The Freedom of Information Act is perhaps the most powerful instrument we have for making our government honest and transparent, and of holding it accountable.

The old rules said that if there was a defensible argument for not disclosing something to the American people, then it should not be disclosed. That era is now over. Starting today, every agency and department should know that this administration stands on the side not of those who seek to withhold information, but those who seek to make it known.

Going forward, any time the American people want to know something that I or a former president wants to withhold, we will have to consult with the attorney general and the White House counsel, whose business it is to ensure compliance with the rule of law.

Information will not be withheld just because I say so. It will be beheld -- withheld because a separate authority
believes my request is well grounded in the Constitution.

Let me say it as simply as I can. Transparency and the rule of law will be the touchstones of this presidency.
I'll give you a hint: the speaker said it in 2008.

What? I provided you the access key to an enormous amount of "proof". Is it really my fault that you didn't know how to use it? Hint: You've already got two-thirds of the search parameter, all you need to add is who's.
Good luck... GOOGLE is not nearly as difficult as that rascally "REPLY" button.

We have one gold star winner (Willie), on the Ollie North quote. Nobody has correctly identified the others, so I'll give the answers: The "undecideds" statement was made by GW Bush. The "pollution" one was Al Gore!

One more: "I love California. I practically grew up in Phoenix."

Who said it? Catcher gold star is the prize.

"Let me say it as simply as I can. Transparency will be the touchstone of this presidency."

I see only two 2 reasons Obama said that.

1) He intentionally lied.
2) He was incredibly naive.

It's probably fair to say that some-many-most candidates promise things they can't deliver but that transparency thing was a testament to how little he knew about what it means to actually BE President of the United States. The extreme kind of transparency he was talking about was ridiculous in the first place and would never even be recommended. Factor in the oily way he tends to operate and it made the fulfillment of the promise even more unlikely.

Either he didn't know about the nontransparent modus operandi that office often necessitates or he didn't realize what a manipulating, underhanded man he would become and had he known, it would have absolutely ruled out the transparency promise in the first place.

It was a foolish promise made by a Boy King.

Kinda reminds me of "I'm here with the Girardo family here in St. Louis."

Someday, maybe we can go one for one, trading Dan Quale gaffes versus my former Senator's... gaffe-master Joe Biden.(There is a very good reason why obama has Joe locked up in a dungeon in the WH basement while all the WH scandals are being investigated.)

One would have thought that, by now, barry would have gained some experience in foreign policy and negotiation skills. Unfortunately, that's not so, so he has to accomplish his transformation of America in secret.

Keep in mind, the sequester is keeping grade school kids from visiting our White House... I believe that program's cost is less than $10,000 a week, but obama and Congress had the money for all that krap!

Is America transforming like he had planned? It doesn't feel like we're transforming.

It feels like we're in a ditch.

President Bush ran us into the ditch, but a push could have gotten us free. However, once pResident obama got behind the wheel, with his inexperience, he started spinning the tires, and has been digging us ever deeper and deeper, making it nearly impossible to ever get out of the ditch.

That would be DC's Mayor Felon. That comment still causes me to chuckle.

How's this one, Marion... If you don't include rapes, assaults and robberies, it's safe for unarmed women to walk DC's inner-city streets alone after dark.

In case you haven't noticed, I frequently use "folks" too. It's a warmer, down to earth word for people. It just seems to be more friendly... and I'm not planning to quit using it. Sorry.
