To be completely honest there never was a need for unions. Back at the turn of the last century the communist tried to spread their communist beliefs using unions. They would go into a factory and tell the workers how bad things are. and how Management is taking advantage of them. How Management makes hundreds of dollars while the true money earners the workers are getting pennies. They point out how unsafe a place is to work in and how unsanitary. Then they told the workers to go out on strike to improve their lot. They call it collective bargaining when in reality it is nothing more than blackmail.
It worked in Europe in places like Russia and China however it did not work as well here in America for one very simple reason. Our free market.
If a person does not like working for someone else they are free to quit their job and either go to work for someone else or start up their own business. The unions have tried to stop that by telling their members that they can only get work through the Union. Only the members never really bought into that as we have seen here over the past 30 years or so the union workers have been leaving the unions and finding work outside the union shops.
Yet another deterrent to mass unionization is our judicial system as long a a person has the right to sue a company in a court of law the unions will never be able to unionize this country.
If we did not have unions and never had unions nothing would have worked out any different that what they have only with a lot less blood shed and violence. Back in the early part of the last century the Unions not only beat up and killed what they called scabs but any worker who refused to join the union. Forced labor in illegal in this country and yet with the support of the Democrats that is exactly what the Union have done. Forced people to work jobs the unions dictate.
This country would be a lot further along and a whole lot better off if we had never had any unions.
Yes, and those 12-hour days for a few cents a day were fabulous. And those lazy-ass 11-year-olds should be grateful to have a dang job.

Yep being a business owner does require a lot of sacrifices.

Oh yea those were the exception and not the rule. Food Motor company, E. I. DuPont and others treated their employees fairly and paid them an honest wage.

Yes the garment industry and the coal industry were3 abusive but that was changing as machines were doing more and more of the work men use to do.

You see it was a lot like slavery. The farming machines were putting slavery and the slave business out of business. It was becoming cheaper to by one machine that was able to do the work of 100 slaves and in half the time than it was to maintain slave labor.

I have worked in several companies where the machines enabled us to cut back to a 4 day work week. When machines are able to out produce demand then it takes less time to do the same amount of work and people are not needed to work as long. Oh yea and as production quotas are met the company is still able to pay their employees a better wage. Oh yea I only work in non-union shops. Why should I be forced to pay someone else to sit on their lazy asses telling me that I have to go out on strike? Really what sense does that make. I have never been under paid and I work 50 weeks out of every year. No Strikes and no union dues.

I have family members who are Union Members and I earn more money over a 4 year period then they do. They go out on strikes at least 2 to 3 times during any given 4 year period which while out on strike they don't get paid. Meanwhile I am still working and I am still getting paid every week.
