3 Now I did quit again, gum, lots of water food, proper exercise is helping me commit. I tell you it's hard though. The hunger, the need, sometimes i just find myself scrounging on the ground looking for cigarette butts to roll up. Its tough, god it is sooo tough. I wonder how i got there and go back and try to relax. I find myself after every meal or break times fiending for a cigarette, at night I feel like a vampire(or what I've percieved vampries as) scouring in the darkness Thirsting for this hunger to be satisfied, it drives me up the wall. Yeah ok i hate this thread please delete it =( |

3 I lost my sense of smell (can't smell coffee even or burning toast) and smoking was listed as one possible cause, so I quit. 6 months and I haven't missed it. But still cannot smell anything any more. Got an MRI and they said not a blockage or tumor or alsheimers so I guess there's nothing else to try. Makes me wish I had more bad habits to give up so at least I'd have hope. |

1 Thank you for the support, and 3 cheers for those who have already quit!! I know quite a few people who have quit, some with the help of the patch, some cold turkey, they all say they still get the urge from time to time, but none of them are desperate enough to start again. I'm still at it, it makes feel like a weakling. I can always find an excuse to have one more, but each one is going to be my last one. Each time I buy a pack I tell myself when this pack is empty I am not buying another one, especially with the price going up to over 5$ a pack. You would think the price alone would be enough to make me quit. Health wise I can't seem to get over a simple cold and I sure don't have the enery or stamina I use to have when running or chasing grandkids around. March 18th 2009, that is my goal, no more cigarettes, can I do it???????? Dear God let it be so!!! |

1 Smoke it bud, it is one of life's finest pleasures if you don't resist it ! If you ever really want to quit, you will. If, however, you don't REALLY want to quit, but feel OBLIGED to, life can really become hell ( the inner conflict ). |

1 Hey THERE! Put the partial pack IN to the freezer and DON't touch it. Then YOU will know you are NOT really with out them, but that YOU choose to NOT have one. |

3 Hello, my friend. I am so glad you have found a support group. I quit for good over 14 years ago. I think when I started (12ish- sneaking my girlfiend's mothers) my body was saying WHAT ARE YOU DOING! We got horrible headaches and rolled on the ground holding our heads. But, we always went back for more. Shameful how addicting the cigarette is. I cringe when I see kids smoking today. The big lie!! They are so bad for us. I quit cold turkey. Never smoked during pregnancy. When I began to say enough of this, and tried to quit, and the cravings came on like a vengeance(and they will for you) I would go for a run/walk around the block. If my body was screaming at me to smoke and I was climbing the walls, I removed myself from what ever I was doing and did something physical. So instead of continuing to harm my body- I was helping to repair my body. In spite of its self. I am amazed at the hold cigaretts has on us. And I am amazed at the harm they do to us. I still crave a cigarette now and then- but can ignore it now. I Loved My Cigs! Will be praying for you. You are bigger than that craving!! You are and although it's a hard long road- it's sooo worth it!! Even 1 or 2 a day isn't a bad thing. 5 a day till you can control the habit of always lighting up in certain situations(the phone, your coffee in the am. the car etc.) Hope I can help. I'll be praying. Much Love and Many Blessings! |

1 OK, so now you're actually blaming your patents ? Don't you think you need to take responsibility for your own actions before will you have any hope to quit ? |

2 No, I disagree. In my opinion & experience it is the other way around. The body is a mindless entity, & acts selfishly & sometimes stupidly, unless contolled by the mind. All gluttony, lust & craving originate in the fleshly body. The mind should be in control. A disciplined mind will control the blind lusts & cravings of the body. What you perceive as your psyche craving to smoke, is merely your body's craving dominating the mind ( i.e. the mind is now slave to the body ). What you perceive as your body protesting, is actually the conscience of your mind protesting against its domination by the body's cravings ). It is very important to understand this ( understanding yourself actually ). Then the problem would be fairly simple to adress. "Mind over matter". Subjecting the flesh to the mind. Now the question is : "Who's in control ? The body or the mind". If you can work that out for yourself, you will be ready to address the problem. I am a voluntary smoker, because I like it. I am, however, in control. I can go without smoking for any period of time, if it is required of me, because my mind is in control. Exactly the same principle applies to diet, & to exercise. I know it works this way, because I regulate my own diet & exercise programme myself, & have helped countless people to do the same. The most important is to understand the relationship between mind & bodt, otherwise you may be barking up the wrong tree. I hope this can be of help. If you can accept & understand the principle, we can proceed to willpower & the role of the spirit. |
