On last week’s episode of The Office, a guest star made a surprise visit to Scranton. Golden Globes host and comedian Ricky Gervais crawled back into his role as David Brent, the English equivalent of Michael Scott.

Michael Scott (Steve Carell) and Brent meet in the hallway. The characters soon find each other in their humour and after a couple of racist jokes, Michael spontaneously hugs the man.

David asks Michael if they are hiring. Could this be a hint on Ricky’s Office comeback? As you may already know, Carell will be leaving the show after the current season.

The comedian has already announced that he will not fulfill the role of regional manager on the NBC series. Of course, this doesn’t withhold fans from speculating on Brent’s possible role on the series.

The Office airs Thursday’s 9pm on NBC.

Ricky Gervais has no talent. His BBC show was a minor hit despite him, and he's been coasting since then. His 15 minutes are long past finished.

Actually Ricky Gervais created the office and was the original Michael Scott. The American version of the office was a knock off of Ricky Gervais Office right down to similar characters and plot lines.

It was a huge hit. Maybe you didn't like it but it did have a huge following.

I adore Ricky Gervais. I would love to see him take over the role, but I also heard that Stephen Colbert is supposed to fill the spot as Michael's brother.

Its funny, a lot of names have been tossed around. I think Rocky's guest spot on the last show was what started the rumor mill. I don't think that the British humour would be received as well by the American viewer so having Ricky as Michael's replacement might not go over as well.

I've heard a few names tossed around such as Will Ferrell, Harvey Keitel as well as a few others. I'm kinda curious as to how they'll write Michael out.

I have thought about this a lot and could never think of a great replacement for Michael. When I wrote about this a few months back ( http://tvhamster.com/the-office/163-steve-car... ), my best guess was to promote Darryl. After Gervais' appearance on the show, all possibilities are back on the table.

About British humor: Wouldn't it be possible for Gervais to adapt to the situation? After all, The Office has a solid team of writers and actors who write the lines together. I don't think it should be a problem at all, unless Ricky is really rigid, refusing to tell other people's jokes (?)
