Why is it illegal? Because most of them are kids that are part of human trafficking.

that's untrue, most of them are not kids. a number are trafficed yes but they're not 'most of them'.
if it were legal everywhere then it would be out in the open and the police would have an easier time of finding those who were being kept from trafficing. And, there would be no excuses from 'johns' that they didn't know because if someone is locked up in a room somewhere then chances are they're trafficed and not a working girl (or boy).
being out in the open would also give local residents some peace from kerb crawlers and the street walkers as they could be in the places they've been pushed out of because of fear of arrest.
it was made illegal, I think, because of the difficulty in regualting it. it's hard to prove money has changed hands for services and it's not just a pick up with no money being exchanged, or that sex has happened......so it makes for a tax problem. And, there's the crossover between morality and law, and what's supposedly good for us. with condoms, there's little if any significant increase in health risk btw

In many other countries it is not illegal. In those countries there are some that have government regulations on being in the profession where they get tested and such.
USA could make a lot of money by making this rather humanly natured aspect legal. So what if someone wants to make money by having sex? Is that not what porn is?

yep, and why not. It's called the old profession and making it illegal hasn't stamped it out has it, so why not make it legal and stop wasting police and courts resources and stigmatising people with it. Shouldn't be up to the law to decide morality when that morality affects only those concerned.
Think of the money that could be saved and earned by governments, money that could be used to tackle human trafficking and sex slaves, which would incidently be easier to spot once regular prostitution no longer has to be hidden. And yes it is what porn is, and indirectly if you go from that traditional marriage...people used to marry for security not love and it didn't used to be a crime to rape in marriage......no I'm not advocating going back to those bad things, just saying it's comparable to a domicile service contract between two people.....

Regardless of anybody's moral opinion of the evils of prostitution,
the main reason it's illegal is it's like regulating the corner drive through "Che' Coffee" stand.
It's so easy to cook the books with a cash business the IRS doesn't know how to regulate it for taxation.
The other issue for prohibiting prostitution are jealous housewives that realize they must now compete with makeup and clothes to match the local "healthworkers' hanging around town.
They hate leaving their sweatsuits behind.
