‘Troubling’: Federal Judge Orders Obama Admin. to Disclose Document It’s Been Trying to Keep Hidden
Dec. 17, 2013

A federal judge Tuesday ordered the disclosure of a government-wide foreign aid directive President Barack Obama signed in 2010 but wanted to keep hidden from the public, Politico reports. The judge called the scope of the government’s argument for “presidential communications privilege” rather “troubling.”

The Department of Justice has argued that the Presidential Policy Directive on Global Development was covered by executive privilege, even though the information is “non-classified” and sends directives to agencies not to the president of the United States.

“Acting on a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit brought by the Center for Effective Government, U.S. District Court Judge Ellen Huvelle concluded that the presidential order is not properly within the bounds of the so-called ‘presidential communications privilege,’” Politico’s Josh Gerstein reports.

In her opinion, Huvelle wrote there is “no evidence that the [directive] was intended to be, or has been treated as, a confidential presidential communication.”

The Obama administration has maintained that the document was only intended for those who “need to know,” but the judge argued the order was “distributed far beyond the president’s close advisers and its substance was widely discussed by the president in the media.”

.Huvelle also lectured the federal government on its “cavalier attitude” when it comes to public oversight and transparency.

“The government appears to adopt the cavalier attitude that the President should be permitted to convey orders throughout the Executive Branch without public oversight…to engage in what is in effect governance by ‘secret law,’” she wrote.

The Obama administration will now be required by law to make the document available. It’s unclear why the administration has fought to keep the document hidden from the public."

CoS of MNSURE resigns.

Seems the website hasnt been running as smoothly as touted. Pat Kessler a leading political reporter in MN. believes we've been lied to about the site all along.

I thought something was amiss when I went to see an insurance agent and she told me There was only one provider for insurance my area, but, I argued MNSURE has two. Seems the website isnt up to date and/or has misleading info.

Also the plan she showed me which was available on MNSURE didnt correspond with any of the plans on the site.

My agent also told me that if you go on the ACA plan everytime your doctor refers you to a doctor out of the network, you have to have it cleared.

Lets say you go to your doctor and she says i want you to see Dr so and so, he's a specialist, you get that cleared and you see doctor so and so. He says I think you should see dr. X. You now have to schedule an appointment with your doctor so your doctor can recomend Dr. X. You just cant go see Dr. X even though he's been recommended. Lets say Doctorx then says we found another problem I'd like you to go see Dr. c you now have to go back to your doctor to get an excuse to see Dr. c.

Doesnt sound efficient OR affordable to me. In fact it sounds just like a bunch of bureaucrats got together and decided this was the best route.

Interesting 4 out of 15 of the overseers of the ACA in their states have been fired or resigned with more expected to be ousted soon.

Ya, obamacare is going to run like a well oiled machine any time now.

.I'm cutting little Megyn Kelly some slack. She's just trying to catch up to Rachel Maddow who I've heard has her viewership up to 311 and only 7 are family members!
In fairness to Megyn Kelly, her meltdown on election night was no greater or worse than the meltdown by others on her set.

You gotta admit, however, that the walk down the long hallways, disappearing out of camera range for a while, to interview the war room personnel was kinda bizarre...

As to Rachel Maddow - how is that relevant? I guarantee you I have seen hours more of Megyn Kelly than Maddow, because while I do watch Fox occasionally I can't remember the last time I tuned MSNBC

Besides, Maddow is a talking head. Talking heads are all alike - doesn't matter if they are liberal, conservative, whatever, and frankly I'd rather watch professional wrestling than a talking head because it's safer for your brain.

Oh, wait, I get it. I'm a lib, I made fun of somebody from Fox, so Maddow is somehow the proper comeback. Is that about it?

Hey folks,
I'm not sure when I'll be able to get on the thread before Christmas so I thought I'd take care of a message that Roberta asked me to send. She won't be on the BIH for awhile. As you know her husband lost his job and due to health problems is going to have a very difficult time finding work. So the old belt has to tighten which means giving up internet service at least for awhile. She found it difficult to say goodbye and asked me to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a wonderful New year. And you know Roberta, she means everyone. She certainly cares for everyone here. She hopes to be back, maybe by the end of January.
I know you wish with me that the new year brings her a much improved situation.
I also wish you a Merry Christmas. I'm going to be with my grandchild and that's about the only thing that keeps me away from this dang computer.
One more thing. Goodnight DS Higgins, whereever you are.(that's from me and Roberta)

1) I know zippo of how she conducted herself on election night. This is the first I'm hearing of it, but kudos going from commenting on just one host, to taking full advantage of the moment to illuminate an unknown number of "meltdowns of others on her set." Well done, Willie! Simultaneously catty AND crafty. You outdid yourself that time!

2) I admit to nothing. See the first sentence of #1.

3) Just casual response chatter, Willie. It's not a secret that FOX and MSNBC are adversaries and while you et al take potshots at a conservative FOX host for her unusual behavior, meltdowns, controversial Santa Claus opinions and other such riveting topics, it seemed only natural for me to toss out a name of someone whom I find to be equally ridiculous on an opposing network.

4) Thank you for sharing.

5) That's about right, Willie. It's called tit for tat but you already know that. You're a championship player. Would you have preferred I use Martin Bashir? The ever drooling Chris Matthews? Melissa Harris-Perry, perhaps? Probably not, but in the future, maybe you could remember that "meltdowns" and "bizarreness" occur on both side of the aisle. They are equal opportunity afflictions and in the interest of fair play, it's important to remember that.

Doubtful. Not because such utterances have never originated from your keyboard, but because she'd much prefer folks think they originate solely from her own.

""meltdowns" and "bizarreness" occur on both sides of the aisle'"

It's about the only thing you ever really DO say, Willie.

It's not in what you've said. It's what you haven't said.

You have a habit, Willie, of turning out the lights out and pretending you're not home when those from your side of the aisle go beserk either behavorially or verbally. Why is that?

I can and hve slammed Cruz, Palin, Akin, O'Reilly, and others without coming up for air but hearing you call foul on anyone from your side of the fence, seems to be.......challenging.

Climate change is real? Even in Patagonia?
Now that's some Earth shaking info. Boy, I'll bet that will turn the scientific community on their heads. I think the consensus has always been that climates just don't change, never have and never will.
While you're down there, you should rent a long-board and start paddling east. I'll bet you can prove that the earth ain't flat, either.
