Britain's 46 homicides involving firearms was the lowest total since the late 1980s. New York City, with 8 million people compared to 53 million in England and Wales, recorded at least 579 homicides last year.

Hard to argue those statistics

I'm confused. So, okay it's still early, bear with me. You mean there are 8 million people in NYC and 53 million in England & Wales total, right? And Britain has a law against guns I'm guessing? I haven't read into this, I'm just asking.

I am going to get a gun when I turn 21 next year. With all the crazy shit going on in America, being a 100lb girl I need some way of protecting myself! What else should I do?!

There has never been a more obvious need for strict gun control in the U.S. than now, in the wake of the Virginia Tech tragedy. We live in troubled times and the avaibility of guns makes this phenomenon all the more dangerous. Europe may have its knifings, but a crazy person wielding a knife can be subdued before they've killed dozens of people. Need protection? Call the police, install an alarm, and get a big, noisy watch dog. A gun will only end up in your killer's hands. Fight for gun control now. Condolences to the Hokies from a Wahoo.

I disagree. Gun control laws and campus regulations contributed to this situation. People have a right to defend themselves. Guns and other weapons are not going away, nor are evil/crazy people. England and Austrailia suffered a dramatic increase in crime after enacting gun bans. There are plenty of guns in both countries, most in the hands of criminals. Statistics show that guns save thousands of lives each year and prevent hundreds of thousands of other crimes. Usually, just the display of a gun stops most malefactors.

The idea of law-abiding people turning in their guns while criminals go wild is an insane obscenity that could only be proposed by someone very naive or sinister.

I say again, VA Tech's regulations that prohibit guns on campus (in a conceal carry state) for everyone resulted in a much greater tragedy. The police cannot and will not protect you, especially in a large-scale crisis (like Katrina) where criminals preyed openly upon the weak and defenseless.

Is it not odd that this shooting occurred during the annual NRA meeting, just like the Columbine shooting eight years ago?

Guess who DID pass a law on gun control? Australia! And Guess what happened to the murder rate? It went up. The only people with guns were criminals. And believe me, criminals will still have guns whether or not they are legal or not.
Besides, why would this kid who can shoot to kill 60 people care about a gun law? Are you serious?

LOL more asinine gun hater logic. Hey lock your doors and close your windows if you are scared of the outside world. Oh crap if you ban guns then you will be the law abiding citizen obeying the law as the criminals kills you with a gun.

Hey gun hater only if people are willing to defend themselves. It is clear you are not a person willing to defend yourself. You like all gun haters want to rely on others that are willing to defend themselves.

Let's not turn this into a racial thing. This kid lived here for 14 years. His family also lives here. It was a sad thing, but it's not racial. If you want no immigration, ever, you would still be in europe, most likely, or wherever you're from.
I'd still be here though!

Amen, brother, I just attempted to make this same argument on another thread. Just a few short years ago, British policemen (Bobbies) didn't even carry firearms. They brandished nightsticks. Even then, bad guys (thugs) thought twice about shooting an un-armed policeman. There's something about the culture, over there, as compared to ours. I mean, this country was settled by Englishmen; we were part of the Monarchy for centuries. What happened to us?

Oh great are you going to claim that Indian thing? If I recall all tribes did the same thing the Europeans did, they migrated from other areas. So you would not still be here. Oh and if there were tribes there before the other tribe guess what, they were attacked and killed off or enslaved by the invading tribe.

The world has gone to shit, that's what happened. No one is safe anymore, you can't trust anyone. Not too long ago here in memphis a woman saw this lady with a baby and a stalled, broken down car, so she pulled over to help by giving her a ride. This woman with her newborn child gets in, rides for a minute, then kicks the innocent woman out into the road, taking off with the car, only to crash it into a house; then she gets out and runs, leaving the baby in the car.
CAN'T EVEN TRUST A MOTHER WITH HER CHILD?!

Last week the first amendment was under fire by the liberals this week it will be the second amendment.I'm surprised they haven't blamed Bush. Oh wait this just in, it is all Bush's fault!! Its been confirmed by our trusted media. The Korean who did the shooting after all was just a victim of our capitalist society, and it was Bush's fault that he felt oppressed. It had nothing to do with the fact that guns were banned on campus violating our right to bear arms.No couldn't be, there's no story in that.

I know, I know. Over in Iraq, the terrorists (insurgents) are now using babies and children to gain access to restricted areas, then blowing THEM up
with their intended targets (innocent civilians, and American G.I.'s. As Thomas Paine once said, "these are the times that try men's souls." Hang in, there!
