How do you know it's an error?

In the 2nd century, 70 rabbis agreed that it meant virgin, not young woman.

Why is your word above theirs?
1. Because we have teh Hebrew manuscripts from 200 BC that prove it.

2. That is Catholic myth. It never happened. The Septuagint was an unauthorized and poorly translated Greek copy of the Hebrew Scriptures.

3. Because I am smarter than 70 Rabbis that never existed.

Immanuel is the name to be given to one of Isaiah's three children circa 8th Cent. BC Judea.
The name translates as: "On our side is El".
Isaiah's other two sons are named:
Shear-jashub, meaning "a remnant shall return"
Maher-shalal-hash-baz, "the spoil speeds, the prey hastens"
Notthin in Isaiah is about a Messiah and certainly not a Jew 800 years inthe future with a completely different name.
You might as well argue that Little Robin Hood's kitten proves Ben Franklin was the only Emperor of France.

I find it strange that you wrote a five word sentence that has four words in English and one word in a Semitic language...

Just mix it up more.

"On our lado is El."

There. I added Spanish into it.

There is no mention of a Virgin Birth in the entire Hebrew Scriptures.
Where do you get this stuff ?
The animal sacrifices worked every year for 4000 years.
Was God lying to the Jews ?
Hellenization is a helluva' thing.

2. Says you. I don't believe you.

3. Oh boy.... They never existed?! Again, I don't believe you.

I know it was more a play on words but you may have a point! I know a lot of people that buy candy they like in case there are left-overs! Don't think when I dump my remaining candy I don't set aside a box of candy bars for myself! LOL

It's a shame they never look into the religious origins and mythos that surrounds what they believe represents reality.

I lived in Sherburn, MN. in the early ninety's. I didnt go to church a whole lot but made it there once in awhile.

The parish preist was an older gent that i never got to know well, At most I shook his hand and smiled at him after a Mass.

His name was Father Halloran. I later moved away from Sherburn and had heard that Father Halloran had retired and later died.

About 6-7 years ago I was perusing through the religous section of a Barnes and Noble and found and interesting book on exorsism. I got a cup of coffee sat down at a table and opened it at random and started reading. Not long after I came across a section that mentioned Father Halloran I didnt think it was the same Father Halloran but eventually it said he was now preaching in Sherburn, MN.. I found it quite interesting and had wished I would have known that back then, but apparently father doesn't like talking about his experiences with exorcism any way, and i doubt i was gonna be the one to change his mind.

I didnt buy the book that day but had the intent of going back to get it later on sometime. I dont recall what the name of it was, but I never did go back to get it. But since then I've learned that Father Halloran was the assistant priest at the famous exorcism of Roland Doe of St Louis. The possessed child the movie The Exorcist was based on.

Just thought some may find that interesting on this day..........

ben - "Notthin in Isaiah is about a Messiah"

the above statement of yours says it all for me - i have absolutely zero respect for your understanding of the Bible and therefore i reject everything you say about it and/or God.

When I lost one of my baby teeth, my nanny told me to put it under my pillow and the Tooth Fairy would come and trade me some money for it. In my little mind I called Bullshit but I went along with it. When I went to bed, instead of my tooth, I put a nice fat spider under my pillow. Guess who got busted?

As far as I know she never lied to me again.

That's what the archaeological and historical findings show.

Those people finding and making these discoveries are not just "atheists", many are theists, too.

As a matter of fact, there are theists within those fields and other related fields that have made some astounding discoveries.

But they aren't "bible and spade" scholars.

They utilize an *a posteriori* methodology.

So which of the three have the "archaeological and historical findings" found to be accurate?
