I heard it said once that the reason [the TV show] Star Trek is so popular, is that it's the only future worth living in. Think about it; all races and cultures get along, pretty much all medical issues can be diagnosed with a tri-corder and then cured with a single injection, there's lots of free clean and endless energy for everyone... it's pretty much utopia. Then you compare that with today's IRL world, and what we have to look forward to with the overpopulation, pollution and coming energy shortages, well I see why TV shows and movies like that are so popular. It may be imaginary, but it's the only future worth living in.
