Why shouldn't she? You're pretty quick to call others (intellectually) dishonest based on your interpretation of what they wrote, what it meant, what the author knew, and the motivation and morals of the writer. You did it to Hiding a day or two ago, and you did it to me just before that.
In my case, you claimed that "By chopping my post in half, you changed it's meaning and intent. That [i]s intellectual dishonesty"
http://www.topix.com/forum/topstories/T0N0LOR...
I responded, "Making that claim is not enough. You need to demonstrate it. You need to post your full comment, and beside it, my truncated version, and explain how my editing changed your meaning in some significant way," and you ignored the challenge.
How shall I word my assessment of that? Shall I give you the benefit of the doubt that your intentions may have been pure but that you just made a mistake? To somebody else, maybe.
But to the guy who so blithely used the word "dishonest," I prefer to call you a liar - dishonest. I'm going to assume that I know what you knew - that your claim was inaccurate - and what your motives were - to deliberately deceive. Why would I give you any more benefit of the doubt than you gave me?
As I've indicated to you before < http://www.topix.com/forum/topstories/T0N0LOR... > , this is "why I treat you so shabbily" as I am now.
Now, now, IANS, he's just uneducated and forgetful, makes irrational arguments, off the cuff sexist and racist statements, dismisses education and science at a whim, employs intellectually dishonest techniques of arguing (red herrings, straw man arguments) and engages in distraction through name calling, holds faith based "knowledge" to be of the utmost importance provided it follows certain established dogmatic themes and simplifies complex political and economic realities into one, non-explanatory word, that being 'satan.'

And he sometimes understands when he's mistaken and apologizes. So quick to learn!

This time next year, professor of sociological and contemporary pop culture studies. Trust me.

You're giving him more than he gave you, me, Noam Chomsky or Amanda Marcotte. He maligned us all. This thread is full of such people. As you probably know, I don't think such calumny should be accepted without a little gentle correction.
I'm not him. I never will be. I can't be like that.

Very good.
Of course, in the eyes of these Christians, that is our crime: daring to criticize their church. Chomsky becomes the traitorous America hater, and we are the blasphemous god haters in the service of Satan. It's hive ethics.
It's worse, I think. Hives function via logical rules. You can turn hive behavior into math, and the math makes perfect sense - it's just frightening when you aren't thinking in terms of math.

This hive, it isn't functioning according to logic. It's mere defense of faith based belief system. Faith is very, very fragile. It disintegrates when exposed to logic. It has to be protected, guarded against, defended with all possible might - for, what else would make secure the image of the all powerful deity?

Certainly not the deity itself! For it is nothing but a personal image. Fragile and beset with reality on all sides, it must be defended.

The quick denunciation is one way to protect the sacred "this is what I believe with all my heart and if you challenge it, I will explode!" sentiment. They don't want growth, they want arrogant assurance.

It's arrogant because they want to believe they are the only persons. Chomsky talks of how American power abuses Central America - how it violated the homes and people of Nicaragua. RiversideRedneck calls him a traitor so he doesn't have to learn that his political and military leaders - people in RR's eyes - could cause such incredible human suffering to ... other humans. As long as RR doesn't have to know, Central America is not home to people capable of suffering, but nonpersons who can't do naught but fail to achieve, fail to be like America.

Chomsky must be declared a traitor so RR doesn't have to hear that Central Americans are people.

The funny thing is, if Chomsky was a traitor, he wouldn't be so worried about identifying the very real abuses of American power. He'd be quiet about that and only share his findings with foreign nations. Or he'd only attack foreign nations - though this answer takes a bit more thought :)

Arrest the foreigner!
Just kidding.
That's a tell there. An American says batting .333. Batting averages are always three digits unless you're "batting a thousand," meaning perfect (batting average listed as 1.000).
Did you see Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds?" It's set in WWII. A man trying to pass as a German orders three glasses using the wrong fingers and exposes himself as an enemy agent.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v =-xnB57UYBkQXX
And as usual, there's a word for it that you might already know: shibboleth - "a word, sound, or custom that a person unfamiliar with its significance may not pronounce or perform correctly relative to those who are familiar with it. It is used to identify foreigners or those who do not belong to a particular class or group of people" (wiki)
hahaha! Yes, I admit it! I know nothing about baseball and am a foreigner to every country I visit. Sometimes, while indulging, I wonder how I became a transnational. Oh, well.

That's a great word - no, never heard of it. Sums up us/them very nicely :)

Thanks!

Oh! Not that "valuable."

And...why the word "value"??? That's pretty condescending, as if people are things.
He promised them also that when they are tried before the rulers of the synagogue that God would give them words to say.
Woops! Kind of lied about that, then, didn't Jesus.

You believe some pretty screwed up stuff, Lil.

I think you're upset that your "god" is being attacked. For me, that's kind of funny. It means that you know your "god" needs defending.
And it would only need defending if it wasn't real.
No don't ASSume, a forte of yours. I like to respond to unsavory folk in kind. You like the other atheists never seem look at the odiousness of your friends posts.

It's nice that you're increasing your vocabulary through liberal use of the thesaurus. However, you need to focus on punctuation now. The above doesn't make sense, and the fault lies with your punctuation.
Im not schooled and never will be, Hopefully a trained person like you is smart enough to get the true import of what a person is saying not just what you feel like interpreting.
