Homelessness intensifies in New York City:

The number of people living in homeless shelters in New York City has hit a record high.

The number of people living in homeless shelters in New York City has hit a record high, marking a 19-percent jump compared to 2012, a report says.

The Coalition for the Homeless released its 2013 State of the Homeless report on Tuesday, revealing that an average of 50,135 New Yorkers have been sleeping in emergency shelters as of January, which shows a 61-percent increase since Mayor Michael Bloomberg took office in 2002.

The agency attributed the increase in the homeless population to the prolonged stay of people in shelters, showing the average stay being a record 375 days.

Mary Brosnahan, the president of the Coalition for the Homeless, said,“Unimaginable just a few years ago, New York City now has the shameful distinction of being home to more than 50,000 homeless people, including more than 21,000 children.”

Child homelessness surged 22 percent in 2012, Brosnahan stated.

“New York is facing a homeless crisis worse than any time since the Great Depression.”

The report also indicated that the growing rate of homelessness in New York City reflects a broader national trend, with a rising number of families without permanent housing.

Meanwhile, a report released by the United States Conference of Mayors has found that the lack of affordable housing, rising poverty and unemployment are the root causes of homelessness among families with children.

Um okay.
We told him to get rid of obamacare. Too bad those 25 old guard 'big government' Senate Republicans didn't do what they promised. Then everyone would realize it was the Democrat controlled Senate that shut down the government, because Harry wouldn't have allowed the House bills to come to the floor for a vote.

But since those 25 Republicans voted for cloture with Harry's Democrats, he has enough votes for a simple majority to kill or modify House bills, and send the modified full funding bills back to the House.

The vote for cloture was the vote to fund obamacare. 25 Republican Senators voted against the voters wishes, and voted for cloture and obamacare.

The Tea Party Is Terrifying The Financial Elite And It Is A Glorious Thing!

A couple of years ago the media tried to puff up a bunch of useless protests, mostly by students and a few Leftist activists, called Occupy Wall Street. The reason OWS had any play at all was because in 2008 it was pushed into the face of all Americans that our government is mostly owned by a group of financial pirates businessman who have the power to make Congress give them billions of dollars so they can continue their multi-millionaire lifestyles.

But now the financial elites are afraid! Unlike OWS they are now facing a real enemy, and it is glorious to behold.

<SNIP>

The Tea Party is the only group successfully taking on the “one percent.” And while the media loved OWS as a failure, they hate the Tea Party as a success that is truly threatening the financial owners of this country. Politico.com even came out and admitted that the big problem with the Tea Party Congressmen is that they cannot be bribed by the billionaires:“Wall Street angry at tea party it has no influence over,”

<SNIP>

So despite all the claims that the Tea Party is merely the creature of the financial elites, the truth is that the Tea Party is a source of terror is those elites because they are not beholden to any such group. The Tea Party congressmen actually want to do right by the voters who put them into office.

The Tea Party is a truly democratic movement. As such the establishment fears it and wants to kill it.

The Name Of The Game Is 'Betray-The-American-People' And RINOs In Congress Are Playing For Keeps.

John Boehner finally listened to the American people. He drew a line in the sand and held firm on ObamaCare, even after Barack Obama and Harry Reid refused to negotiate and shut down the government.

Then Congressional RINOs - 20 at last count - made their move and started to spontaneously declare, for the record, that Boehner should snatch defeat from the jaws of victory... betray the American people... and surrender unconditionally to Barack Obama on ObamaCare.

Their rallying cry?... Forget the fact that we finally have the political advantage... give Barack Obama everything he wants before we're forced to keep the promises we made to the American people and derail the ObamaCare train wreck.

And without missing a beat, Mr. "I-Will-Not-Negotiate " Barack Obama then called John Boehner and Mitch McConnell to the White House to demand their surrender.

But thanks to the flood of phone calls and faxes by patriotic Americans like you, Republican leaders are standing their ground. And we must make sure it stays that way. We're not going to stand for any betrayal by a handful of RINOs unwilling to fight for what's right... we're going to nip it in the bud right here and now.

Since 1973, Israel has cost the United States about $1.6 trillion.

If divided by today's population, that is more than $5,700 per person.

This is an estimate by Thomas Stauffer, a consulting economist in Washington. For decades, his analyses of the Middle East scene have made him a frequent thorn in the side of the Israel lobby.

For the first time in many years, Mr. Stauffer has tallied the total cost to the US of its backing of Israel in its drawn-out, violent dispute with the Palestinians. So far, he figures, the bill adds up to more than twice the cost of the Vietnam War.

And now Israel wants more. In a meeting at the White House late last month, Israeli officials made a pitch for $4 billion in additional military aid to defray the rising costs of dealing with the intifada and suicide bombings. They also asked for more than $8 billion in loan guarantees to help the country's recession-bound economy.

