This is something that's interested me since I first realized that sexual attraction to a sixteen year old female is defined as pedophilia. A sixteen year old female is usually sexually developed as an adult, not a child. Yet, because she is a minor according to law, attraction to her is labeled as pedophilia. I think this is screwed up. Comments?

There are a range of definitions and it also depends on which state/country one lives in. I consider U.S. laws in this respect to be definitely screwed up, so I'm glad I live in Europe where banging 16 year old girls is not a crime.

My grandmother was married and pregnant at 16.That was 1922.My other grandmother was married at 18,that was 1924.Seemed to be acceptable back then.See,we regressed in this "when is a person an adult" ideals when ,as I was told, people had to grow up fast back then.No child labor laws back then either.Children are babied too long now, hence the higher age of consent law.Anyone from those years can vouch for this.Reaching maturity is slowed when babied too long.Go to the 1950s' when 20 somethings asked for permission to marry. Now they marry at 18,sometimes to a 17 year old without asking permission from their parents.

I agree with you that "babying" teenagers retard emotional maturation. I'm just not sure what point you are trying to make in your last sentence. Could you clarify ?

The "babying" you referred to can take many forms : Freeing children of responsibilities, intensive & extensive schooling, suitable indoctrination ( even culminating in peer pressure ), legislation, etc. Despite increasing mental capabilities, society has over the years increasingly shifted adulthood artificially away from the age of physical maturation, by raising the bar for mental maturation ( emphasis on prolonged education & training ) & by repressing emotional maturation through social engineering.

In my opinion this is a sure recipe for disaster.

I stand to be corrected on this, but think that 16 is the age of consent for most countries. In some countries the age of consent is even lower, but it does not neccessarily lower the morality of such country ( it would, however, obviously lower the incidence of statutory rape ). To me it is a bit ridiculous that teenagers who may become movie stars, olympic champions, top class musicians or crafty computer hackers, teenagers who may patent their own inventions, run their own businesses, write excellent poetry & fiction, & even earn college degrees, etc are repressed by society instead of educated towards the emotional maturity matching their physical maturity & mental development.

An interesting perspective on WHY this type of social engineering is used to "baby" teenagers well into adulthood, can be seen at the following site :

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ephebophilia

Exactly the truth of the matter.

Sorry, correction : I provided the wrong link. Here is the correct one :

( It was a site linked to the one I gave in the previous post, & can be viewed in conjunction with it : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ephebophilia
I think the 2 matters are very much linked, anyhow )

49 states reconginze a 17 year old as a child. If you want sex with a 5-year old, then move to Vermont whose motto is "Old enough to pee, old enough for me!".

Curtis, I know you don't know me, but, I am politely asking for a favor.

Would you please refrain from 'slogans' like the one above?

As an incest and rape victim from age 7 to age 14,and being told I would be killed if I said anything, it still bothers me to see things like that. I can handle a lot more other things, but, this is still an open wound.

Thank you for listening to me.

I did not mean to offend you, however, you should probably complain to the Governor of Vermont for not passing Jessica's law. Vermont is still allowing pedophiles to roam free with no prison time. You can choose to be offended or you can take action to ensure other's do not have to suffer the pain that you did.

If you grew up in a country where 16 year olds are regarded as adults, which they are, both mentally, physically & emotionally, chances are that both your own emotional & mental development would not have been retarded by 2 years, & you would have been able to comment in an intelligent, instead of an infantile, manner.( In my country jeering at someone like that is associated with the lower grades of grade school ), & 16 year olds are not as obsessed with sex because they are not teased by society, but treated with the respect they warrant. Grow up for 2 years, & then venture a mature opinion. The question was a valid one, coming from someone who actually pondered the matter. Funny thing is my pioneer ancestors got married at the age of 15 at the most ( it is still legal today ), at which age age the women had to be competent to run a household ( much more complicated than it is today with all the appliances & preserved foods ), & likewise the men had to be able to hunt, farm, & fix things to make a living. Furthermore they were schooled maximally for the time. I expect it was much the same in your county's pioneering days. That is how civilisation & education were brought into the country, by no-nonsense pioneers. Nothing wrong with morality of our ancestors. So, what went wrong ? Devolution of mankind ? Perhaps. Go read the article at this site to see why you cannot match your pioneering ancestors ( its not really your fault ):

LMAO I'm a legal adult, female, and generally attracted to older men. I'm just into sociologoy, anthropology, etc., and this issue struck me as bizarre and unnatural. When I think "pedophile," I think someone who is unnaturally attracted to children...not someone who is attracted to what evolution designed him (usually it's a him, females tending to be attracted to providers/defenders and thus older men) to be attracted to. Think about it.

i'm with you there. So, how would you define children ? Society's definition seem to be very different for different cultures & different times ( leave man-made legislation out of the equation )...

In case you haven't followed any of the recent news women, even "legal adult, female[s]" can be pedophiles...Just saying.

Apologies for misconstruing the intent of your post, though you'll have to afford me some leniency as your's was not a question typically presented by the fairer sex.

Typically though, in most states "16" IS the "legal age of consent", so I'm a bit confused about your perspective on the matter.

Thereafter it boils down to the stigma discerned from the number of years that separate the parties' ages, i.e., a matter of societal/peer perception, that and the individual parties own degree of conscientious development.

You're the typical female pedophile, thinking it's OK for adult women to rape 16 year old boys, just because you believe that 16 is the age of consent in most U.S. states.

Listen you pervert:

Because of sickos like you, little boys are ruined and scarred for the rest of their lives. Society needs to lock you away for life in a cell together with Big Bertha who'll teach you some "lessons" on a daily basis...
