Outstanding post.<quoted text>There is often a very fine line between genius and insanity. it's not hard to compartmentalize the genius aspect and be completely irrational in many others. Richard Wagner truly believed he was as a God, that he had in fact created a new form of music. He music was genius, but the delusional aspect associated with him borders on insanity. Very intelligent people can be brainwashed, especially if that brainwashing involves religious beliefs and started at an early age. It's common knowledge that people who are highly intelligent on one particular field, know little, nor care about, much else.
I find it truly amazing that anyone who claims to be a critical thinker can even begin to accept talking snakes, a magical fruit tree, a man created from a pile of dirt, a fully formed women from one of his torn out ribs, an ark that contained every living on the face of the planet, zombies rising from their graves and strolling around the city, and so much more absolute foolishness.
I do believe that intelligence is directly connected to logic, reason, and skepticism. A little research will show you that those with higher I.Q's tend to NOT believe in God.
Here, in my opinion is the danger of unsupported beliefs. They absolve the believer of all responsibilities. They have diminished respect for others who do not share their beliefs or faith. Convinced that the bible offers the only truth, they lose intellectual curiosity and their ability to reason. Their priorities become NOT the world they live in, but themselves. The more people prioritize themselves, the weaker society becomes and the greater the likelihood of anti-social behavior.
The only real difference in opinion would be replacing higher IQ... with higher education.
IQ is meaningless until applied.
There still exist more exceptions than we would like to imagine.
Especially agree with indoctrination leading to diminished curiosity. I would even take it a step further to state that something of a denial manifests in believers.
Once they accept the bill of goods, they seem to reject anything that will endanger their beliefs.
Evolution for example. It is right there in front of them. All the evidence you will ever need for not only micro, but macro. Yet, we have inexplicably large groups of people in the intelligent design camp.
They call it science because they were told it is. However, it has no testable hypothesis. Simply, repackaged creationism trying to get a proverbial "foot in the door" of our education system. The only "controversy" exists in evolution it's self. There is no competing scientific theory.
Side note... The intelligent designers received a large influx of supporters not too long ago. Overjoyed, they held a gathering to exchange ideas. They soon realized the new camp had the EXACT same belief that they held. However, these newcomers credited aliens as the designer(s).
As you can imagine... the religious intelligent designers are doing everything they can to distance themselves from the alien designers.
Legally, we are asked to believe that intelligent design has nothing to do with religion. Outside of the courtroom... they show their true colors.
