A veteran Oscar voter predicts Michael Jackson 's " This Is It " will be nominated for best picture based upon its reception at today's academy screening.

It might be nominated but it won't win. Lots of movies have grossed hundreds of millions of dollars and not won an Oscar. "Star Wars" "Transformers", "Independence Day" etc. never took home an Oscar. Good movies? Just look at Crash, Schindlers List, The Pianist, Forrest Gump....those are movies with substance. This is a rush to release movie about a self imposed drug addict who stopped being talented in the 80's. Just another money making scheme by his lazy family whose goal is to never work a day in their lives while they live off of their brother's fortune. A brother whom they did NOTHING to save.

You are all dreaming. The boycotts that would arise from any movie about a pedophile being nominated for Best Picture would be staggering. Get a life, and move on. He was a freak and a pedophile.

MJ is a lot like being gay. He had an unconventional relationship with kids. It wasn't sexual. Normal society sees spending time with kids as "babysitting". They see all people who enjoy spending time with kids on the friend level as evil. They try to regulate your life and tell you who you can be friends with or not.

I'll respectfully disagree Hyrax. I don't see the paralells to a person being gay as appplicable, nor did MJ earn his reputation for just enjoying children. Sharing a bed with a child who is not yours or even a close relative is at best reckless, and Michael's repeated accusations of inappropriate toucing, etc, make him a suspect. His repeated incidents of paying off his accusers did nothing to alleviate my suspicions.

I wasn't going for a direct comparison with being gay. But it did make sense abstractly. Quite frankly, if MJ did do anything wrong to kids, then it's the parents fault for taking a cash settlement and not exposing him. Whether he did do anything or not is a moot point now. He was never charged with anything. He is dead, lets honor his accomplishments and move on.
