. Lock yourself in a closet, we will call you when all is clear.

Tulsa, OK...

And maybe we are not German, but that does not mean it can't happen to us. It probably won't, in fact. But I, personally, don't want to take the chance. Giving someone power usually only increases their taste for it.

I see you are one of those that has bought inot the White House's fear mongering.

I one continues to live in the Dark-ages one continues to think that way. Born in 59 I can only tell you what I read or saw on film of these events, paranoid people trying to protect their country from what seems to happening today all around us. I would hope that we never get attacked again, but if it happens I can safely say it could have been due to the lack of diligence on the part of people such as yourself. Times change, threats change and as a nation that will survive we to must change.
Just what right do you think they are going to take away from you ? The right to secretly commit crimes ! The right to overthrow the US govt !
Somewhere along the line you misunderstood your wants and desires for rights. You can't just pick out one or two and say these are my rights, you have to accept them all together. Abide by them, live by them and when asked to DIE by them. That is what this country was founded on and that is what this country will live by, till the very END.

Yes...invoke the fear of 9/11. Help Patriot Act...save me! That is your attitude.

And I do accept all of my rights. Every one. You can't have them. And I accept my responsibilities to, which include upholding the Constitution. I swore and oath on that, one time. And I still take it seriously.

The Patriot Act was an un-needed piece of legislation. Most of it was already there, in more limited form. But the government has the power to be vastly more invasive toward American citizens, now. Perhaps they won't use it that way. But power like that usually is used by someone. I don't want to take the chance they will.

And the McCarthy trials...I would call them more power mad than paranoid. And they ruined the lives of hundreds in their witch hunt. They had been given the power to invade peoples lives, and they used it. Take that as a warning.

In the mean time, don't face up to your responsibilities, hide behind the Patriot Act, and be afraid if you want. And if you are willing to have the government stare over you shoulder constantly, you deserve Big Brother.

Changing Times call for Changing Thoughts. As long as the Congress and the Senate are at work, not golfing in Ireland the system of checks and balances is at work. Its hard to catch terrorist and disadents when they don't play by your rules. Thanks, for being a good American. Thats all anybody asks of you.

Do you know how hard it would be for comunism, or a dictatorship to come to pwer in this country? there would be too many opinions critizicing the government, the gvt would not last even at most twenty years. The Patriot act is just preventing something like that from happening. If you have something to hide, stop doing it while you can, before it bites you back.

Yeah...9/11...everything has changed...changing times... Shout your mantra.

Well, some things should not change, and if we are to remain America Land of the Free, we need to take our civil rights seriously.

I am not afraid of the terrorist. I believe our law enforcement has the tools to handle them without the Unpatriot Act.

Suppose you are an average Joe and the FBI hauls you off to the joint telling you they think you have terrorist connections. After 20 some days of staring at the wall an IRS agent appears... He shows you a tax bill for several thousand then tells you if you will sign it that he has some pull "on the other side of the door" and can get you out, plus that he will set you up with an easy payment schedule. If you dont think you would sign it try locking yourself in the bedroom for 5 days!!!

Not being afraid of terrorist doesn't prove your brave, just lacking. America's bravest men are afraid, thats what keeps them alive and the terrorist DEAD. As for lawenforcement, if that were true then why DID 9/11 happen ? The FBI had knowledge about the terrorist taking flying lessons several months prior. RED FLAGS, that some people choose to ignor.
I see the Pat-Act protecting me from, Liberals, Dems, terrorists, Disadents and NON-law abiding Americans.

WOW, you should call the SCI-FI network I'll bet you could get a job as a writer of fiction stories. Is this something you want to happen to you, kinda like a wet dream. When the govt gets that much power that Americans have no rights then its to late for anything (bombs have been dropped).
Foriegners living in the USA don't have the same rights that US citizens have thats why they are not called citizens of the USA. But, if taken someone into a back room for interagation leads to a plot to kill Americans, I'm all for it. Protect your own, live to tell about it.

If you believe that an innocent man has never been imprisoned, or even executed, you are greatly deluded. Remember how many death row inmates had been exonerated by DNA in Illinois? Just because you are squeaky clean is no guarantee you won't come up on police radar. And if you want to get really, really picky...there is no way you are squeaky clean. There are contradictory laws on the books that mean you have to have broken one or the other. You are guilty of something.

So you are in favor of torture as well as the Patriot Act. Well, that is good. We don't have to worry about barbarians at the gates. They are already here.(said with heavy sarcasm)

And BTW, foriegners on US soil do have the same civil rights as Americans, or are at least supposed to according to law.
