Luxury awaits retirees at Cliveden Village

Where once this sort of service was offered only in luxury hotels, and later became standard in most new apartment developments where timepoor young professionals needed the help, older people are now piling on the bandwagon.

Pawel Chamski, estate manager at Cliveden Village in Taplow, Buckinghamshire, a development of contemporary houses and apartments for the over-55s, works five days a week overseeing day-to-day life within the development, dealing with everything from landscape maintenance to restaurant advice.

He offers a range of personal services for residents, including accepting deliveries and co-ordinating social events. He also looks after keys, helps with travel arrangements and has information on theatres and amenities.

His maintenance duties include overseeing rubbish collections, litter removal, help with recycling, gutter and external window cleaning, railing, fencing, lighting, servicing of the lift and boiler and other communal amenities.

When Mr Chamski is not working, security at the development is provided by the 24-hour CCTV recording system. Entry to Cliveden Village is via an electric entry gate with key fob system for added security.

Cliveden Village is on land developed by the National Trust next door to the historic Cliveden Estate. A past home of royalty as well as the famous Astor family, Cliveden has a colourful and prestigious heritage. The Cliveden country club boasts an exclusive membership list restricted to no more than 300.

Buyers at the village can apply for membership when a vacancy arises but perhaps the most popular attraction, apart from the properties, is the private access that they enjoy all year to the beautiful gardens. There are also 16 acres of grounds and woodland within the development that can be seen from the dual-aspect rooms that form part of every home. Two new detached properties have just come to the market priced from 1.1million apiece.

Jamie Woodrow, marketing manager, describes the homes as "la creme de la creme".

He said: "They are more than just a fabulous contemporary-style home located in an enviable woodland setting. They present a prestigious, exciting and somewhat aristocratic lifestyle due to their prime location at the development and the social and leisure facilities available."

Also currently available are two and three-bedroom apartments and houses priced from 350,000.

Nearby amenities include restaurants and leisure facilities and the village complies with the highest standard of environmental and ecological credentials.

Once completed, Cliveden Village will comprise 131 contemporary houses, apartments and penthouses. Although it is age-restricted, Cliveden Village is not a retirement development in the more traditional sense.
