I throw my hat in that ring as well. I find the abuse and ignorance of the historical and anthropological sciences to be degrading.
Then there is that "education is a joke" attitude of the willfully ignorant that is an insult to all mankind.
Well said.

Yes. That is why PA banned the practice in schools in 2005.
The world is slowly becoming civilized. You bronze-agers are being left behind. Thank God!
I see. How do you explain Richard Darkins giving a pass to pedophilia? I'm guess as outspoken as he is concerning Christians you would call him civilized. I'm that's it I want no part of it.

no - but you are.
case in point - your motto "RIP Celibacy"
you stupidly mock the idea of sexual discretion, but think of how many broken relationships, unwanted children and abortions could have been avoided by 'just saying "no"'- dummy!
She doesn't have those issues. She explained to all of us here that she purposefully became celibate to focus on the self.

Not only are you jumping to conclusions, idiot, you're writing to a lesbian.

Second, moron, you're ignoring all the possible contraceptives we have - and, worse, ignoring human behavior. Celibacy,as a political doctrine, as tied to aid programs, does not work. It's worthless and increases teen pregnancy rates, STDs and deaths to HIV/AIDS.

Now apologize to River for your unkind, thoughtless and untrue remarks.

I am glad that evil and stupid people mock me. I can have no higher honor.
Well, Ben I am truthfully glad you truly do not know me on a personal bases.

Maybe. It would likely be very colorful, festive, and fun. Would there be a parade? Holidays like Day of the Dead and Mardi Gras are fun.

Who are included with Christ in this promise as being of Abraham's seed.
If ye be Christ's then are ye Abraham's seed and heirs according to the promise. Galatians 3:29
He is not a Jew (note; A child of Abraham) which is one outwardly but he is a Jew which is one inwardly whose praise is not of men but of God.
Romans 2:28&29
They are not all Israel, which are of Israel; neither because they are (note Literal) seed of Abraham, are they all children but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.
Romans 9:6-8
Here then is the key that unlocks not merely one but many otherwise mysterious passages of the Sacred Scriptures. The gathering of Israel of their own land is not a gathering of Abraham's literal descendants to Old Jerusalem in unbelief but a gathering in faith of the spiritual see to the New Jerusalem the city which Abraham looked whose builder and maker is God.(See Hebrews 11:8-10).
good stuff sis! we gotta take and run with it by faith and we'll blow the doors off the world!

That's what I've seen from you. You are polite to those that are polite to you. When they attack you personally for a sincerely held opinion about an idea, you might retaliate. And when you do, you are called elitist.
Thank you - and thank you for your earlier comments.

They can call me whatever names they want - elitist, coming from them, is a kind of admiration out of insecurity. A compliment based on their inability to defend their poor logical positions.:)

The ignorance here is terrible. I've only seen worse among 9/11 conspiracy theorists, though they probably have more stupidity going as well.

Worse, the self reflexivity is poor. I don't see this one ever getting better, to be honest.

I have been thinking about this...asking myself...when did Christianity become an "issue" for me. This is what I think...
After leaving the faith...to be honest...I only thought about it from time to time and those thoughts were in returning to the faith. It wasn't until after I came to Topix that I looked at it differently.
Before Topix...no Christian had ever called me a "heathen"...told me that I was "going to burn"...no one had used the term "Angel of Darkness" to describe me...nor called me a child of satan. They might have thought it...but no one said it to my face.
Steve...I never experienced what I have since coming to Topix.
When Bossdrop used the term "dog vomit" with me...I had to go look it up...I didn't know the Bible used that term in referring to those that left the faith. I even had to double check...did the Bible call me a heathen. All of those things were never a part of the faith that I practiced...I never used those terms to describe anyone. I never threatened anyone with hell.
Bossdrop once said God hated...I didn't believe him...I checked...he was right...I found...God did hate.
The list goes on...
I saw a side of Christianity on Topix that I had never seen before. Maybe I didn't see it because I didn't look for it.
I grew up under a very different set of guidelines than what I see in Christianity today. At times I just can not wrap my brain around it. I was taught that Christians don't drink...they don't curse...they don't throw sexual innuendos around...they don't degrade their "neighbor"...etc...e tc.
OYE and I shared some about our backgrounds once...they were very similar. I think that is why we understood each other.
So yes...I would say that participating in Topix changed my perception. I came here to this site to understand...and hopefully make others understand my side. It just didn't work out...
Most of my Bible study that I have done in the last few years has been based on things that I have read here...I needed to find out for myself...is that really what the Bible says.
bottom line Annie - your 'faith'(or lack thereof) shouldn't come from topix, but it should be rooted and grounded on what Jesus accomplished for you on the Cross!:)

Jesus is still the core of the holiday.
That depends on the individual. I don't see a lot of Jesus left in the holiday.

Look at the homes in your neighborhood this Christmas season and see how many have anything Christian in their lawn or home decorations. You'll see more elves than Magi.

Then listen to the Christmas carols. For every Jesus song (Silent Night, O Little Town of Bethlehem) you'll hear a dozen Ice Giant songs (Jingle Bells, Frosty the Snowman, Deck the Halls, Santa Claus Is Coming To Town, Grandma Got Run Over By A Reindeer. etc.)

The simple fact is that America, like Europe before it, is losing its religion. The signs are everywhere. For example, I saw an early episode of The Office last night. The staff was in the parking lot during an office fire. They were playing Desert Island, and were asked to name three books that they would want with them if stranded. Angela said the bible, and people looked at each other knowingly, smirking.

Then they were playing Who Would You Do, and one of the warehouse guys said "That tight-assed, blonde, Christian chick" - Angela - who was standing right there but out of view.

There's just no respect for Christianity in the culture, especially amongst the young, which is mirrored in the media. The bible was laughed at, as was the Christian prude.

When was the last time a religious figure was shown in a positive light in a movie or TV show? Agnes of God? Priests and religious people are generally shown as either hypocrites or out of touch.

It doesn't matter if you are or aren't. It might matter why you were pretending, though - if you were doing so to hurt transgendered people, that would be wrong. If you were doing so out of sincere desire to learn more about them or to become one, no worries.
"no worries"

LOL - i'm worried about offending sodomites about as much as they are worried about offending CHRISTians - LOL!!!
