Although Reno was 10 hotter than here earlier.
Yeah, rare here, too. Typically humidity rarely falls below 50%.

I always watch the dewpoint numbers. Anything over 62 is uncomfortable. I think the highest it's ever gotten here was a dewpoint of 81 with temps in the upper nineties....years ago.

Now that's beyond miserable. I've had it where the dewpoint was 70 with the temp at 72....still nasty!
Dewpoint will never exceed temperature.
That sweat just never leaves your body.lol
I'd take a 90 degree day with 58 dewpoint over a 70/70 anytime.

I've got zero humidity in my house.lol
If I place a can of cold pop on the counter....no 'ring' when I pick it up. No water whatsoever. This is only in the summer. Come winter with no ac...different story. You can see the water on the glass.

I still don't know what a dewpoint is - but any day it gets over 90 and 90% is fairly icky. Even for me.

You make a very salient point; it's the dew point more than the actual humidity.

When we are hot, but cannot have useful sweat, that's when the problems start.

Is why I have a 12v in my work van-- yes, it has A/C, but the fan, blowing, is more comfortable, even if it's still hot from sitting.

Wow. That's some dry air, that's what that is.

It is the point/temperature wherein the water in the air is saturated at the current conditions.

Once the atmosphere is saturated, then more water cannot easily be put into the air.

And this, sweating does not work-- there is "noplace" for the sweat to go, as the air is "full" (at the saturation point).

It also means that water in the air will begin to drop out onto surfaces.

Lowering the temperature will lower the dewpoint-- the point where the water condenses out.

That is exactly how A/Cs work: cold freon chills copper tubes-- the air passes over these, helped by many thin fins. As the air temp drops (as the heat is absorbed by the cold freon) water in the air cannot stay-- so it condenses onto those same pipes, where it's carried into a pan, and then dumped outside.

The resultant air, as it warms up a bit, from mixing with the hotter surrounding air, is much drier. More comfortable-- sweat will begin drying again.

Thanks for the link Mac - what's the sermon that is being talked about today?

;o)

Can we please keep the Zimmerman/Martin case off of the list?

What do you all think about all of the underwater ruins being discovered in the past years. With many being well over 6000 years old, it blows the biblical time of 6K yrs out of the room.

Does anyone find these archeological discoveries interesting?

I am so fed up with the Zimmerman/Martin cwap...
It's a big story down here, but I just want it to go away.

There were what, nineteen young black men shot dead in Chicago since the start of the trial.

Bet you can't name even one of them.

I cannot name even one.

The thing that really chaps my chain, though, is the poor woman who was convicted of being...

... too black in her own home.

You know the one, I bet: 20 years in jail, for shooting and missing her abusive husband.

1) she was a woman-- how **dare** she act like a man (by having and using a gun)

2) she threatened ... a **man**... even more heretical.

3) and she was black... did I mention that already?

.... meh.

Yes, I saw that one. It's a disgrace.

If she'd put one between his headlight and claimed abuse, she might have gotten away with it. Instead, she gets 20 years for being nice enough not to shoot him.

This is one reason we used to teach people "NEVER fire warning shots. If you're in enough danger to pull a gun, you're in enough danger to drop him".
