Guys, you all are full of it. Everything related to getting high is removed from Methadone. I've been taking it 4 times a day - every day since 2001. It does not kill pain. It is useless.
Those who abuse medicines will find that mixing different meds will cause different reactions. When you cross Methadone with the wrong meds, yes you can die. Women can die from taking viagra. Why would they? Dope freaks are idiots.
Only take what is prescribed. I take 120 Methadone per month - it is like eating nothing - it does not control the horrific pain I live with constantly.

Are you aware of how deadly methadone is? Visit my journal of how methadone caused Severe Brain Damage to my son, and subsequently his Brain Death.

We went through 16 days of hell in I.C.U. before my son was declared "dead" from Brain Death.

METHADONE KILLS. IT KILLS. WHAT PART OF THIS DOES ANYONE NOT GET???

IT KILLED MY SON!

www.myspace.com/tonja_teutonic

It will kill yours if you do not watch out, NOW!!

Methadone is out there now on the very streets you try to protect!! But is is not 2-legged predator, nor a 4-legged predator.

It comes in the shape of a very tiny pill and most would not know it if they saw it in the palm of their hand !!!

That is why METHADONE is so DEADLY !!!

METHADONE TREATMENT AND PROTECTION ACT OF 2009
BILL SUMMARY
PROBLEM: LACK OF EDUCATION.

<<<This article is much to long to post on this forum, but here is part of the Methadone Treatment And Protection Act 2009.
Just google to read all of it.>>>

"Solution: Provider Education:
Reason for Change: Methadone has a long half-life of between 8 - 59 hours, however, the analgesic effect is usually only felt for between 6 - 12 hours. This long half-life coupled with a significantly shorter analgesic effect means that is possible for dangerous levels of methadone to accumulate in the body as consumers take additional methadone seeking pain relief. High levels of methadone can lead to respiratory distress, cardiac arrhythmia and even death."

The METHADONE TREATMENT AND PROTECTION ACT OF 2009 is a bill that Senators John D. Rockefeller (WV) and Bob Corker (TN) are presently working with to have submitted into law. Both Senators have seen the substantial increase in Methadone-related deaths in both their states and the U.S., and are now trying to do something about this.

It's too late for my son, but as a mother, I don't want to see any other parent lose their child to a deadly, deadly drug that is now monitored about as closely as chewing gum is.

"Only take what is prescribed." IN A PERFECT WORLD THAT WOULD WORK. But, we do NOT live in one. How about this scenario...There are young, dumb kids full of c_m and just just wanna get high, high, high.

MY SON may have been a "dope idiot."
But hey, I still sympathize with you.

If you are continuing to take methadone when you clearly state it does NO good, than you may be a methadone addict..aka... a dope idiot.

I am waiting for the NEXT RETORT from Methadone defenders.

As usual, I will take what you stated in your defense of this deadly, highly addictive drug Methadone and shut you down in about 90 seconds...Ok, give or take a minute or two.

Death rates are on the rise due to this drug.
It only takes one pill or one dose to kill anyone who has no tolerance for opiates!!
Many people have died from methadone toxicity, even when it was prescribed to them?
How much methadone was your loved one able to get their hands on today? If you believe that someone you love will experiment with pill/downers, than WARN THEM. Please do this before it is too late!
Please read my profile at myspace. I have posted a journal there regarding the literal hell that we went through for 16 days after my son was hospitalized in ICU. My 22-year-old son Timmy was discovered by his roommate, NOT breathing. He had purchased methadone on the street and had taken it.
I have since updated myspace profile to include pics of my son in ICU and his funeral...all due to METHADONE INTOXICATION.
Want to judge my posts with a peanut symbol (meaning "NUTS" or a dull lightbulb, meaning ;STUPID, CLUELESS, WHATEVER!!")
Take a look at my son's funeral pics. Maybe a lightbulb (Meaning that you got a clue) will light up in your head and show you just EXACTLY WHAT METHADONE WILL DO....IT KILLS !!!

My son, 34, died from prescription methadone prescribed for chronic pain in 2008.
Methadone has an extremely long half-life (up to 100 hrs). That is the reason that it can accumulate in your body and cause central nervous system depression. It can also cause heart arrythmias.
Methadone is cheap. That is a big reason that it is prescribed for pain. Follow the money trail and you will see why it continues to be given out and continues to kill.
You have my deepest condolences on the loss of your son. I truly understand, having lost my only, dear son to methadone also.
There is information on the MAMA site about methadone - Mothers Against Medical Abuse.

I take 130mg of liquid methadone everyday and have done so for 3 years. NOBODY, not one person acknowledges the SUCCESS stories from methadone. It annoys me that nobody sees the good this drug does for people who are addicts. I broke my back in 2002 from a 70mph rear end accident (i was at a dead stop). My pain management doctor put me on a cocktail of many many many narcotics which made my body dependent on them. I went through 2 stints at an inpatient rehab which didn't work as I relapsed both times. Until I found methadone I was a complete mess eating pills at a lethal rate.

I have been faithful and on methadone for 3 years. I have not abused ANY narcotics or ANY other drug.

I RESPONSIBLY take my methadone like it is RX'd to me by the outpatient methadone clinic I attend.

I AM A SUCCESS STORY!

The reason you think methadone is so lethal is because people don't take the time to realize how dangerous ANY NARCOTIC is.

You can't mix medications with just anything you find. It took me a year to build myself up to 130mg and I did it safely under medical supervision.

Now, if a person whom has NEVER taken methadone OR has taken methadone and takes like 20 or 30mgs decides to take my dose, the person who has never taken methadone will more then likely die. The person whom takes the 20 or 30mg person will probably start to have signs of hypoxia and could go into respitory arrest.

