Good morning HFN;
Woke up to 33 degree weather this A.M. One degree above freezing.
First snows have happened already in the high country over the weekend. Getting time for extra covers on the bed, fire in a stove, stew in the pot and cornbread, oh yea heavy duty sweater.
Humm, think some fudge candy fit in real good too with this picture. Have a good day. God Bless you always.
Hey LW. If I come your way next year, I will show you how to heat your "stone" house for nearly nothing-and cook the same way. Minimal maintenance too. You will be absolutely amazed!

Unless you're indigent, a Catcher defense will cost you plenty.
But it's more than worth the price.
Thats probably due to supply and demand

Even most lawyers have certain lines they simply won't cross in order to sleep at night. One of those lines is that unless ordered by the court, they will not try to get a child molester back on the street they think is guilty knowing that not only their victim will not get justice but that it is almost a guarantee there will be future victims as well

So since there are not many lawyers who will do this, especially ones that claim considerable expertise, I'd imagine you could set your price. I mean, what wouldn't a child abuser pay to not only avoid being punished for his crimes but also to get the chance to continue them?

For a guy that claims a parent trying to instill morals send values in their children and teach them about God is tantamount to child abuse, you sure do have an odd approach to how you treat actual offenders. But money has a way of doing that to some people

I consider many here on both sides my equal in many respects.
I wish many here had the opportunity to have the education and life experiences I have had. I do not believe my good fortune makes me better.
However, there are some here who are willfully ignorant, pathological liars and despicable. Yes, I am much better than them.
I am not talking about the pissing matches and personality conflicts here. There are a few here that I consider to be evil people and use religion as an excuse for their evil.
I am not your equal. I am better than you on some areas, and lesser than you in others. That's what makes us individuals...and arguing about several subjects is how I came to that determination. We can teach each other in many respects, and I welcome that opportunity...and that is true for others as well. To pass up that opportunity would be tantamount to shooting one's self in the foot.
What I have noticed, is that many can not get past those "emotional" hurdles, and when that happens, the "intellect" shuts down to assimilation of any possible actuality and ideology altogether, and "learning" becomes impossible due to inhibition. IMO

It is one thing that I love about living in the city...being able to walk every where I want to go. Only about once a week I get in the car to drive to the grocery store where I can stock up on staples at a less expensive rate.
I am in better shape but more importantly...better health. I used to take a handful of pills every night just so that my knees and hips would ease up enough to sleep. Now I am down to about once a week with joint problems...I credit the walking.
Good to hear, Annie.

I have mostly lived in places where nothing was in walking distance, and often humidity, freezing or insects to contend with as well, so this is a treat for us.

.. instead of acting like mature adults, you demean others and usually end up in trouble, even in prison ..
.. you use religion to gain allies in your quest for vengeance against some unseen enemy and, like many shamed clerics, you do not believe societal rules apply to you ..
.. good people who believe in a Power greater than self are snookered in by folks like you; an internet version of Ted Haggard, David Koresh or Pat Robertson ..
.. it's time the decent folk on this thread awoke from their slumber and realize the damage caused in the name of Christianity ..
Nicely said, HL. They have essentially declared a tantrum.

My apologies to the thread, but I am unable to convince them to behave appropriately either on moral grounds - respecting my right to express sincerely held opinions about relevant and topical ideas - or tactical grounds - their tactic has zero chance of success.

And it doesn't look like they have any intention of adapting to that reality, so the die is pretty much cast. My intention is to remain on the thread indefinitely, expressing myself in accordance with Topix's TOS, and to deal with just one of these imps - Skombolis - until he stands down, while to mostly ignoring his idiot sidekick.

I will not accede to their nauseating Christian ethics that allows them feel that they are justified in tantruming and trollery - exactly what I have criticized Christian ethics for all along.

Who said Jesus taught love? Sorry, but that's obviously nonsense. As these self-appointed Christian soldiers amply illustrate, they come with their swords drawn.

Thank God your hate has not yet perverted the law to take an honorable person and insist they are child abusers. But we are well on our way. Its why only certain crimes are called "hate crimes". Take a bow bigot.
Q: Why shouldn't I give my children a religious education?

A: For the same reason you shouldn't beat them with a twisted rope.

It just depends on the mindset and goal of the person entering a debate.

People go into debates believing they are correct and with the desire to win the debate. That is just human nature. Although they also may want to succeed because they believe in will be beneficial to the person they are debating, to those observing, or both.

But people believe they are right, either factually or morally. And there is a difference between believing one is right and needing to be right.

Someone who believes they are right do so because its important to them that their facts and/or beliefs are the truth. And while pride always plays a role to done degree, at the end of the day if someone can show them otherwise or teach them things they didn't know they will accept it. They do so because the truth is more important than being personally right. A person should not put pride about truth.

But those that need to be right because they have already shown they believe themselves to be superior care more about maintaining their image than actually learning anything or the truth.

Those that need to be right because it is part of an over idea will never hear a word the other person says. If someone says Christianity is evil and they are morally superior to Christians, then they can not allow themselves to concede anything that might dispel that notion.

If someone just wants the truth then it doesn't go past whatever the specific issue is being debated. If just needing to be right is the goal, the subject bring debated is almost inconsequential. They simply are using it in furtherance of another agenda.

That's why some people on certain "sides" wouldn't concede water is a liquid if the person the are debating is on the other "side". And they go into the 'debate' believing the other person could never show teach them anything and with the mind-set to reject everything no matter what.

Most of what goes on in Topix are not real debates IMO. They are simply pretenses and exercising in pride, ego, and agenda

Like I said, everybody wants to be right. But there are some that need to be and for that reason, in their mind, they always will be.

I would like to see more of the debates you talked about. But alas, this is Topix

It would be funny if it wasn't so sad. Until I got hurt last winter I was working for co. that had all the 7-11's in Florida as the main account. Let me tell you it was quite educational to see things I don't normally. I'd go out on a limb and say most of the people I came in contact with were not Christian. I did often witness people drunk high and sometimes crazy. Really sad was when you'd see a mom drag a 5 year old in at 3 a.m. and they ran around the store crazy. But yea let Catcher bash the Christians.

The History of Christianity itself proves it is a failed moral system.
The evidence is right here on this thread.

Which Christian can contradict my claim that there is NOT ONE original idea from Jesus worth preserving? Can even one of you show me a moral truth from Jesus that was original to him and that would be worth preserving after Christianity has faded away? Surely if it weren't the failed moral system that we claim it is there must be something good in it mot stolen from older sources.

And if that is true, then Jesus was no god, and Christianity is of no value.

How about you, Dimwit? Care to step up and defend your pathetic god like a man, or will it be just tantruming?

You were asked to give it a rest once in a while after 250 plus days of coming in here and bashing the faith repeatedly. And that doesn't even get into the bigoted manner in which you have done it.

There is nothing new you are saying. There is nobody new you are saying it to. But that doesn't matter because you do it for you.

All that was required for peace was for you to do something different after 9 months of constant negativity and insults about a faith you no longer belong to and it's impact in a society that you no longer live in.

And considering you were indifferent to it until Topix, no reasonable person would consider your refusal to do so as anything less than selfish, obnoxious, and ridiculous.

People shouldn't have to be subjected to your opinion about there faith a dozen times a day for 9 months. Give it a rest bug mouth. You aren't that important.

And your attempt at damage control and spin are as transparent as they are laughable. You don't give a damn about this room or the people in it or the people reading it or the people not posting because of you. You care about yourself and a few yes-men
