Thanks.
But we aren't celebrating July 4th, we celebrate Independence Day and it just happens to fall on July 4.

If people want to celebrate with a worthwhile BANG, forget the fireworks and read The Declaration of Independence or The US Constitution.
They should never be forgotten.

Don't Tread on Me.

We should celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Ghent, February 18, 1815, which ended the War of 1812. That was truly when we gained our independence from the Crown. July 4, 1776 was just us justifying our rebellion, something which had already started on April 19, 1775 at Lexington and Concord.

You have certainly manufactured your own version of revisionist history.
I'll stick with Independence day as the founding of our great nation.

But instead of celebrating the Treaty of Ghent, I'd rather celebrate the Battle of New Orleans.

American forces, commanded by Major General Andrew Jackson, defeated an invading British Army intent on seizing New Orleans and the vast territory the United States had acquired with the Louisiana Purchase.

Despite The Treaty of Ghent having been signed on December 24, 1814 and ratified by the United States Senate on February 16, 1815.
Hostilities continued until late February when official dispatches announcing the peace reached the combatants in Louisiana, finally putting an end to the war.

The Battle of New Orleans is widely regarded as the greatest American land victory of the war.
Good Ol' Hickory....

"In 1814 we took a little trip
Along with Colonel Jackson down the mighty Mississip.
We took a little bacon and we took a little beans
And we caught the bloody British in the town of New Orleans.

We fired our guns and the British kept a'comin.
There wasn't nigh as many as there was a while ago.
We fired once more and they began to runnin' on
Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

We looked down the river and we see'd the British come.
And there must have been a hundred of'em beatin' on the drum.
They stepped so high and they made the bugles ring.
We stood by our cotton bales and didn't say a thing.

Old Hickory said we could take 'em by surprise
If we didn't fire our muskets 'til we looked 'em in the eye
We held our fire 'til we see'd their faces well.
Then we opened up with squirrel guns and really gave 'em hell

Yeah, they ran through the briars and they ran through the brambles
And they ran through the bushes where a rabbit couldn't go.
They ran so fast that the hounds couldn't catch 'em
Down the Mississippi to the Gulf of Mexico.

We fired our cannon 'til the barrel melted down.
So we grabbed an alligator and we fought another round.
We filled his head with cannon balls, and powdered his behind
And when we touched the powder off, the gator lost his mind."

I really wish the US remains the world superpower for several decades more. Don't let China become the new world superpower and the US becoming the new Britain like 2nd lesser superpower.

Happy birthday America!

China has been known as the sleeping giant.

After Mao's death, under the leadership of Chairman Deng Xiaoping they, after 5000 years, decided it was time to modernize and start to develop. This process began around the year 1979 and continues today.

And many predict that China will be the world's superpower in the next 2 decades.
