I officially (read: legally) emerged from childhood just a few months ago. All I can say is:

1 - We've inherited a suckass mess from you older folks,

2 - We will inherit history's biggest suckass debt from you older folks because you wanted all your old-people entitlements without paying for them,

3 - There are far fewer of us to work to pay that debt because you older folks fought for the "right" to slaughter future taxpayers in the womb, leaving only the survivors of your holocaust to pay the bills you have racked up, and

3 - If we suck it's because we were raised that way by suckass parents, and

4 - It's unfair to lump ALL kids in with the suckass ones who get all the attention in the news and stuff. A few of us DON'T suck ass.

Oh, and by the way, every generation's parents probably said the same thing about other people's children.

“Children today are tyrants. They contradict their parents, gobble their food, and tyrannize their teachers.”-- Socrates 4th century BCE

"I see no hope for the future of our people if they are dependent on frivolous youth of today, for certainly all youth are reckless beyond words... When I was young, we were taught to be discreet and respectful of elders, but the present youth are exceedingly wise [disrespectful] and impatient of restraint." --Hesiod, 8th century BCE

"What is happening to our young people? They disrespect their elders, they disobey their parents. They
ignore the law. They riot in the streets inflamed with wild notions. Their morals are decaying. What is to become of them?" --Plato 4th century BCE

Yes, Timmie, the old have always complained about the young.

Hey Timmie!
While I fully admit the "suck-ass" condition of the country today is the result of the older generation, not all of us are responsible for it. If you check back in American history you'll find it was Reagan that really started the downhill slide of our economy by de-regulating the big industries that were normally held in check by those regulations. This allowed the filthy rich to dominate everything and just get richer at the expense of the poor. After that, things just went to hell in a hand basket.

I do, however, take exception to your saying that all of us "old folks" are living on "old people entitlement" money we didn't earn. I'll have you know that I paid into Social Security ever since I was a teen-ager and now that I'm old enough to retire, I want that money I paid in to the government. I worked hard all my life and I have a legal right to my SS claim.

You said it was unfair for us to lump all the youngsters into one catagory; aren't you doing the same thing to us "old codgers"?

In all fairness, and respectfully, Old Hoot:

1 - If we taxed consumption instead of income, the rich would certainly pay more. I don't think we can blame a champion of free-market capitalism like Reagan for the decline of the economy.

2 - What you paid into social security is minuscule compared to what you'll collect, and my generation will never know retirement as yours does. Retirement will be impossible for us because social security will be long-since bankrupt because the entitlements have outpaced the intake to the fund. Our only hope is private pensions, which the Democrats want to raid so they can spend it on yet more entitlements.

3 - Perhaps I have unfairly lumped all older folks together. If so I apologize for such hypocrisy.

It really is remarkable how at least previous generations have mortgaged their children's futures to pay for "entitlements" though. That seems unnatural to me. Parents ordinarily want their kids to have better lives than they did. But when it comes to "the other guy's kids, they're okay with passing on their debts instead of their savings.

Timmie, I am a member of the flower power generation, ran in the summer of love. And you are right about the mess your generation has been left with, I couldn't do enough to stop it by myself. Sorry.
Anyway, you wanna talk about crap heaped upon a generation?
We got dumped on for sure and still do get blamed, mabey there's some truth in the accusations.
Too late to worry now.

BUT...some of the things I've learned are,
Always be big enough to reach down and hold the hand of a child in need.
Never refuse giving somebody the basics they need if you can help.
No matter how much you give to help the needy it won't leave you broke.
Remember God, Jesus, Karma or whatever, what goes around comes around.
Learn how to use a firearm, own one of you can, they do come in handy.
See you round the campfire when the dust settles.
