The thing people don't realize, is that when you get to that point, your no longer thinking clearly.

A coward couldn't pull the trigger. A coward couldn't tip the chair over. Suicide is anything but cowardly. What it is,is, a disease manifested to its peak.

An alchoholic can relate, why does he keep reaching for the bottle? He has a disease thats cunning and baffling.

If you've never been depressed, I mean clinically depressed, just take the saddest moment of your life and multiply it times 100 and you might sort of understand. It's not that the person thinks they can't take it anymore, but they really believe they are doing the world a favor by committing suicide. God love those who suffer from depression.
Indeed. One of my trainers when I was working on the 7-11 route had depression. From what he told me of it I've never once been anywhere near it in my life. Wouldn't wish it on anyone.

Don't think much of Smith. I like Bret Baier and Wallace but usually miss him as that's my church time.

You left off powerful in that last paragraph..

Wait ... you been readin' my mail?

:)

I've been dealing with the same problems Williams struggled with (depression and addiction/alcoholism) all my life. Nobody, including me, ever caught on to the fact that I was battling depression until I was sober almost 7 years. I lost a daughter to the same disease(s) this year.

Even with that, I can't be too hard on Sheppard Smith.

A very smart person once told me that trying to explain either one of them to someone who doesn't suffer from them is a lot like trying to explain childbirth to a man. They can know all the facts, but the facts themselves suggest something so far beyond their own experiences that just doesn't compute for most people.

Hopefully he will learn something from this.

Willie, I hope you have found some peace. To lose one's child is the ultimate sorrow.

I once believed the same as Smith, altho' I did try to make a distinction between popular narcissistic "depression" and another class entirely of organic symptomatic depression. Then I "got" my own episode.

Life is all about teaching humility, even if we have a hard time recognizing it, but it is truly said, "There but for the grace of God, go I". Rider said it well as to it's sneaky and insidious nature - it creeps up and jumps in your head like something wholly separate from yourself. but over which you seem to have no control, barely in control at best. I'm thankfully well past it now, but the realization is always present that I didn't see it coming before, therefore it may come visiting again anytime, without notice. I still don't fully understand what caused it, or what it's nature was, physiologically. It was truly like a beast that came to rest in my head for a spell before moving on.

Even so, my one debilitating and horrifying experience (lasted a few months) also informed me that there must be more levels yet, for those for whom it's not episodic, as mine was, but that they must cope with their entire lives.

In the long view, Williams will be remembered for the sheer joy he brought to millions. While he was here, he truly lived.

Those old sayings like : don't judge someone until you've walked a mile in their shoes certainly come to mind when events like Robin Williams ending his life occur. Its hard to imagine a despair so pernicious .That being said I give Sheppard Smith a pass because such overwhelming despair is virtually impossible to understand without being a victim of it yourself.

Chris, if it comes down to a war, where they attack us in our our country, the streets will run red with Arab blood. We know it and they know it. They are cowards who are only bragging right now because they've successfully attacked some women and children and others who won't fight back. Fu#k their flag. Fu#k their religion. Fu#k them.

I don't know anyone who is afraid of them.

I wouldn't say I'm afraid of a caliphate but I do wish more had an understanding of how evil it is. Most Muslims that I've met and live here would be slaughtered along with all westerners because they like that we are free here to choose a path. What makes me sick are the children that are being brainwashed into pure hate of others and want a Jihad where anyone that doesn't submit is wiped out.

God bless Johnathan Gentry for saying something many think but wouldn't say out loud.

Minister Who Called Out Black Community Following Ferguson Riots Has a Message for Al Sharpton

On Tuesday, Johnathan Gentry became an Internet sensation when he went on rant against the black community following the riots in Ferguson, Missouri, and the shooting death of 18-year-old Michael Brown. Friday, he doubled down in a passionate appearance on Fox News, calling out everyone from President Obama to the NAACP and Al Sharpton.

“I hate to say this, but I’m going to tell you what you need to hear as opposed to what you want to hear!” Gentry, identified by Fox as a minister and who is based in Los Angeles, said earlier in the week.“All we know how to do is blame the police and white folks for our actions. That’s all we know how to do is blame police and white folks.”

“‘They mistreating us,’” he added in a mocking voice.“‘They beating on us. Oh slavery still exists. Oh oh.’ I’m sick of it!”

He started by asking Sharpton “Where were you?” in regards to shootings in Chicago and California.

“You only come around when something happens with the police or Caucasians. You’re not there for the black community so you need to stop fronting — and NAACP as well. I want to call them out as well! They’re good for nothing. All they do is perpetuate hate.”

In my city, which is a large city in the Midwest, They stationed police cars around all of the mosques for a couple of years after the 9/11 attacks. The Muslim people were that frightened. If another big attack happens on our soil, the police won't be able to protect them.

Many comedians and public figures have some sort of depression. Some of the most intelligent peoples unfortunately have or are suffering this sort of thing, and it is sad to see that many people just do not understand the pain these people go through.

One good thing that is helping to educate others on this, is that here in Australia, there is an organization called 'beyondblue. beyondblue is an independent, not-for-profit organisation working to increase awareness and understanding of anxiety and depression in Australia and to reduce the associated stigma.

I hope that you guys in America have an organization like this to spread information on depression - for those who have it, and for family and friends who want/need to understand more about this.
