You are apologizing to the man who wrote this hateful drivel?
Why? Do you think your kindness will help him to see what an a$$ he is and in turn, he will try to be a better person?
He belittles young people and gays, all in three quick lines.
He has no use for tolerance.
Annie, your post was absolutely spot on. You have nothing to apologize for.
I'm curious. How is a majority fact considered "hateful dribble"?

Kids are dumb.

A lot of them don't have wisdom or patience.

A lot of them DO still live at home.

A lot of them DO have a mommy & mommy...

By "kids", I'm talking about what you'd probably call "young adults" that are 18-28.

If I offended you, I didn't mean to and I apologize.

I suggest you relax. It's ok if other people disagree with you.

I have those answers, I was asking you the questions.
Look, either you want to learn about the Bible or you wanna keep your ignorant stance on it.
Which is it?
You can have NO answers when verifiable information is unavailable. Making shit up is NOT having answers. Quoting passages from an ancient book who's authors are unknown, and then claiming you have the answers is foolish. Without verifiable evidence you have nothing.

I'm absolutely capable of reading and comprehending the bible, I have read much of what it contains, most of it makes me physically sick. And I'm not talking about specific event but the entire concept behind vicarious redemption, letting an individual take away your personal responsibility for wrong doing, a sacrifice that was a hoax, and the whole idea behind a being who can see the future, knows what will transpire, yet punishes those whom he knows will do wrong. It's a sick concept, no one in their right mind could believe such utter nonsense!!!!!

Besides, who cares what dumb kids have to say. They've yet to learn wisdom or patience. Shit, half of them still live with mommy & mommy....
Foolish?

What I meant by that...

We spend tons of money each year educating our children. We send them off to college for 4 years or longer to obtain skills and the latest technology. They are then hired and stuck in a corner somewhere...just to do everything old school. Why...because many from the older generation are afraid to change.

It is like making a file...old school would be 1000s of pages...newest technology...maybe 50 pages with an index to a file that is common across the board to all folders.

I think that they are right in some ways about us being foolish...look at Topix for example...from thread to thread...it is almost the same conversation...in some cases...the same participants. We present the same problems day in and day out...and offer the same rebuttals. We all know that saying...if it didn't work the first 100 times...what makes you think it will work the 101st time...or something like that.

Yes...they are still gathering wisdom...they are still learning patience. Many of them want to learn from those with experience...for some reason there are many of us that don't take the time to share with them...or if we do...we treat them as if they know nothing.

As far as who they live with...many live on their own...many have been supporting themselves for years...many of them help take care of or help out their parents. Yes...some mooch off of their parents...but that is a small percentage.

Now...to tie this in to the topic of this thread...they are all miracles that we have had a hand in creating...if only we are not too blind to see.

I know...I am just hoping that there are some people left in this world that can have open dialogue without beating each other over the head.

I have lost all patience with arguing and don't like what that does to me.

One of my favorite quotes...

“He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster. And if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you.”

Friedrich Nietzsche

Lately...I have found myself becoming that monster...that I don't want to be. It is hard to stand for what you believe in and maintain civility at the same time...at least on a medium such as Topix.

There's a difference between reading, studying and understanding the bible.

I have pity for your ignorance.

You equate "Understanding" with "interpretation." You find a passage that reeks of humanity, specifically frightened old men, and then you begin your journey to somehow put as positive spin on it. I will admit, you are very very good at spinning biblical passages to come on the positive side, BRAVO. Unfortunately, I can comprehend what I'm reading, I don't need to try and find hidden meanings and false interpretations. Owning another human being is immoral, PERIOD. Put whatever spin you care to put, but it is immoral and the bible.

You seem to be blaming the older generations for the problems of the younger.

I'm curious why.

No RR...not placing blame...you wanted to know why they think we can be foolish. I am sure there are more reasons...lord knows that we can all be foolish at times.

Each generation has its own set of problems...some all generations share in common and some are unique to the times. No ones fault IMO...just comes with the territory of being human.

I do however think that we all pass down certain problems to the next generation in hopes that they can be solve. On the other hand...we also solve some of those problems so that they don't have to deal with them.

We are all connected...all responsible...

I don't blame the youth for the problems of the youth, not all of it anyways.

I think a lot of the problems with kids today is the parents, really it's the lack of parenting from the "mom and dad".

These kids are allowed to do pretty much whatever they want with no fear of consequences. That can't be good for any of us.

IMO One of the biggest mistakes that parents of our generation did was to think that we could give them self-esteem...instead of them finding it for themselves.

I had a neighbor once that invited me over. As she gave me a tour of her home I started seeing crayon drawings all over some of the walls. I guess she could see my surprise because she explained to me that she didn't want to cramp their creativity. LOL

It is my experience that some of the younger generation see the same thing that we are seeing. Lack of responsibility...lack of accountability...lack of respect for others. But you know RR...our parents saw us in the same light...no doubt.

Elvis shaking his hips...Woodstock...tie-die...m ini-skirts...yep...each generation was always the worst.

These kids are no worse in their own way than we were. Hey...my generation introduced drugs, bra burning and free sex! LOL We protested war and painted our Volkswagen with huge ugly flowers!

Biggest difference...we had better music!

Can't beat this one! LOL

Yup...

My little brother lets his kids do pretty much anything, including drinking Kool-Aid on the couch, crayons on the walls, using the bed as a trampoline, hanging from the kitchen cabinets, etc.
It drives me nuts.

You're WRONG once again, don't you ever tire of being wrong? Its as simple as this, I refuse to believe in anything for no GOOD REASON. I refuse to believe in anything for which there is NO VERIFIABLE evidence. I refuse to adopt a belief built on fear. I refuse to adopt a belief because it gives me comfort. I refuse to adopt a belief that shuns the empirical evidence that science shows. I refuse to adopt a belief that is cohesive to children. I refuse to adopt a belief that only can add to the divisiveness of our species. In the end I, like ALL ATHEISTS, are critical thinkers, skeptical of unsupported claims, and see religion as the poison that it really is.

God is a mythical being, a fictitious thing, God is something that you can't even describe, you have no idea what its properties are, what physical attributes it might have. God, in the end, is a non-answer. You simply have a belief, exactly the same as any Muslim, Hindu, or Jew. It's a belief without evidence, a delusion. You actually suffer from a very serious mental disease called DELUSIONAL DISORDER. This disease is manifested by people who cannot tell what is real from what is only imagined. Seek professional help.....soon!!!!

Is someone trying to tell you that you MUST believe it bg?

I am not an atheist nor a Christian but so far no one has forced me to believe anything that I didn't want to believe.

I have heard others claim that all atheist are critical thinkers. I don't know about that. I personally believe that "critical thinker" is a cliche...a feel good about one's self phrase. Or possibly even a label that one sticks on themself to make them seem greater than what they are.

Now me...I have been told often that I think too much at times...other times I have been told I think strangely. Believe me...no one has to tell me that there are times that I just didn't think at all.

Just how do you go about this critical thinking that you claim to do?

I don't know...I just reread your post...seems more like ranting and raving than it does critical thinking. Of course...maybe that is your idea of what critical thinking is.