Other US help includes:

• US Jewish charities and organizations have remitted grants or bought Israel bonds worth $50 billion to $60 billion. Though private in origin, the money is “a net drain” on the United States economy, says Stauffer.

• The US has already guaranteed $10 billion in commercial loans to Israel, and $600 million in “housing loans.”(See editor’s note below.) Stauffer expects the US Treasury to cover these.

• The US has given $2.5 billion to support Israel’s Lavi fighter and Arrow missile projects.

• Israel buys discounted, serviceable “excess” US military equipment. Stauffer says these discounts amount to “several billion dollars” over recent years.

• Israel uses roughly 40 percent of its $1.8 billion per year in military aid, ostensibly earmarked for purchase of US weapons, to buy Israeli-made hardware. It also has won the right to require the Defense Department or US defense contractors to buy Israeli-made equipment or subsystems, paying 50 to 60 cents on every defense dollar the US gives to Israel.

US help, financial and technical, has enabled Israel to become a major weapons supplier. Weapons make up almost half of Israel’s manufactured exports. US defense contractors often resent the buy-Israel requirements and the extra competition subsidized by US taxpayers.

• US policy and trade sanctions reduce US exports to the Middle East about $5 billion a year, costing 70,000 or so American jobs, Stauffer estimates. Not requiring Israel to use its US aid to buy American goods, as is usual in foreign aid, costs another 125,000 jobs.

• Israel has blocked some major US arms sales, such as F-15 fighter aircraft to Saudi Arabia in the mid-1980s. That cost $40 billion over 10 years, says Stauffer.

Stauffer’s list will be controversial. He’s been assisted in this research by a number of mostly retired military or diplomatic officials who do not go public for fear of being labeled anti-Semitic if they criticize America’s policies toward Israel.

1) You're either really naive or are simply posturing.
Voters don't TELL their representatives to just go and get rid of something in DC with a slap on the back and a 'git-r-done.' There is no, "BRING ME HER BROOMSTICK" demands put upon our reps. That's absurd. It's not realistic. Voters, bobin, are aware enough to know that isn't always possible, especially when the opposition has control of the senate AND is sitting in the WH.

2) WHAT did the senate republicans promise their constituencies?
That they'd successfully defund the ACA? You keep saying, "they promised, they promised." and I think you're making that up as you go along. Again, put that data out there. Let's see it. Show me where 25 republican senators promised their voters they'd absolutely defund the ACA.

“How has the government shutdown affected you?”

That's the question posted Thursday at 7:50 p.m. on the White House blog by Nathaniel Lubin, acting director of digital strategy for the Obama administration.

Don’t forget that at the top of the blog, a handy little disclaimer notes that “due to Congress’s failure to pass legislation to fund the government, the information on this web site may not be up to date.”

Obamacare Facebook Erupts with Citizen Sticker Shock

The information is not very complete as I don't see anything about deductible or other detailed info, but it does given an actual price as to the "Premium." It is VERY SCARY!! For example, my insurance plan right now for my spouse and I costs $545 a month with 100% coverage after my $2500 deductible. We are both 32 years old. When I looked at this site for 80% coverage it says it will be $954.78 a month!!!! So compare my old Plan: 100% coverage for $545 a month To New Plan: 80% Coverage for $945 a month. This is only an estimate but it is VERY Scary for me to see this kind of increase in rates and reduction in benefits!

Sure they may be free from Wall St pressure, but the reason is not because they are "not beholden to ANY such group". They receive funding primarily thru the FreedomWorks and Americans For Prosperity PACS. 4)Time will tell in the midterms who gets the blame. I do think by that point we may be seeing hyper inflation if so this will be long forgotten.
1) You may want to rewrite that sentence or add on to it or somthing. It doesn't make any sense as written.
2) Okay.
3) Huh? I'm not seeing the segue here.
4) Americans may or may not forget this at midterms, I wouldn't know but countries around the world who are already looking at us with a raised eyebrow and who have deep financial interests in the United States, might not.
This particular shutdown is being watched closely by global economists already nervous because of the debt ceiling issue and that is no small thing. An unstable America, or a dysfuntional, partially open American government is not good for reasons that go far beyond our borders Chris. There have already been negative ripple effects across the globe because of it. And I promise you, nations who are counting on us to pay our bills and fulfill mulitple other obligations we have worldwide, don't give a damn if a whole bunch of us over here are unhappy with some healthcare legislation. They want/need this country up and running.
WE need this country to be up and running.

Btw, one other thing I'm not sure Tea Partiers and the House has given enough consideration to. What goes around comes around in politics. And if this were EVER to work and it's discovered that just by shutting off the electricity via a reckless shutdown whenever a faction of the congress is displeased about something, you can pretty much set your watch to when this exact same ploy will play out in YOUR future, only orchastrated the next time by democrats.
Voters may forget about this. Politicians won't.
