China does not need to worry about what other countries say. China just need to concentrate in doing a good job for the Olymipics. If some people want to boycott it, let them be the losers. Dalai Lama is innocent. He was chased from his own homeland...they would have killed him had the been able to capture him. He is a lifelong monk and is # 1 in Tibetan Mahayana Buddhism. He has always endorsed peace, compassion, etc.

He is a world icon and his memory and fantastic legacy will outlive him by many hundreds if not thousands of years. All of China's problems here are of their making--their karma. I've read the peoples daily a few times and it is total, complete, unbelievable fiction. They villify the Dalai Lama on a regular basis which to most non communists is mind boggling and stranger than fiction.

He has written so many books, etc, etc. He is a Nobel Peace Prize Winner. He was recently awarded America's highest award---it was given to him personally by the leader of the free world (like him or not), George W. Bush.

Sure the movement will die, along with Dalai Lama. Once he dies, who else can succeed him? This is what the government is counting on, that is why there is no way he is returning to Tibet. According to Tibetan belifes, the new Dalai Lama can only be reincarnated in Tibet. So thee you have it, the new Dalai Lama will be Chinese :)

Tibetans would never accept a Chinese Dalai Lama. No doubt China and the Tibetans will pick their own Dalai Lama....just as with the Panchen Lama....

Hourly, what about yoou? Do you have a job and being a productive part of society or just another activist getting handout from some foreign government agency?

You are welcome to dispute the legitimacy of the new lama when Dali Lama dies. But I doubt you can and people will take your word over anyone else. So at best, people accept the new Lama in Tibet and the Tibetan religion lives on. OR they can forget the religion and turn to materialism and join the modern world. Either way, there is no more leader for Free Tibet.

I've also said Tibet is part of China but only because it was invaded (without provocation) and conquered in the 1950. The proper term would be occupied but make no mistake, I have no illusions, Tibet will never be free and independent again. Their country is toast.

As for the Tibetan exile communities, they will continue. The Lama game Tibetans vs China will continue too I assume

Same arguements as before I see. Well, to be invaded Tibet needs to be its own country first. So do me a favor, go to wikipedia and look up history of Tibet. Can you justify tibet being its own country after the mongol invasion? At most, tibet became a culturally distinct region of China which is similar to Quebec in Canada. It had received no formal recognition from any country and no approval of independence from the Chinese government so claiming it was a country does not stand.

I believe the Tibetans are using their cultural distinction and woe people who doesn't understand into thinking it was a country. Well, it was but then the Mongols ended it so your grief should be with the mongols. Anyway, to claim independence based on just cultural distinction is not justifiable since many culturaly distinct groups live with one another in the same region. Like Hawaii which was a kingdom taken over by the US, native americans, whites and blacks who all lived under one flag. And don't say the minorities in Us even today is being treated better than the tibetans by the US government if you don't know the facts. If tibetans really want, I don't think the chinese government will have a problem with letting tibetans open some casinos though.

As for resistance, sure there will always be radical people. But no way they will get the international recognition today without their flag ship. So there you have it, it dwindles and when even the native tibtans are too busy doing business to care the movement will die.

People always think keeping tibet primitive is a good thing, I really don't understand that. How about try living as a religious hermit for a while then tell people its a better life style. People just don't get majority of them are just ordinary people like all of us with desire for a better and more convenient life.