The point is, RESPONSIBLE USE OF METHADONE. It is not deadly if you use it the correct way. If you abuse it then sure you're setting yourself up for problems; that is with ANY drug legal or illegal.

and VAL B: Mathadone has a half life of 18 hours and a full life of 36 hours.

I don't know where the hell you got 100 hours from but that is more then incorrect.

As you take methadone and build a tolerance to it it builds in your system. That is why the detox can take a long time.

Your son died from the abuse and misuse of methadone. There are responsible people whom use it as perscribed and finction just fine.

Promote Responsible use of Methadone! Hell promote responsible use of ANY MEDICATION!

ANY MEDICATION CAN KILL. That includes Percocet, Peradan, Lortab, Lorcet, Vicodin, Xanax, Valium, Skalaxin(sp) etc etc. All these drugs are dangerous and can be deadly.

there are many people who do take these drugs responsibily and don't die from it.

Hey Cap,
You are the one who is very wrong - do the research and you will learn that methadone has a much longer half life than you are quoting. You are lucky if your system tolerates methadone and hasn't killed you yet.
My son DID NOT ABUSE methadone. He was legally prescribed Temazepam, Carisoprodol and Methadone together. Should a doctor prescribe all three Central Nervous System drugs together? I don't think so.
It is great that methadone has been used by people successfully. That does not mean that it is a safe drug for many people. I have chronic pain and take a long acting form of oxymorphone and I have been taking it for over two years. I don't abuse it and I don't take other drugs that are sedating with it. Believe me, I know what severe chronic pain feels like.
Methadone is prescribed many times because it is cheap. So is prescribed for people who don't have insurance. General M.D.s are paranoid about prescribing a sufficient amount of oxycodone, dilaudid or some other med that doesn't have the propensity to build up in your body because of scrutiny by the DEA.
Read up on the heart arrhythmias that methadone can cause. It is very scary. You do not have to have heart disease to die from a heart problem cause by methadone.
Methadone will continue to be the 'golden cow' for drug addicts. Suboxone and a few other drugs could be used for detox but I guess they are not as desirable. Why do addicts tay on methadone for life? They must be getting something nice out of it if they cannot wean off of it.

I think if it were me, I would get in touch with an addiction doctor who is familiar with the best way to wean off of Methadone. There may be substances (prescription and natural that help). If that is too costly, there is a lot on the Internet that describes what the withdrawal is like. Hopefully, since you haven't been on it a long time, it won't be very difficult.
You are making the right choice. There are many other medications that are much safer. Long lasting medications for severe chronic pain with breakthrough meds can help us deal with pin that we live with each day.
My pain doctor, who I met in 2005, has literally been a lifesaver for me since I was having a very hard time coping with pain given the inadequate pain medications I was given. He first gave me Methadone. It made me very sick to my stomach. I find that if my body immediately rejects something, there is usually a reason why.
Pain management doctors have the training and licensing to offer many choices in medication. They understand and are open to many approaches to dealing with pain. My pain doctor is a physiatrist who can perform trigger point injections, epidural injections in the spine and nerve blocks, etc. Not everything he has tried has helped, but he is open to trying different things.
I don't know how I would be trying to cope without a pain management doctor at this point. My son had a general M.D. for chronic pain and he died at age 34 from multiple prescriptions, all from the same doctor, taken as prescribed. At one time he went off of methadone, cold-turkey and he said that was the most awful experience of his life.
I wish you the best of luck in finding the best way to detox from methadone and finding the best treatment for you.

A few days ago I was obtained 15 10mg Methadone tablets from a friend. I have a slight anxiety problem so I do take Xanax a few times a week as needed [no more than 2 or 3mg at a time] I decided to experiment with the methadone by taking 50mg's. I was reluctant to take that much but figured since i take opiates it would be okay i took about 3 or 4 mg's of Xanax soon afte... Next thing i know i was being woken up the next morning my hearing was gone and I was talking like a deaf person. I didnt go to the hospital but went back to bed afterwards woke up a few hours later and my hearing returned.... lukily i survuved for all of you that read this DO NOT MIX METHADONE AND XANAX if you decided to take methadone take it in low doses no more than 30 mgs it takes a few hours to kick in and has a long half life in your body so dont take more soon after it will KILL YOU.

It has been 2 years now, and the pain, the guilt, the horror, the drama is still with me and all of us. I now know it will never go away. NEVER!

Methadone still continues to flood our streets like french fries from fast-food establishments.

MORE AND MORE 20-30 SOMETHING YEAR OLDS CONTINUE TO DIE EACH DAY FROM METHADONE AND OTHER OPIATE PILL OVERDOSES, WHILE AMERICANS and OUR GOV. FOCUS ON SMOKING CIGARETTES AND THE ILL EFFECTS THEY POSE TO THOSE WHO SMOKE 40-50 YEARS LATER.

I hit a tree going at approx. 35-45 MPH in 1995. My right hip dislocated. It was RESET WITH NO SURGERY, and then several weeks later it dislocated again. Fast forward to several years, my hip stiffens, "locks up" on me if I sit down for several minutes. Now, fast forward several more years later, my hip is almost useless. I can get up and do some housework, laundry, cooking, but after that, I must sit. I have to. The PAIN IS TOO INTENSE. If I try to get up and walk around, I limp big time.

Have I ever taken methadone for this problem with my hip?? NO! I have lived with this pain now for over a decade. I only take aspirin for it. Oh, I have also been diagnosed with Degenerative Disc Disease as well.

I only take aspirin for that, and glucosamine/chondroitin for that as too!!

You that talk about all this horrible pain you are in...give me a break!!!!
