Let's hope so. Socialism works better than pure capitalism by far.

I'm pretty sure your kidding about that, but just to make sure I want to know if you are serious. Because last time I checked Stalin killed thousands of his own people, and China killed its own citizens at Tiananmen Square, among other atrocities.

Hasn't worked better anywhere yet, and considerably worse in most places.

I think socialism would be a terrific alternative to what we have now. At least we would benefit from the taxes we pay.

Socialism is not as bad as you think.
As an example you already use this at a certain level right now.
Your education is paid through taxes and your children go to school for free. That is one example.
Canada has that and also medical services in the same manner. It's not perfect, but no one dies from an injury if they cannot pay for the medical treatment. Just walk in and get the help you need. No questions except providing your medical card which all get for free.
Do you regard the way your education system is offered as wrong or scary or against the american way?

I'm pretty sure the idea of socialism as seen in parts of the free world that offer health care, education, college, and the opportunity to work as seen in England, and the Scandanavian Countries....not dictatorships that limit freedoms. The idea is not so foreign when you see places it actually works.

I think people immediately associate it with Russia, and China rather than countries where socialist ideas are acutally working well for everyone. At least we would benefit from the taxes we pay. Capitalism is no longer effectively in the US. The major corporations that own and run the US has about driven this country into the ground. Here is the definition of Socialism:

Socialism is a socio-economic system in which essential industries, social services, property and the distribution of wealth are publicly and cooperatively owned and democratically controlled with a view to equal opportunity and equal benefit for all.[1] Since the ownership and distribution of wealth is controlled by the whole community as a collective, and not individually or by groups of individuals that do not comprise a whole community, socialism has been identified with communism. In a practical ideology, members of the community would contribute as much as reasonably possible, yet they would be capable of consuming as much as reasonably necessary.

You mention how corporations are owning America, and to a certain extent corporations have played a role in politics through funding of various politicians; and when regulations cause business and government to get in bed together, which ironically is what the liberals do; who are often the people who support socialist policies. But when you deregulate corporations and when you cut taxes on corporations, thus letting the invisible hand of the free market take care of problems, them you have a prosperous and healthy nation. Capitalism has its ups and downs, but overall it succeeds. If corporations are regulated then it's not capitalism, it's corporatism.

I will never choose to live in a socialist country. I don't want to live in a false utopia where everybody is interdependent on one another. I like a small government where the people provide the services, through private ownership of industries and through sales. Why on earth should America, which has a long rich capitalist history, become socialist?

Actually, the reason our public education is so poor here, is because of the government monopoly. According to PISA 2006 U.S. education in Math and Science is below the international average.

http://www.centerforpubliceducation.org/site/...

And in 2003 15 year old students were ranked 25th in the world.

Other nations also have government-run education, but there is a choice of where they could go, and thus competition brought increased quality. In the U.S. students must go to the school in their district, unless they have a voucher. But most people are limited to their district.

Obviously there are other factors that go into why America has a mediocre education system, even though we are the last remaining superpower. But you cannot doubt that one main reason is that since we have a government monopoly and no completion we are failing.

We are far to big for socialism to work as well in America as it (supposedly) does in smaller European countries.
Sure, in theory it sounds great, but the reality of it would be a complete nightmare. One that is all wrapped up in a big chaotic mess of red tape.

That just shows you don't really know much about the world. Nearly all the nations that have a better standard of living than the United States are socialist nations.

Are you on drugs? That is the exact opposite of the truth. Letting the free market take care of problems ends up with a system where the only people being taken care of are corporate executives, like the system we have now.
